Abstract

Background. Achievement motivation plays a crucial role in the performance of martial arts athletes and should be closely monitored and assessed by coaches. However, the absence of a specific instrument to measure achievement motivation in Setia Hati Terate athletes has made it difficult for coaches to evaluate their athletes"™ motivational levels effectively. Objectives. This study is part of a broader evaluation aimed at testing the validity and reliability of an achievement motivation questionnaire specifically designed for adult Pencak Silat practitioners. Methods. The study involved 162 participants, comprising 79 male and 83 female martial artists. A research instrument is a tool used to gather data in order to address research problems or meet study objectives. If the collected data are not accurate (i.e., valid), any conclusions or decisions based on them will also be flawed. In this study, a closed-ended questionnaire consisting of 14 items was used. Data analysis was conducted using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). CFA conclusions are drawn based on various fit indices, including chi-square (χ ²), degrees of freedom (df), Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI), Goodness-of-Fit Index (GFI), Standardized Root Mean Residual (SRMR), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), factor loading (λ), Average Variance Extracted (AVE), and Cronbach's alpha. Results. According to the fit indices shown, the chi-square test yielded a p-value < 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between the factors. These indicators confirm the model"™s good fit. Further analysis of factor loadings and reliability metrics indicates that the instrument is both valid and reliable, supporting its use in assessing achievement motivation among adult martial arts practitioners. Conclusion. Achievement motivation is essential for martial artists striving to reach their full potential. Therefore, evaluating motivation levels should be an integral part of every stage in the training program, using instruments that are both valid and reliable. This study serves as a foundation for the ongoing development of assessment tools in the martial arts field.

Abstract

Background. Overweight and obesity represent significant health challenges in contemporary society, particularly during periods of stunted physical development and hormonal imbalance. These conditions increase the risk of serious health issues, including coronary heart disease and high blood pressure. Addressing these problems through non-invasive and sustainable approaches is crucial, particularly among women. Objectives. This study aims to design a physical nutrition program incorporating circuit training to promote weight loss in women. Specifically, it seeks to determine the program"™s impact on body weight, body mass index (BMI), and the circumferences of selected body parts. Methods. The research utilized a pre-test and post-test experimental design. A tailored physical and nutritional program was applied to the study participants, and measurements were taken for body weight, BMI, and morphological circumferences of specific body areas before and after the intervention. The differences between pre- and post-test results were analyzed statistically to assess the program's effectiveness. Results. The findings revealed statistically significant improvements in all measured variables in favor of the post-test. The program contributed to a marked reduction in body weight, BMI, and the circumferences of various body parts. The magnitude of the program"™s impact followed the order: BMI, body weight, and body circumferences. Conclusion The proposed physical and nutritional program demonstrated a positive effect on weight loss and body composition among women. It offers a practical, non-surgical alternative to weight management and highlights the importance of integrating exercise with nutrition to achieve optimal results. The study recommends adopting such integrated programs to enhance women's health and physical well-being.

Abstract

Background. Accuracy in serving contributes to an athlete's game consistency, making them more unpredictable for opponents. This not only affects the technical aspect but also the psychological one, as players with accurate serves are able to maintain mental pressure on the opponent, which can ultimately change the dynamics of the match. Objectives. This research evaluates service accuracy in beginner tennis athletes at PELTI Pangkep, an aspect often overlooked in sports literature. The research gap lies in the lack of studies concerning service accuracy, especially among beginner athletes. The research aims to measure tennis service accuracy. Methods. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a survey design conducted on January 23, 2024, involving 20 beginner tennis athletes aged 10"“18 years at PELTI Pangkep, selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used was the Hewitt Test to evaluate serves, performed with 3 trials and 10 scored serves. The data was then analyzed descriptively to calculate the mean, standard deviation, and distribution of the test results. Results. The results show that 1 athlete or 5% were in the high category, 5 athletes or 25% in the medium category, 4 athletes or 20% in the low category, and 10 athletes or 50% in the very low category, with an average score of 27.85. Conclusion. The conclusion of this research indicates that the service accuracy of beginner tennis athletes at PELTI Pangkep is still low, with most athletes in the very low category. This research contributes to the development of more effective training methods for beginner athletes.

Abstract

Background. Kabaddi is a sport that requires good physical abilities, especially in kabaddi, where the legs are very important for both defensive and offensive players. Variations in the type of foot arch can affect weight distribution, movement efficiency, and postural stability. Objectives. This study aims to analyze the influence of foot arch type (normal arch vs. high arch) on leg muscle explosive power and balance among Kabaddi athletes from Bali"™s provincial training camp. Methods. The research employs a quantitative comparative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consists of 25 athletes (12 males and 13 females) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Staheli Footprint Index (SFI) to assess foot shape, a vertical jump test for explosive power, and a stork stand test for balance. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality and the Mann-Whitney U test for group comparison. Results. Based on the statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test, this study concludes that there are no significant differences between normal arch and high arch foot types in terms of leg muscle explosive power (p = 0.969) and balance (p = 0.238) among Kabaddi athletes from Bali"™s provincial training camp. Conclusion. Further studies with larger and more comprehensive samples are recommended for more accurate results. These findings suggest that foot arch shape is not a primary determinant of Kabaddi athlete performance, and that other factors such as specific training and muscle strength may have a greater impact.
