Abstract

This study aims to examine elementary school teachers' perceptions of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Freedom to Learn Curriculum) reform and to explore the challenges encountered during its implementation. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving six teachers from SD Bahrul Ulum Surabaya and SDN Krembangan Selatan I Surabaya as informants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews covering six aspects, namely educational goals, learning materials, learning experiences, teaching strategies, implementation challenges, and assessment systems, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was maintained through member checking, peer debriefing, and confirmability. The findings show that teachers generally hold a positive perception of Kurikulum Merdeka, viewing it as flexible, student-centered, and oriented toward strengthening character alongside 21st-century competencies in line with the Pancasila Student Profile. Learning materials were considered simpler and more contextual, while project-based and differentiated learning strategies were reported to increase student engagement. However, teachers identified persistent obstacles, including limited facilities, heavy administrative workload, diverse student abilities, and parents' mindset that remains oriented toward numerical scores. The assessment system, comprising diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment, was perceived as providing a more comprehensive picture of student development.

Abstract

The learning process of Science and Social Studies (IPAS) in elementary schools still tends to be dominated by teacher explanations and exercises, resulting in limited opportunities for students to gain direct learning experiences, collaborate, reflect, and develop their social-emotional skills. This condition also affects students’ learning outcomes. This study aimed to improve the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in IPAS through the implementation of the Experiential Learning model integrated with Social Emotional Learning (SEL). This study employed Classroom Action Research consisting of three cycles, with each cycle involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 24 fourth-grade students at SDN 103 Kota Bengkulu, consisting of 11 male and 13 female students. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and observation sheets of teacher and student activities. The results showed an improvement in students’ learning outcomes after the implementation of the Experiential Learning model. In the first cycle, the average pre-test score was 34.16 and increased to 53.75 in the post-test, with 8 students achieving mastery. In the second cycle, the average pre-test score increased from 40 to 68.33 in the post-test, with 15 students achieving mastery. In the third cycle, the average pre-test score increased from 51 to 80.41 in the post-test, with 20 students achieving mastery. Thus, the implementation of Experiential Learning integrated with social-emotional learning provided meaningful learning experiences and improved students’ IPAS learning outcomes,

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has brought about tangible changes in learning practices within elementary schools and madrasah ibtidaiyah (Islamic elementary schools). Social media, initially used for communication and entertainment, is now being utilized to support the learning process. This study aims to examine the impact of social media use in education on students' academic achievement at State Elementary School 3 Kembangan and MI Ma’arif NU Metenggeng in Purbalingga Regency. The study highlights how students utilize social media in their learning activities and the resulting effects on academic outcomes. The findings indicate that when used constructively, social media can provide students with broader access to learning resources, boost motivation, and foster interaction and collaboration in the learning process. However, without proper management, social media usage has the potential to disrupt students' concentration. These findings underscore the crucial role of educators and schools in guiding the wise use of social media and instilling digital literacy from the elementary education level.

Abstract

Leadership shapes how student organizations manage members, distribute responsibilities, and maintain the continuity of their programs. However, leadership practices in religious student organizations have received limited attention from the perspectives of leaders, administrators, and members. This study aims to describe leadership characteristics in managing the Protestant Christian Student Activity Unit (UKMKP) at Universitas Negeri Medan. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Six informants were purposively selected, consisting of a chairperson, vice chairperson, two division administrators, and two active members, identified as I1 to I6. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews supported by organizational documentation concerning member distribution and practices related to decision-making, communication, task and authority distribution, supervision, motivation, problem-solving, evaluation, and relationships between leaders and members. The data were analyzed through data collection, coding, categorization, theme development, comparison across sources, and interpretation. The findings revealed four interconnected themes: participatory decision-making while allowing the chairperson to make direct decisions in emergency situations and budget-related matters; two-way communication that enables members to ask questions and influence decisions directly; delegation of authority to specific divisions accompanied by coordination and reporting; and personal support, dialogue-based conflict resolution, and joint evaluation after activities. Overall, leadership practices tend to combine directive and participatory approaches. Direct decisions and firm instructions are used in certain situations when the chairperson is responsible for maintaining continuity. These findings suggest that leadership is better understood as a participatory pattern that adapts to organizational needs, activity characteristics, and the level of responsibility of involved parties.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media use has led to an increase in the number of lawsuits related to language, particularly defamation. In such cases, the meaning of a post is often disputed, necessitating an objective linguistic analysis. This study aims to describe the role of forensic linguistics in proving criminal defamation on social media, as well as the challenges of utilizing linguists in Indonesia. The method used is a literature review employing a qualitative descriptive approach to books, journal articles, and legislation, including Law No. 1 of 2024 and Constitutional Court Decision No. 105/PUU-XXII/2024. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that forensic linguistics plays a role in (1) interpreting the meaning of utterances through semantic and pragmatic analysis, (2) distinguishing between statements of fact, opinion, and emotional expressions to assess elements that may defame a person’s honor or reputation, and (3) tracing the authorship of texts through idiolect analysis. Identified challenges include the lack of uniform methodological standards, the absence of a mechanism for expert qualification, limited data context, and the need to maintain expert independence. This study concludes that the involvement of linguists contributes to a more objective evidentiary process; however, linguistic conclusions remain merely an aid to judges and do not determine a person’s guilt or innocence.

