Abstract

Lift-net fishermen in Gampong Lhok Layeun, Leupung Sub-district, Aceh Besar District, still use mercury lamps which are energy-intensive, require high operational costs, and are less effective in attracting fish. This condition leads to low profits for fishermen. To address this problem, a community service program was conducted in the form of training and assistance in the development of underwater light emitting diode (LED) as an alternative technology that is more energy-efficient and effective. This activity aimed to enhance fishermen’s capacity in mastering appropriate technology and reducing fishing operational costs. The program was held on August 23–24, 2025, at the Layeun Village Office Hall, involving 15 fishermen, three lecturers, and three students from Universitas Syiah Kuala. The implementation method applied an applicative and participatory approach through several stages: preparation, training, hands-on practice, and evaluation. Participants received materials on the concept and advantages of underwater LED, followed by direct assistance in assembling the devices and conducting simple trials. The results showed an increase in fishermen’s understanding of the differences between lighting technologies as well as their ability to assemble underwater LED devices independently. Fishermen expressed their readiness to adopt this technology because it is more energy-efficient, reduces operational costs, and has the potential to increase fish catches. In conclusion, this program successfully improved fishermen’s knowledge and skills in utilizing underwater LED technology, which can serve as an alternative solution to enhance the welfare of coastal communities and support sustainable fisheries resource management.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period prone to mental and reproductive health challenges. Delod Peken Village, Tabanan, faces difficulties in empowering adolescent health cadres, low awareness of early detection of mental and reproductive disorders, and limited innovative products supporting healthy lifestyles. This community service program aimed to develop an active adolescent cadre community and enhance understanding of mental and reproductive health through digital technology-based interventions and the creation of innovative products. The program was implemented through the formation and training of adolescent cadres in collaboration with health professionals and village components, conducted via workshops, socialization sessions, and continuous mentoring. Results indicated improved knowledge and skills among cadres in the early detection of mental and reproductive health issues, enhanced quality of adolescent posyandu services, and the development of innovative healthy chocolate products made from natural ingredients, scientifically supporting mental and reproductive health and serving as a nutrition education medium. Production tools and materials were provided to ensure sustainability. This initiative also established a safe space for adolescents to mutually support one another while promoting healthy behaviors. Program sustainability is maintained through integration with UPTD Puskesmas Tabanan III and utilization of digital platforms for ongoing monitoring, cadre capacity building, and increased adolescent awareness of mental and reproductive health. This simple, practical, and replicable model can be adapted in other villages with local modifications and multi-sectoral support, offering broad benefits for adolescent and community health.

Abstract

Early treatment of burns using natural ingredients such as tembelekan leaves quickly and appropriately can accelerate the healing process and prevent more serious injuries. However, based on a common phenomenon in the community, there are still many inappropriate behaviors in providing first aid for burns. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge about the use of tembelekan leaves as first aid for burns. The methods used in this activity include socialization through counseling, which is then followed by a discussion session, questions and answers, and the distribution of questionnaires to measure the level of community satisfaction with this community service activity. The community service activity was carried out on July 26, 2025, with the main target community in the South Lolu Village area, especially RT 01. The results of the evaluation of community satisfaction with an average satisfaction level of 89.86%. Aspects assessed included the method of delivering materials used in the Community Partnership Program (PKM), the suitability of the program to community needs, improving community thinking skills, the usefulness of the program that can be applied in daily life, and the community's willingness to participate in similar activities again in the future. It can be concluded that the Community Partnership Program (PKM) activity is very beneficial for the people of South Lolu Village, especially in RT 01, because it is able to increase knowledge, skills, and active participation of the community in the initial treatment of burns by utilizing natural materials such as tembelekan leaves.

