Abstract

Learning in elementary schools plays a central role in forming the foundational knowledge and skills of students. In this context, the subjects taught at the elementary level are key to developing a good understanding. One of the subjects in elementary school is Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (IPAS). To support the successful implementation of learning and the achievement of the learning objectives of IPAS as mentioned above, teachers must provide instructional media. By using media, it is expected that teachers can more easily convey material, and students can also receive lessons well and enjoyably, thus fostering their motivation to learn. This study aims to determine the feasibility of developing augmented reality (AR)-based interactive media in teaching the water cycle to fourth-grade students at SDN 10 Langkai and to assess the response of the fourth-grade students at SDN 10 Langkai to the development of AR-based interactive media for water cycle learning. The research uses the research and development (R&D) method. According to Borg & Gall (1983), as cited in Risal, Hakim, & Abdullah (2022:2), the R&D method is used to develop and validate an educational product. The development of the learning media in this research follows the ADDIE model. Based on the research results, the feasibility of the AR-based interactive media was rated at 86%, categorized as "Highly Feasible." The students responded positively to the development of the AR-based interactive media, showing great enthusiasm and active engagement in learning the water cycle. Therefore, the AR-based interactive media was deemed "Highly Feasible" and received positive feedback from the students.

Abstract

Understanding the concept of energy is a crucial aspect of science education, as it serves as the foundation for comprehending various natural phenomena and processes around us. However, the energy concept comprehension of Class VIII-A students at SMP Negeri 13 Palangka Raya remains low due to their lack of active participation during lessons and the unappealing media used in teaching. This low understanding results in poor learning outcomes. To address this issue, this study employs the discovery learning model supported by PhET Simulation media. The aim of this research is to improve learning outcomes on the topic of energy. The study was conducted in two cycles using Classroom Action Research (CAR). Each cycle involved four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected from 18 students in Class VIII-A of SMP Negeri 13 Palangka Raya during the 2023/2024 academic year and from colleagues. Data collection methods included teacher activity observation sheets and student learning outcome tests, which were then analyzed descriptively. The results showed an increase in the students' average scores from 87.06 in Cycle I to 87.22 in Cycle II, with an improvement in classical mastery from 82.35% to 83.33%. It can be concluded that the use of the discovery learning model supported by PhET Simulation media on the topic of energy successfully enhanced the learning outcomes of Class VIII-A students at SMP Negeri 13 Palangka Raya.

Abstract

Practicum is an effective method used in learning to improve skills and deepen chemical concepts and theories. However, the main obstacle in the chemistry practicum process is the procurement process regarding the limitations of the tools and materials needed. One innovative solution to overcome this challenge is to utilize Virtual Reality (VR) technology, which allows students to understand the material through interactive simulations. On the other hand, Central Kalimantan has a wealth of local wisdom that can be used as a means to associate chemical concepts with daily life. Through this research, a Virtual Reality Chemistry Laboratory (VRCL) was developed that integrates elements of local wisdom in Central Kalimantan. The research method used in this study is development research (R&D) with the ADDIE model, with the initial step of conducting analysis. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which VRCL can improve students' understanding of chemical concepts and strengthen the connection between science and local culture. The results of this study are expected to make an important contribution to the development of more contextual and relevant learning methods for students. The use of Virtual Reality Chemistry Laboratory combined with the local wisdom of Central Kalimantan's nature aims to improve the 4Cs (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity) skills of students in associating technology with local wisdom values. After going through the learning process using virtual reality media through VR headsets, students can practice the 4Cs skills in terms of focusing questions, observing, identifying assumptions, making conclusions, and determining actions.

Abstract

Understanding the concept of ionic and covalent compounds is a fundamental foundation in basic chemistry education, as these concepts underpin the structure, properties of compounds, and their applications in daily life. Misconceptions about ionic and covalent bonding are common and negatively impact students' ability to analyze compound properties, critical thinking skills, and scientific argumentation. On the other hand, Generation Z demonstrates weaknesses in deeply reflecting on conceptual errors, as evident in basic chemistry lab reports. Lab reports can reveal both the depth of understanding and the patterns of conceptual errors experienced by students. This study aims to analyze students' conceptual errors related to ionic and covalent compounds in Basic Chemistry I lab reports. The research employs a case study method with a qualitative descriptive approach. The researcher acts as an instrument to assess students' conceptual errors by discussing their lab reports. The findings reveal three conceptual errors in the sub-topic of melting point comparison and five conceptual errors in the sub-topic of solubility.

Abstract

Physics is one of the subjects that plays a role in developing analytical, critical, inductive, and deductive skills in problem-solving through a scientific approach. However, various studies reveal that this subject is less popular because many students perceive it as abstract, difficult to understand, and less relevant to everyday life, resulting in a low understanding of physics concepts. This study aims to explore students' perceptions of the implementation of research-based learning in the heat transfer material. The research subjects were 20 students enrolled in the Thermodynamics course of the Physics Education Study Program at FKIP, University of Palangka Raya. The instrument used was a perception questionnaire. The results showed that students had a positive perception of their learning experience using a research-based approach. Based on these findings, research-based learning can be considered an alternative strategy for more meaningful learning, especially in physics education.
