Abstract

Elementary school age, ranging from 7-12 years, according to Piaget's development theory, is in the concrete operational phase. This phase is the initial stage where a person is able to develop the ability to think logically about an object that is concrete or real. At this phase, children who are at elementary school age are not yet fully able to understand abstract concepts. It is necessary to have the help of teaching aids/learning media to help connect reality and something abstract so that students can present real concepts from something abstract. For this reason, it is necessary for a prospective teacher to have the ability to develop illustrated stories as one of the media that can be used for learning Indonesian. This study was conducted to determine the ability of UPR PGSD students in developing illustrated children's stories. This study is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. The subjects of observation were students of the PGSD Study Program Class C Class 2022. Data were obtained by conducting observations and documentation. The results of the study showed that most students already had good abilities in developing illustrated children's stories, although some improvements needed to achieve better results as seen from several indicators, such as creativity and originality, quality of language use, visuals and illustrations, structure and storyline, character development, and messages and moral values.

Abstract

This study explores audience interpretations of the television program "Indonesia Punya Cerita" on Trans TV in relation to issues of Indonesian identity in television broadcasts. "Indonesia Punya Cerita" was selected because it is one of the few television shows that not only caters to market demands but also promotes themes of nationalism and Indonesian identity. Additionally, the show’s unique packaging style distinguishes it from other similar programs. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews to collect data from informants with diverse socio-cultural backgrounds. The information gathered is analyzed using Stuart Hall’s Encoding-Decoding Reception Analysis Method, which categorizes audience interpretations into three positions: dominant hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional. In reception analysis, the audience is seen as part of Interpretative Communities that are actively engaged in perceiving messages and producing meanings, thereby being active Producers of Meaning. The results reveal diverse interpretations among informants; however, most informants adopt an oppositional stance in interpreting the program. Interestingly, the oppositional interpretations are not limited to informants with postgraduate educational backgrounds but also include those with secondary education. For the informants, "Indonesia Punya Cerita" is merely a television show without significant impact.

Abstract

Problem solving is a vital ability for students to be able to solve physics questions. Physics learning in the classroom needs to improve and develop this ability in students. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the students' problem-solving abilities as learning outcomes that have been obtained by high school students in Palangkaraya City. The research type is descriptive research with survey methods. The instrument used was a problem-solving ability test for the topic of work and energy. It was implemented on 155 12th grade in Palangkaraya. The results were analyzed quantitatively to identify the ability to describe problems, identify variables, plan solutions, implement plans, and check and evaluate the process. The results show that the students’ ability to describe problems and identify variables is better than other abilities. They can identify the variables in the questions and describe the physical situations. In addition, when the questions involve formula analysis and calculations, many students are unable to identify the equations that must be applied. They also have problems with their mathematical abilities to obtain the final answer. Educators need to concern these results in designing work and energy learning that can accommodate students' problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia aims to produce excellent students capable of contributing to the nation's progress. However, many schools still struggle to achieve an ideal level of learning, one of the contributing factors being the learning difficulties experienced by students. Chemistry is often perceived as a difficult subject due to its abstract and complex concepts. Determining reaction enthalpy changes in thermochemistry is one of the subtopics that students find challenging, leading to learning difficulties at the high school level. This issue is crucial to understand because chemistry concepts are interconnected, and difficulties in one area can affect the understanding of subsequent concepts. Hence, a study on students' difficulties in understanding the concept of determining reaction enthalpy changes is essential. This research was conducted on 125 Grade XI-MIPA students from two high schools in Palangka Raya. Data on students’ difficulties were collected using a diagnostic essay test instrument on the ability to determine reaction enthalpy changes (TKPPER), consisting of four questions. The aim of this research was to describe the difficulties experienced by Grade XI-MIPA students in the 2022/2023 academic year in understanding the concept of determining reaction enthalpy changes using diagnostic essay tests. The results showed that students experienced difficulties in understanding the concept of determining reaction enthalpy changes, with an average difficulty percentage of 37.44%. Several conceptual indicators focused on in the study exhibited varying levels of difficulty: Determining reaction enthalpy changes based on Hess's Law (65.67%), with students facing the following difficulties: (a) Assuming it is sufficient to sum the enthalpy change values (∆H) of three reactions provided in the question without considering the thermochemical equations of these reactions. (b) Believing that the value and sign of ∆H remain the same even when the thermochemical equation is reversed or the roles of reactants and products are switched. Determining reaction enthalpy changes based on bond energy (43.90%), with students experiencing the following issues: (a) Assuming that some compounds involved in the reactants and products are treated as single compounds in the chemical reaction. (b) Simply summing the bond energy values of each compound in the products and reactants without considering the number of bonds in each compound. Determining reaction enthalpy changes based on standard enthalpy change data (20.38%), with students facing the following challenges: (a) Assuming that the reactants in a chemical reaction are the products and vice versa. (b) Believing that it is sufficient to sum the bond energy values of each compound involved without accounting for the number of compounds (stoichiometric coefficients) in the reaction. Determining reaction enthalpy changes based on calorimeter experiment data (19.82%), where students struggled with identifying the values of the components in the formula, specifically determining the mass of water (m), specific heat capacity of water (c), and temperature change (∆T).

