Abstract

This study aims to describe the results of writing review texts by eighth-grade students at SMPN 27 Makassar before and after using the metacognitive scaffolding learning strategy and to prove the effect of using the metacognitive scaffolding learning strategy on the results of writing review texts by eighth-grade students at SMPN 27 Makassar. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental research design (One Group Pretest-Posttest Design). Data were collected through review text writing tests before (pretest) and after (posttest) the use of the metacognitive scaffolding learning strategy. The data analysis used in this study was descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed that there was a significant difference between students' review writing learning outcomes before and after using the metacognitive scaffolding learning strategy. Data analysis showed that the pretest mean score was 59.69, while the posttest mean score was 85.38. The Wilcoxon test results showed that the significance value was < 0.001, which means it was less than 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an effect of using the metacognitive scaffolding learning strategy on the learning outcomes of writing review texts by students in class VIII of SMPN 27 Makassar.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discover the image of women constructed in the poem Tukhotibul Mar'ah Al-misriyah by Al-badiyah. The method used in this study is qualitative with data analysis techniques using hermeneutics to discover the meaning behind the poem Tukhotibul Mar'ah Al-misriyah by Al-badiyah. The data source for this study is the book Mahfudzat, published by Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor in Ponorogo 1416 H. The data in this study are verses from the poem Tukhotibul Mar'ah Al-misriyah by Al-badiyah that contain constructions of women. The theory used in this study is feminist literary criticism with Amina Wadud's theory. The results of the study show that the poem Tukhotibul Mar'ah Al-misriyah by Al-badiyah constructs women's clothing and manners, whereby women should not be excessive when in public and should dress simply and cleanly. This poem also represents that women who wear the veil may remove it when they are with their families. In addition, women who wear the hijab are constructed as symbols of beauty and purity. This poem constructs women as symbols of purity, beauty, and elegance in society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the dialect, idiolect, and register in Teddy Minahasa's speech using a forensic linguistic approach. William Labov's theory of language variation is used to identify an individual's geographical and social background through their language style. The method used is qualitative with data collection techniques based on observation, including free observation and note-taking techniques. The results show that Teddy Minahasa's dialect is similar to the Manado dialect, as seen in the omission of the vowel in the word ‘saya’ to “sa” and the pronunciation of the vowel /a/ which is more open. His idiolect is evident in his habit of using the word ‘ya’ at the beginning, middle, or end of a sentence as a marker of emphasis and validation of his statements. The register shows a semi-formal style, with a mixture of formal diction such as ‘bapak’ (sir) and ‘saya’ (I) and non-formal diction such as ‘ga’ (you), “kok” (why), and ‘suka-suka’ (as I like), indicating an adjustment to a more open communication context. The long, orderly, and complex sentence structure also reflects his background as a member of the police force.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the effectiveness of using a Smart Book as an alternative learning medium to assist students with reading difficulties at SMA Utama Widyalaya Astika Dharma. This study employed a qualitative method with data collected through observation and interviews. The findings revealed that the Smart Book improved students’ reading skills gradually through interactive features such as images, audio, and engaging quizzes. Moreover, the media enhanced students’ motivation and active participation during learning activities. However, some challenges were identified in navigation and user instructions, which need further improvement. Overall, the use of Smart Bookproved to be effective and suitable as an instructional medium for students with reading difficulties at the senior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the mens rea element in the statements made by perpetrators of defamation in alleged defamation cases. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a pragmatic forensic linguistic approach. The data sources for this study are statements and legal documents contained in the Investigation Report of alleged defamation cases that occurred in the jurisdiction of the North Toraja Resort Police. The main data consists of transcripts of statements from witnesses and reported parties that were officially documented by investigators. Data collection was carried out through investigations and interviews with investigators. Data analysis was conducted using a forensic linguistic model with an emphasis on speaker meaning reconstruction. The results of the study show that the statement ‘You have deceived the Palawa people, that's why you came here, you deceiver, liar, thief’ contains linguistic indicators in the form of negative evaluative diction, declarative sentence structure, public context, and repetition of statements that reflect intentional encoding. The conclusion of the study confirms that mens rea can be identified objectively through forensic linguistic analysis, so that language can be used as empirical evidence in proving legal intent in defamation cases.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Montessori method in addressing beginning reading difficulties among first-grade students at UPT SPF SD Negeri Bawakaraeng I, Makassar City, utilizing a quantitative approach with a pre xperimental research, specifically One Group Pretest-Postest Design, involving 80 students subject. Data were collected via a beginning reading ability test and and observation sheets and analyzed by using descriptive statistic and the nonparametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test to assess the significance of effectiveness. The findings indicates a clear increase in the mean score for beginning reading ability, rising from 59,80 in the pretest to 72,26 in the posttest. The implementation of the Montessori method also improved to the very good category. Furthermore, the inferential statistical analysis yielded a p-value of <0,001(less than α=0,05), demonstrating a significant difference in students’ beginning reading ability post-intervention. The study conclude that the Montessori method is effective in improving beginning reading ability and overcoming reading difficulties.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of intensive reading activities of HOTS-based exposition texts on students' critical thinking skills. This study used a quantitative approach with an experimental method. The design of this study was a true experimental design in the form of a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population was all students of MIN 1 Bogor Regency, and samples were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Therefore, 23 students were selected in the experimental class and 24 students in the control class. Data were collected through observation of learning activities and HOTS-based tests to measure critical thinking skills before and after the tests. The test instrument was tested for validity and reliability before use. Data were analyzed statistically through descriptive analysis, prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity), and hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the average posttest scores of the experimental class (83.78) and the control class (76.19). The results of the hypothesis test showed a significance value of 0.001 (<0.05), indicating that the application of intensive reading of HOTS-based exposition texts had a significant effect on improving students' critical thinking skills. These findings confirm that repeated reading and systematic text exploration effectively activate students' higher-order cognitive processes.