Abstract

Juwet leaves (Syzygium cumini L.) are plants with antioxidant content that can protect the body from free radicals that cause degenerative diseases. The community of RT 09, Lambara Village has access to juwet plants that grow naturally in the surrounding environment, but their level of knowledge and understanding of the benefits of juwet leaves as a source of natural antioxidants is still low. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of the community of RT 09, Lambara Village, Taweili District regarding the benefits of juwet leaves as a source of natural antioxidants for health. Education was carried out through a lecture method with posters and brochures, followed by a question and answer session. Evaluation of the program's success was carried out by providing a pre-test before education and a post-test after education to 45 participants from the RT 09 community using a 4-question instrument related to knowledge about juwet leaves and antioxidants. The community service activity carried out on November 30, 2024, was attended by 45 participants and ran smoothly. The evaluation results showed a very significant increase in community knowledge. In the pre-test, the community's understanding level ranged from 32-44% for the four aspects measured (knowledge of the benefits of juwet leaves, the definition of antioxidants, the importance of antioxidants, and dosage). After providing educational materials, post-test results showed an increase in understanding to 90-98%. The participants' enthusiasm was evident in their active participation in the question and answer session and their positive appreciation for the program. The educational program on the use of juwet leaves as an antioxidant succeeded in significantly increasing the knowledge of the community in RT 09, Lambara Village, as indicated by an increase in the understanding score from 32-44% (pre-test) to 90-98% (post-test).

Abstract

Prima Oryza Abadi, a small rice milling and sales business in Krandegan Village, Kebumen Regency, faces challenges in product quality and business legality that limit its competitiveness and business growth. The rice produced has a cloudy color, low cleanliness levels, and many broken grains, resulting in a selling price of only around IDR 11,000–13,000 per kg, far below the market potential of IDR 17,000/kg if quality were improved. In addition, the lack of business licenses, trademarks, and legal entities makes it difficult for partners to access capital, establish cooperation, and build consumer trust. The objective of this program is to increase business capacity and competitiveness through product quality improvement, operational efficiency, and strengthening of legality-based business management. The methods used include socialization, training in rice whitening machine technology, the application of technological innovations with a capacity of 150 kg/hour with a steam atomization system, air drying, and low-speed milling, as well as assistance in obtaining a Business Identification Number (NIB), PIRT Certificate, trademark at the National Intellectual Property Agency (DJKI), and the establishment of a legal entity (UD). The results show a significant improvement in rice quality, as seen in whiter color, better cleanliness, and fewer damaged or broken grains. The machine is capable of efficiently processing 150 kg of rice per hour without the use of chemicals, thus meeting food safety standards. Partners have successfully registered trademarks and obtained complete business legality, enabling direct sales to consumers and market expansion. Management assistance also improved financial management and digital marketing capabilities. Overall, the program successfully improved product quality, competitiveness, and business sustainability, while supporting 2 and 8 and strengthening the local economy.

Abstract

A socialization and support program related to business legality for MSME actors in Rimbo Panjang Village, Tambang District, Kampar Regency was held to increase the knowledge and skills of the community in managing Business Identification Numbers (NIB), Home Industry Food (PIRT), and Halal Certification. This activity was carried out due to the low awareness and knowledge of MSME actors regarding the importance of business legality, resulting in many local products lacking official permits and facing difficulties in competing in broader markets. Through participatory socialization and mentoring methods, 13 MSMEs successfully obtained NIBs, 2 MSMEs obtained PIRT distribution permits, and 8 MSMEs received halal certificates. These results indicate that the support provided has a positive impact on improving the legality, quality, and competitiveness of MSMEs. In addition to providing legal certainty, this program also expands market access, opens up investment opportunities, and increases consumer confidence in local products.

Abstract

A common problem encountered in densely populated residential areas is waste accumulation. The majority of this waste consists of organic and inorganic household refuse. While organic waste is polluting, it is biodegradable and decomposes relatively quickly. In contrast, inorganic waste—particularly plastics—requires an extensive period to decompose in the natural environment. Consequently, this community service program aims to recycle plastic waste so that it can be reused and even acquire economic value. The plastic material utilized is discarded single-use water gallon containers, which often accumulate and hold little to no resale value. The target participants of this program are the students (santri) of Pondok Pesantren Al-Ishlah in Bandarkidul Village, Kediri City. The method employed involves providing education and hands-on training in cultivating catfish (Clarias sp.) and water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) within a single reused gallon container which is known as Budikdamlon (aquaculture using gallon). The training also covers maintenance practices up to the harvest stage. As members of the younger generation, it is expected that the trained students will serve as agents of change—youth who not only possess intellectual capacity but also actively implement their knowledge in alignment with religious values.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in conjunction with the Community Service Program (KKN) of Universitas Nurul Huda students in Karang Melati Village, Semendawai Timur District, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency. The purpose was to empower the community through the establishment of family herbal gardens (TOGA) as an effort to raise awareness of preventive health and the utilization of home yards. The activity employed a participatory method involving village officials, youth organizations (Karang Taruna), and women’s groups (PKK). The initial stage consisted of socialization on the benefits of herbal plants for health and their economic potential, followed by collective planting of ginger, turmeric, and lemongrass in a designated village area. This planting served as both a symbolic action and an important momentum to foster collective awareness of utilizing local potential. The results showed strong community enthusiasm, indicated by the active involvement of 20 households and increased understanding of the benefits of TOGA. In conclusion, the establishment of family herbal gardens has strengthened mutual cooperation, built health independence, and opened opportunities for developing a community-based herbal economy in Karang Melati Village.