Abstract

This study aims to describe and summarize the results of analyses on students' difficulties in understanding the concepts of fundamental laws of chemistry. The research employs a systematic review method. The sample consists of theses related to students' difficulties in understanding the concepts of fundamental laws of chemistry. Data collection was carried out using documentation techniques by searching and gathering thesis documents, selecting theses for analysis, and determining the research data to be analyzed. The results of the study indicate that students' difficulties in understanding the concepts of fundamental laws of chemistry are as follows: (1) The findings from FY-22 reveal more student difficulties compared to YM-16 and NS-22. (2) In chemical reactions, students assume that the total mass of substances before the reaction changes or is not equal to the total mass of substances after the reaction. Students believe that determining the mass of reaction products is done by summing the mass ratios of the elements without considering the remaining substances, causing the mass ratios of the elements to vary. (3) Students think that the mass ratio of elements forming more than one compound is not fixed and is not a simple whole number. (4) Students assume that determining the volume ratio is based on indices and by summing the coefficients of the reaction equation. (5) Students believe that the forming elements in a reaction have the same volume ratio and that the volume of reacting gases is equal to the mass of the gases involved in the reaction. (6) These findings emphasize the need for targeted strategies to address these conceptual misconceptions in teaching fundamental laws of chemistry.

Abstract

Chemical bonding material has abstract concepts. This research was conducted because there are still many student difficulties in chemical bonding material, so a method of organizing data is needed to describe and summarize student difficulties. This research used systematic review method. The sample in this study used three theses about the difficulties of high school students in understanding the concept of chemical bonds. The data of this research is in the form of student difficulties from the answer patterns and instruments used in each thesis. Instrument analysis in the form of Basic Competencies (KD) and Operational Verbs (KKO) from each thesis while student difficulties are analyzed by comparing student answer patterns. The results of the research on student difficulties in understanding the concept of chemical bonding, namely (1) difficulties in the electron configuration sub-concept are that students cannot determine the stability of elements correctly. Students write the electron configuration out of order and write the atomic number according to the element, (2) the difficulty in the valence electron sub-concept is that students assume the determination of valence electrons based on the number of electrons in the last sub-shell, (3) the difficulty in the ionic bond sub-concept is the lack of student understanding of the properties of metallic and non-metallic elements, (4) the difficulty in the Lewis structure sub-concept is that students assume that by describing just one point it has become one Lewis bond electron pair. Students assume that all atoms that make up the molecule are considered elements, (5) the difficulty in the covalent bond sub-concept is that students assume that the coordination covalent bond is a bond that occurs due to the use of electrons together, and (6) the difficulty in the metal bond sub-concept is that students assume that it is formed between metal and non-metal elements.
