Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to describe the process of making a solid steel string Dreadnought acoustic guitar produced by GuitarUs and describe the characteristics of this acoustic guitar based on three aspects of sound, playability and craftsmanship, which later this data can be used as a reference in choosing a good quality steel string acoustic guitar. Method: this research uses qualitative research with a grounded theory approach, namely valid, objective and reliable research results presented by researchers based on a combination of observational data extracted from several GuitarUs luthier partners with observational data obtained from GuitarUs. Results and Discussion: The results of the research obtained are that a good, quality Dreadnought solid steel string acoustic guitar must meet the requirements for the three aspects of sound, playability and craftsmanship, which requirements can be fulfilled if in carrying out the production process, a luthier must apply the knowledge of organology and steel string acoustic guitar acoustics.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Dalcroze eurhythmics method in violin teaching. Several cases indicate that many students have difficulty understanding the material in violin courses due to the ineffective teaching methods used by lecturers during the learning process. Method: This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, which intends to create descriptions of situations or events. Based on data sources, this type of research falls into the category of field research. Results and Discussion: The results and discussion indicate that the Dalcroze method proposed by Jacques Dalcroze requires good musical skills from the educator. Additionally, educators are required to be active and creative in delivering music lessons. As instructors, educators should not only introduce various musical instruments that can be used to play popular songs. Conclusion: Educators should be able to train students in solfeggio to enhance their auditory sensitivity through ear training, thus becoming skilled in reading notes, sight reading, and understanding the upward and downward movements and the length and shortness of each notation beat.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to reveal the process of designing a virtual instrument for Sundanese drumming, starting from practical studies to its realization as a market-ready design. The influence of the development of digital music technology has led to various inventions in the form of virtual instruments. As part of the preservation and development of local culture-based music, it is necessary to create virtual musical instruments, including Sundanese drums. The problem that occurs today is, that virtual instrument media for Sundanese drums that facilitate learning Sundanese drums is still very rare. Method: The method is practice-led research or practice-based study by playing real drumming instruments recorded using sampling media in the form of virtual instruments in the KONTAKT Library. Result and Discussion: The design process is carried out in three stages, namely. pre-production, production, and post-production. The results showed that the pre-production analysis of tepak kendang sunda highlighted four drum sounds, namely keplak, kentrung, kemprang, and gedug. The production stage shows that the results of the tepak kendang analysis were recorded and produced a variety of different selected drum sounds. Conclusion: The sound samples were arranged in a keymap system on the KONTAKT keyboard, based on a velocity range system, so that each sound type expression can function as a virtual instrument in a DAW (digital audio workstation) application via midi. Pre-production alpha testing results with two phases state that the virtual instrument of the Sundanese drum can run well. The implication of the product design of the virtual instrument of Sundanese drums is adequate and ready to be used as a means of creativity in digital music.

In this study, four popular music genres in Indonesia were used as analysis samples, namely; Islamic music, jazz music, rock music, and dangdut music. Method: The method used is a qualitative type, which acts to describe the data narrative read from the google trends tool which also functions as a data analysis instrument. Result and Discussion: The results of this research found; that (1) The search trend for dangdut was very popular in the duration of 2018-2023 beating the three other music genres, even the search trend for dangdut music dominated in almost every province in Indonesia (2) The search trend for jazz music and rock music competed fiercely in the period 2018-2023, overtaking each other in that period. (3) In terms of graphical appearance, the trend of Islamic music does not seem to increase much compared to the search trends of the other three music genres throughout the last five years (2018-2023) (4) Central Java and Lampung provinces always appear in the top five provinces in the search trends of Islamic music, jazz music, rock music, and dangdut genres. Conclusion: The conclusion obtained in this study is that the search trend for certain music genres is strongly influenced by the culture or group of people who have an attachment to it. The more the music genre can enter many groups of society, the more fans there will be and of course this will increase the search trend for the music genre on social media, as discussed in this study.

Abstract

Purpose: This article aims to explore the extent of the use of digital technology-based learning media in guitar lessons. Selecting the proper learning technique and considering how each component works might end in an effective learning process. The learning media component, for example, assists teachers in meeting the needs of their pupils and encourages active participation from all of them. The characteristics and aims of the student learning environment can be addressed in learning materials. Since the major in guitar lessons is a practical subject, effective learning results need the utilization of appropriate media. For this reason, educators use digital technology to enhance learning. Software, programs, websites, and social media are indications of digital technology media. The learning objectives for guitar strongly emphasize song repertoire, dance, and scale development. While learners cannot comprehend the score's sound, the song's rhythm and the guitar lick or pattern do not match the composer's intended interpretation, making learning to play the instrument by merely reading sheet music less than ideal. The qualitative method was applied in this study to examine the implementation of learning media based on the Guitar Pro program and the link between each variable, using descriptive narrative writing to illustrate the difficulties studied effectively. Result: The beneficial effects of using the Guitar Pro program as a learning media in electric guitar majors may be sensed in its ability to maximize learning processes and outcomes. Conclusion: This Guitar Pro application-based media can also be used in online learning, such that while showing guitar teaching content, the Guitar Pro app may help and guide students in understanding the material.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to develop a music learning application specifically designed for early childhood, utilizing smartphone technology in an educational context. The need for innovative and engaging learning methods is becoming increasingly important, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic has driven digital transformation in education. Methods: This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with a Design and Development Research approach. The main focus is on developing an app that educates children about the basics of music, including music notation, pulse, tempo, and note values. The app is designed to make it easier for teachers to deliver music learning materials and provide parents with educational tools to teach music to children at home. Results and Discussion: In its development, this application uses visual and audio elements, such as bright colors, images, voice over narration, and animation, to attract and maintain children's focus. Considering the limitations of teachers in using learning media and the prevalence of gadget use by children, this application is expected to be a more interactive and fun learning resource. Conclusion: This research contributes to the development of music learning media in early childhood and kindergarten schools, as well as being an alternative educational resource for parents in educating their children about music at home, particularly through the positive and educational use of gadgets.

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of two learning strategies, cooperative learning and drill and practice, in enhancing musical skills among students at SMP N 1 Kertek. A comparative study was conducted at SMP N 1 Kertek, where students participated in both strategies. Cooperative learning involved dividing students into small groups to collaboratively solve rhythmic problems, while drill and practice focused on independent practice using a recorder. Method: The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was gathered through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of evaluation documentation. Results and Discussion:The results indicated that both strategies significantly contributed to improving students' musical skills. Cooperative learning facilitated collaboration among students and enhanced conceptual understanding, while drill and practice effectively improved practical skills in playing musical instruments. The use of audio-visual media was also found to strengthen students' understanding of the learning material. Conclusion: the combination of cooperative learning and drill and practice, supported by audio-visual media, provided a comprehensive and engaging approach to music education at SMP N 1 Kertek. This approach not only enhanced students' musical skills but also fostered a dynamic and enjoyable learning environment. The implications of this study can serve as a guideline for developing more effective music education methods in other schools.