Abstract

Kemajuan teknologi kecerdasan buatan (Artificial Intelligence [AI]) menghadirkan peluang besar bagi peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran, namun keterbatasan literasi digital guru di sekolah menengah menjadi hambatan adopsinya. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan memberdayakan guru SMA Negeri 2 Palu dalam pemanfaatan AI untuk pengembangan media ajar, evaluasi berbasis teknologi, dan penerapan etika penggunaannya. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan secara bertahap melalui persiapan, pelatihan berbasis praktik langsung, serta pendampingan daring pasca pelatihan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan kompetensi guru, dengan skor rata-rata pre-test 21,92 (kategori Cukup) meningkat menjadi 31,77 (kategori Sangat Baik), disertai peningkatan kemampuan teknis, pemahaman konseptual, dan kesadaran etis. Sebanyak 84,6% peserta mencapai kategori Sangat Baik pasca pelatihan, mengindikasikan efektivitas model pelatihan terstruktur yang dikombinasikan dengan pendampingan. Guru melaporkan peningkatan kepercayaan diri, kemampuan memanfaatkan empat platform AI, serta strategi mitigasi risiko seperti pencegahan plagiarisme dan pengurangan ketergantungan siswa. Keberhasilan ini diperkuat oleh dukungan kelembagaan sekolah dan pertukaran ide lintas mata pelajaran. Kegiatan ini menyimpulkan bahwa pelatihan berbasis praktik langsung dan pendampingan mampu meningkatkan kompetensi guru secara signifikan, dan model ini berpotensi direplikasi di sekolah lain dengan penyesuaian konteks lokal.

Abstract

Rumput laut merupakan salah satu sumber daya hayati laut yang memiliki nilai strategis sebagai bahan pangan, energi alternatif, serta agen ekologis dalam menjaga keseimbangan lingkungan. Potensi ini sangat relevan diperkenalkan kepada generasi muda, khususnya siswa SMA, untuk membangun kesadaran sains dan lingkungan berbasis sumber daya lokal yang melimpah di wilayah Maluku. Edukasi berbasis rumput laut diharapkan dapat memperkuat literasi ekologis sekaligus menumbuhkan sikap peduli lingkungan pada peserta didik. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa kelas XI IPA 1 SMA Negeri 3 Ambon mengenai manfaat dan peluang pemanfaatan rumput laut dalam mendukung ketahanan pangan, energi terbarukan, serta mitigasi perubahan iklim. Metode pelaksanaan dirancang secara edukatif melalui tahap persiapan, sosialisasi tatap muka, dan evaluasi dengan instrumen pre-test dan post-test. Materi disampaikan secara interaktif menggunakan media visual berupa slide, infografis, dan diskusi kontekstual. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman siswa terhadap definisi, fungsi ekologis, dan pemanfaatan aplikatif rumput laut. Sebelum kegiatan, mayoritas siswa hanya memahami rumput laut sebatas organisme laut yang bermanfaat secara umum, sedangkan setelah sosialisasi terjadi peningkatan pemahaman mendalam terkait fungsi ekologis sebagai penyerap karbon, penyaring logam berat, hingga potensi pengembangan bioenergi dan bioplastik. Siswa juga menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi, tercermin dari partisipasi aktif dalam diskusi dan refleksi akhir kegiatan. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi sains, kesadaran ekologis, serta wawasan siswa mengenai potensi rumput laut sebagai solusi pangan dan energi berkelanjutan.
