Abstract

An impropriate use of antibiotics leads to bacterial resistance problems and side effects. To minimize resistance and adverse side effects, the faloak plant (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br.) has the potential to be used as antibacterial agents. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of faloak bark extract (Sterculia qudrifida R.Br.) against the growth of Salmonella typhi bacteria. This study used a static group comparison research method (Static Group Comparison), namely by measurement (observation) carried out after the treatment group received a program or intervention. According to the results of the research and discussion in this study, the following conclusions can be drawn. Extract of the bark of the faloak plant (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br.) with a concentration of 22.5%; 45%; 75%; and 100% has antibacterial effectiveness against the growth of Salmonella typhi bacteria. The stem bark extract of the faloak plant (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br.) is said to be most effective at inhibiting the growth of Salmonella typhi at a concentration of 100%.

Abstract

Cats are one of the many pets kept in Indonesia. Dipylidiasis is a disease that often occurs in cats caused by infection with the Cestode worm Dipylidium caninum. The case study at the Rvet Bogor clinic aimed to find out Dipylidiosis cases as well as its diagnostic and treatment techniques. Medical record data for September 2020 to September 2021 showed fluctuations in Dipylidiosis cases in 35 cat patients at the Rvet Bogor clinic. The highest infection of Dipylidium caninum in cats occurred during the rainy season from November 2020 to March 2021. The lowest disease of D. caninum in cats happened in the dry season in August 2021 and September 2021. The patient is a cat named Nuna with a lethargy condition and of soft stools and a there is a gravid proglottid on her perianal. Groups of D.caninum eggs were seen around the gravid proglottids found in the perianal area of Nuna cat patients. Drontal® anthelmintic was given to cats infected with D. caninum at the Rvet Bogor clinic.

Abstract

The effects of gastrointestinal parasties on feed intake and growth is well-established. The emphasis here is on raising awareness that parasites do have effects on body compositon and meat quality atrributes. Body composition refers to the acceptable balance of lean to fat ratio when animals were parasitised or when they were free of parasites. Rejection of carcases due to parasitism is also covered. It was concluded that parasitic infections at subclinical level lead to reduced quantity and impaired quality of meat indirectly by in protein and energy intake as well as through altering and diverting of protein availability for both body maintenance in the forms of establishing resilience to infection as well as repairing of tissues damaged by parasites at sites of predilection. Ineficiency in meat production and alterations to body composition due to nematode parasitism is very much associated with alterations in nutrient absorption and utilisation.

Abstract

Abstract

The trial had the objective to examine the safe level of Moringa meal used for 10 weeks old super kampong chickens. The super kampong chickens in the trial were distributed into 20 experimental pens (8 chickens/replication). The study was conducted under completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications. The treatments were as follows: P0 (control), P1 (5% MLM), P2 (7.5% MLM), and P3 (10% MLM). The statistical analysis revealed that the treatment considerably influenced the diet intake (DI), body weight gain (BWG), as well as feed per gain (FPG). The use of Moringa powder produced better bird’s performance than those allotted in basal diets. In conclusion, 1) the safe inclusion level of Moringa powder in a balance nutrient diet was up to 10% 2) the addition of Moringa increased the palatability of the diets, leading to the improvement of DI, BWG and FPG.

Abstract

Honey is a product of animal origin with a low water composition but rich in sugar content (fructose and glucose) which is produced through the fermentation process in honey bee hives. This study aims to look at the quantification of microorganisms and the physicochemical quality of local honey which is traded in TTS (South Central Timor) Regency. The testing technique was carried out using the TPC test for total bacterial contamination and total mold and yeast contamination, testing the physical properties of honey using heating and organoleptic testing, and testing the chemical properties of honey which included testing water content, sugar content and pH. The test was carried out on 8 honey samples taken from 3 honey-producing villages in TTS Regency, namely Loli Village, Tobaki Village, and Nenas Village. The results of the total bacteria, mold and yeast test showed that the average bacterial contamination in honey was 7.24×105 and the average mold and yeast contamination was 30.31×105, where these results exceeded the contamination limit according to SNI No.7388:2009, namely the total contamination. bacteria <5×103 colonies/g and total mold and yeast contamination <1×101 colony/g. The physico-chemical properties test was carried out to find that the physical properties of honey were not in accordance with the SNI No.01-3545-2013 and SNI No.8664:2018.

Abstract

Yogurt is a fermented milk product made with the help of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB). Goat milk yogurt with the addition of red rice bran flour contains high antioxidants, making it very beneficial for health. This study aims to evaluate the effect of storage duration on the organoleptic physical characteristics, pH value, and contamination by Coliform and Salmonella spp. in goat milk yogurt with the addition of red rice bran flour. The study used 20 samples divided into five treatment groups based on storage duration (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks) at 4 ℃, with four repetitions. Each week, organoleptic physical characteristics were tested hedonically and hedonic quality assessed by 20 semi-trained panellists, pH measured with a digital pH meter, Coliform contamination tested using the Most Probable Number (MPN) method, and Salmonella spp. contamination tested using SSA media followed by TSIA media. Data analysis for organoleptic physical characteristics was conducted using the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Mann-Whitney test. Data analysis for pH and Coliform contamination was conducted using one-way ANOVA followed by the Tukey test. Data analysis for Salmonella spp. contamination was done descriptively. The results showed that the storage duration significantly affected the physical characteristics of appearance, taste, and aroma (p<0.05) but did not significantly affect colour (p>0.05). There were very significant differences in pH values and Coliform contamination (p<0.01), whereas Salmonella spp. contamination was not affected by the storage duration. The conclusion of this study is that goat milk yogurt with the addition of red rice bran flour should be consumed within three weeks based on organoleptic physical characteristics, pH value, and levels of Coliform and Salmonella spp. contamination.
