Abstract

This study aims to analyze Generation Z students' perceptions of the verbal and digital communication styles of Generation X lecturers at the Muslim University of Indonesia. The study used a descriptive quantitative method involving 123 student respondents from non-exact study programs. The research procedure was carried out through several stages, namely, research administration, clustering of scientific fields, questionnaire validation, questionnaire distribution to respondents, and data analysis. The data analysis technique in this study used descriptive statistics. The analysis was carried out by calculating the mean, median, and mode values. The results showed that students gave a very positive perception of lecturers' verbal competence, especially in the aspects of language clarity and openness in two-way interactions. On the other hand, students perceived language formality and the use of jargon as less relevant, resulting in a perception gap. This study concluded that although the face-to-face competence of Generation X lecturers was very good, there was an urgency for lecturers to adapt technology-based communication strategies to create a more inclusive and effective academic climate for Generation Z students.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the increase in motivation to learn Indonesian using storyboards in grade IV at MIN 2 Sidoarjo. The method used is classroom action research with Kurt Lewin's approach, which is carried out in two parts, each involving planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects of this study were 29 students, and the data collection instruments used were tests, observations, and questionnaires. The research data were analyzed using quantitative and descriptive techniques. This study found that students were much more motivated and performed better in their studies than before. The number of students who passed increased from 41% before the study to 62% in the first part and then to 83% in the second part. Observations also showed that students were more engaged, enthusiastic, willing to ask questions, and dedicated to completing their work than before. Therefore, storyboards are a good new way to make students more enthusiastic and improve their learning of Indonesian in elementary school.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the PjBL model and Digital-Based Collaborative Learning on students' academic essay writing skills. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control-group design. The sample consisted of 75 Indonesian Language and Literature Education students divided into three groups: PjBL, digital collaboration, and control. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA and Bonferroni Post Hoc Tests. The results showed that both experimental models were significantly more effective than conventional learning (p<0.01; η²p=0.621). The digital collaborative group obtained the highest N-gain (0.76), followed by the PjBL (0.71) and control groups (0.43). However, the difference between the two experimental models was not statistically significant (p=0.214). Digital-based collaborative learning excelled in motivation and writing organization, whereas PjBL excelled in depth of analysis. This study recommends the integration of both models as a pedagogical innovation for academic essay writing in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of illocutional speech acts, functions, and pragmatic implications in essay articles on Mojok.co for the period September-November 2025. In this study, a pragmatic approach (as a theoretical approach) and a qualitative descriptive approach (as a methodological approach) are used. Data in the form of speech quotes selected from Mojok.co essays were collected using the free listening method and note-taking techniques to assess proficiency. The data were analyzed using a pragmatic matching method based Searle’s illocution classification and Leech’s illocution function. The results of the study show that there are five types of illocution, namely assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declaration, as well as four functions, namely competitive, convivive, collaborative, and conflictive. The study concludes that the illocution strategy is used to frame issues, direct readers’ judgment, and strengthen social criticism in digital discourse.

Abstract

Media discourse plays an important role in shaping public perception and influencing the way an issue is understood, including the issue of employment and labor migration. The Discourse-Historical Approach (DHA), a method of Critical Discourse Analysis, allows the relationship between texts, socio-political contexts, and policy history to be analyzed thoroughly so that the representation strategies used by the media can be revealed systematically. This study uses DHA to examine how Indonesia's national media represents Foreign Workers and how this representation has the potential to affect public perception. The research data consisted of 30 news articles published on six national online media portals (kumparan.com, mediaindonesia.com, kompas.com, detik.com, news.republika.com, and cnnindonesia.com) between 2018 and 2025. The analysis was carried out by identifying five main discourse strategies–nomination, prediction, argumentation, perspective, and intensification–to map the construction of the image of foreign workers in the news. The results of the study show that the media presents an ambivalent representation, where foreign workers are positioned as a threat to local employment opportunities and are associated with the issue of licensing maladministration, but are also presented as agents of knowledge transfer and of national development. These findings show that media framing is not neutral and is loaded with ideological interests that can strengthen both resistance and public acceptance of labor policies. This research contributes theoretically by enriching the study of Critical Discourse Analysis in Indonesia and emphasizing the relevance of DHA in understanding the relationship between media discourse and the formation of public opinion. Practically, the results of this research can be an input for the media to produce more balanced news and for policymakers to formulate public communication that is inclusive and sensitive to public perception.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of satirical language styles by each actor in the shows Main Hakim Sendiri and Bercanda Tapi Santai (BTS) using stylistic analysis. This study used a qualitative research type with a descriptive approach. The research data were taken from sentences, expressions, and words from the actors that have been transcribed in the shows Main Hakim Sendiri and Bercanda Tapi Santai (BTS). The data collection techniques used were observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Hubberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that there were seven data points on satirical language styles in the shows Main Hakim Sendiri and Bercanda Tapi Santai (BTS), which included four figures of speech, namely irony, cynicism, satire, and sarcasm, and no innuendo figures of speech were found. Significant differences were seen in the show Main Hakim Sendiri, where irony figures of speech were found without the use of harsh words, while Bercanda Tapi Santai did not find irony figures of speech but often used harsh curses in the form of sarcasm.

Abstract

This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of using visual media to improve the descriptive writing skills of fifth-grade students at Selahuni State Elementary School. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent control group design. Two groups were involved: an experimental class that received visual media treatment and a control class that learned using conventional methods. Data were collected through a writing test. The research instrument consisted of descriptive writing prompts. Data analysis was conducted by calculating pretest-posttest scores, gain scores, and t-tests to determine the significant differences between groups. The results showed a greater increase in descriptive writing skills in the experimental class than in the control class. Visual media has been proven to increase students' motivation, focus, and creativity in writing activities. Thus, visual media can be declared effective as a supporting tool for learning descriptive writing among elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of Place-Based Education on descriptive writing skills through the mediating role of Psycho-Indigenous, which includes emotional attachment to place and cultural perception. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group model within an explanatory sequential mixed methods framework. The study population comprised all ten-grade students at MAN 2 Padang, and a sample of 72 students was selected using cluster convenience sampling techniques and divided into an experimental group (36 students) and a control group (36 students). The research instruments included a descriptive writing test with an analytical rubric, a place attachment scale, a psycho-indigenous reflection instrument, and a semi-structured interview guide. Data were collected through a pretest, six-week intervention, posttest, and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test, independent-sample t-test, and multiple regression analysis to test mediation, whereas qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results showed that Place-Based Education significantly improved descriptive writing skills with a very large effect (Cohen's d = 1.64). Regression analysis proved that emotional attachment and cultural perception acted as partial mediators, with an increase in R² from 0.37 to 0.56. Qualitative findings revealed that direct experience with a place enriched sensory details, integrated cultural meanings, and encouraged the internalization of experiences before writing. This study concluded that Place-Based Education improved the quality of descriptive writing through the internalization of emotional and cultural spatial experiences.