Abstract

customs in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative method with a literature review. The main source of data is the book Adat Istiadat Perkawinan dan Hukum Adat Daerah Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Timur (Marriage Customs and Local Customary Law in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency) by Effendi (2018), which contains documentation of traditional marriage Seloko. Data analysis was conducted using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory through the stages of signifier, signified, denotative meaning, and connotative meaning. The validity of the data was strengthened through source and technique triangulation by confirming with local customary institutions. The results of the study show that seloko in the traditional marriage procession contains various symbolic meanings related to responsibility, family honor, deliberation, ethics in household management, wisdom, solidarity, and respect for parents. Each stage of the tradition, from merisik to hari labuh, contains seloko that reinforces cultural messages and strengthens the identity of the Malay community. This study confirms that seloko is not merely an oral tradition but also a representation of local wisdom that is still relevant to the community’s social life.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze lexical and grammatical speech irregularities as indicators of cognitive stress in emergency calls made by child witnesses. Using a forensic linguistic approach with the main theory of Speech Disfluency. This study used a qualitative descriptive design. The main data source in this study is a video of an emergency call 119 by a child named Carlos who was in a threatening situation, uploaded to the TikTok application via the account @kmtscript on May 17, 2024. In addition, secondary data were obtained from foreign media reports about Carlos's family (7-Year-Old Hero Calls 911, Saves Family, 2010). Data were collected using the free listening technique with conversational involvement. Data analysis was carried out using the flow model by Miles and Huberman through three main stages: data reduction, data classification, and data interpretation. The results show the dominance of lexical irregularities in the form of filled pauses "um" which imply major delays and difficulty in word retrieval due to heavy cognitive load, as well as lexical revision. Grammatical irregularities manifest as false starts, phrase repetitions, and abandoned utterances resulting from syntactic planning failures. The study concluded that these disfluencies are not simply speech errors but rather valid evidence of psychological trauma and extreme cognitive load when processing memories under threat.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using audio-visual media in improving listening skills in aural texts among 10th grade students at SMK Ar-Rahmah, Cianjur. The method used was quantitative with a pre-experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest pattern. The data collection techniques included tests, observations, and questionnaires. The data analysis process in this study used N-Gain calculations to determine the extent of improvement in listening skills. In addition, a t-test (paired sample t-test) was used. The results showed that the use of audio-visual media was effective, resulting in an improvement in students' listening skills. This was evident from the test results, which showed an increase with an n-gain value of 80.12%, which was classified as high. Student activity during learning also showed excellent engagement, with a 90% percentage. In addition, student responses to learning through questionnaires obtained an average score of 91%, which means that students responded very positively to the use of audio-visual media in learning.