Abstract

This study describes the construction of obligation and prohibition in the body of Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System (Articles 1–77) from the perspective of forensic linguistics. A descriptive qualitative method was used with documentation and note-taking techniques. The study found 37 data: 24 constructions of obligation and normative responsibility and 13 constructions of prohibition and sanction. Obligation is marked by wajib (12), harus (4), berkewajiban (6), and bertanggung jawab (2). Wajib is always followed by an active verb and is most often attached to the Government, whereas berkewajiban is attached only to non-governmental parties. Harus appears mostly in passive constructions, two of which do not state the obligated party. Explicit prohibition with dilarang occurs only in Article 21(2), while twelve criminal provisions in Articles 67–71 imply prohibition through the relation between the act and the sanction, eight of them by referring to other articles. The findings show that normative meaning is shaped by the choice of markers together with the subject, voice, clause structure, and cross-references between articles.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the differences in welfare between public and private teachers, which can impact work motivation and the quality of learning in schools. Teacher welfare is not only related to income but also encompasses benefits, social security, the work environment, and professional development opportunities. This study aims to analyze the welfare of public and private teachers in Riau, determine the role of educational management in teacher welfare, and analyze the differences in welfare between public and private teachers. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through interviews and literature review. The research informants consisted of public and private school teachers in Riau. The results show that public teachers tend to have more stable welfare because they receive a fixed salary, professional allowance, and social security from the government. Meanwhile, the welfare of private teachers is strongly influenced by the policies of the foundation or institution that oversees the school. Educational management plays a crucial role in supporting teacher welfare through school management, providing professional support, a comfortable work environment, and opportunities for teacher competency development. The differences in welfare between public and private teachers are evident in aspects of income, benefits, work facilities, and teacher employment status.

Abstract

Moringa oleifera leaves are widely used as traditional medicine due to their rich nutritional content and various bioactive compounds. This study aimed to identify the secondary metabolites present in Moringa oleifera leaves through phytochemical screening. The leaf samples were extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol as the solvent, followed by qualitative tests for alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Moringa oleifera leaves tested positive for alkaloids, indicated by the formation of a white precipitate with Mayer’s reagent and a reddish-orange precipitate with Dragendorff’s reagent. In contrast, flavonoid and saponin tests showed negative results, as evidenced by the absence of color change and stable foam formation, respectively. These findings suggest that Moringa oleifera leaves contain alkaloid compounds that may contribute to their biological activities and potential medicinal applications. Therefore, Moringa oleifera has promising potential as a natural source of bioactive compounds for health-related purposes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of errors made by fifth-grade students at SDN Kalierang 02 when solving whole-number word problems using Polya’s steps, and to identify the factors contributing to these errors. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving 16 fifth-grade students who completed an initial test, four of whom were selected as key informants through purposive sampling based on scores below the school’s minimum learning-achievement criterion, with the class teacher serving as a supporting informant. Data were collected through tests, semi-structured interviews, and observations, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model (data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing), with data validity ensured through technique and source triangulation. The results indicate that student errors occurred at every stage of Polya’s method, with patterns varying among informants: at the understanding-the-problem stage, errors ranged from incomplete information recall to an inability to identify given and required information; at the devising-a-plan stage, the most prominent error was the incorrect choice of arithmetic operation due to confusion in mapping the problem’s language to mathematical operations; at the carrying-out-the-plan stage, calculation errors occurred among nearly all informants even when their understanding and plans were accurate; and at the looking-back stage, none of the informants independently verified their answers. Factors contributing to these errors included difficulty comprehending problem information, linguistic misconceptions in operation selection, a tendency to rely on habitual solving strategies without analyzing the problem structure, and haste during calculation.
