Abstract

This study analyzes the short story “Cerita Calon Koruptor” by Galang Gelar Taqwallah as a literary diagnosis of the social pathology of corruption in Indonesia. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a sociological literary approach. The primary data is the text of the short story “Cerita Calon Koruptor,” included in the anthology Merah pada Melati, while the secondary data consists of relevant literature. The analysis technique used is close reading across three stages: text reading, coding, and interpretation. This study found three main findings: corruption is depicted as an aspiration that is inherited and normalized across generations; the crisis of honesty is manifested through moral inversion and horizontal political brutality; and rationalization functions as a psychological mechanism that perpetuates the cycle of corruption. These findings underscore the importance of integrating the social pathology framework, which has been more widely used in sociological studies, into Indonesian literary studies as a more comprehensive analytical perspective compared to partial satirical or sociological approaches, and highlight the potential of short stories on corruption as teaching materials to build critical awareness of the normalization of corrupt values.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of screen inferiority on students' effective reading rate (KEM) through a between-subjects experimental design involving 80 students. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, Welch’s t-test with Cohen's d effect size, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical regression to assess differences, relationships, and the unique contributions of motivation, metacognition, and cognitive load to KEM. The results showed that the paper-media group achieved a mean KEM of 174.51 words per minute, while the digital-media group obtained 154.20 words per minute with an effect size of Cohen's d = 0.267. Intrinsic reading motivation and metacognitive strategy were significantly positively correlated with KEM in both conditions, whereas extraneous cognitive load was negatively correlated, particularly in the digital-media condition. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that motivation and metacognition explained 18.3% of the variance in KEM beyond the influence of media type. These findings indicate that the screen inferiority effect is moderated by individuals’ metacognitive capacity and intrinsic motivation, rather than uniformly affecting all readers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the linguistic structure of the explanatory text in the Indonesian language book for Class VIII published by the Ministry of Education and Culture Revised Edition 2017. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. This research data is in the form of descriptions of words, sentences and paragraphs narrated after an in-depth analysis process. The data collection techniques were literature study and documentation study. In this study, the researcher used data analysis with stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the explanatory texts of Prince Diponegoro, Development of Bandung Regency, Energy Flow, and Fossil Formation completely fulfilled the three parts of the explanatory text structure consisting of general statements, sequence of events and reviews.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the problem-based learning model in writing report texts based on observations of class VIII students at Ahmad Dahlan Middle School, Jambi City. The research uses quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental type of research. Data collection techniques include tests, observation, and documentation. The subjects of this research were class VIII students at Ahmad Dahlan Middle School, Jambi City. The population in this study was in class VIII of Ahmad Dahlan Middle School, Jambi City, and there were four classes totaling 122 students. The sample in this study was class VIII A, consisting of 30 students, and class VIII B, consisting of 29 students. The research results show that the use of the problem-based learning model influences student learning outcomes in writing observation report texts. The ability to write student observation report text increases due to the use of a learning-based model. This was proven in the posttest, where the control class got an average score of 77.55. Meanwhile, the experimental class posttest was 84.96. In the control class posttest, the lowest score was 67, while the lowest score in the experimental class posttest was 80, and the highest score in the control class posttest was 89, which experienced an increase in the experimental class posttest, namely 92.

Abstract

Thisstudy investigated the impact of a GenAI-synthesia-based guided reading model and cultural content on students' reading ability, motivation, and perspectives. The research method used in this study was a quasi-experiment involving 200 high school students. The instruments used included textual and inferential reading assessments, a reading motivation assessment scale, texts containing local cultural content, and GenAI-Synthesia. This study also collected qualitative data through interviews with several participants. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-tests, chi-square tests, and qualitative analysis of interview results. The research findings indicate that the GenAI-synthesia-based guided reading model can improve reading ability, motivation, and positive perspectives. The integration of cognitive and practical activities in supporting reading skills contributes significantly to reading competence. Positive perspectives on the intervention were evident in its role in enriching cultural knowledge, encouraging the sharing of understanding and experiences, and improving life skills in the community. This study suggests that integrating technology with texts containing local cultural content can significantly improve reading ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of GenAI-Automatic Corrective Feedback (ACF) integration in collaborative writing based on metacognitive instruction on argumentative essay writing ability. The method used in the study was a quasi-experimental method involving 220 students divided into two groups. The experimental group received GenAI-Automatic Corrective Feedback (ACF) integration intervention with collaborative writing based on metacognitive instruction, while the control group used a genre-based writing approach. The instruments used included writing assessments covering lexical, accuracy, and fluency. Data analysis used included descriptive analysis, ANOVA, and regression analysis. The findings of the study showed that the GenAI-ACF intervention in collaborative writing based on metacognitive instruction was able to improve argumentative essay writing ability more significantly than the genre-based writing intervention. Improvement in argumentative essay writing ability was seen in several aspects, including lexical complexity (lexical density, lexical sophistication, and lexical variety), accuracy, and fluency. The components of metacognitive instruction that contributed most significantly to argumentative essay writing ability were the evaluation and declarative knowledge components. Thus, it can be concluded that the integration of GenAI-ACF in collaborative writing based on metacognitive instruction significantly contributes to the quality of argumentative essays. This study implies that the integration of technology use and metacognitive instruction in collaborative writing can optimize writing competence.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the reciprocal teaching model, based on peer feedback, on students' linguistic entrepreneurship ability. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control-group design. The sample consisted of 64 students from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at Universitas Wiralodra, divided into 32 students in the experimental class and 32 in the control class. Data were analysed using SPSS version 27, including descriptive statistics, a normality test, and a paired-samples t-test. Based on the t-test with a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05 at the 95% significance level, the mean posttest score in the experimental class was 86.06, while that in the control class was 77. The results indicate a significant increase in students' linguistic entrepreneurship ability in the experimental class compared to the control class. This model can be utilised as an alternative instructional strategy for language entrepreneurship courses. Thus, the reciprocal teaching model based on peer feedback has been shown to enhance students' linguistic entrepreneurship abilities.

Abstract

This study explores the lived experiences of language education students in adapting to digital literacy practices shaped by generative AI technologies. Using a descriptive phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving 26 participants selected through purposive sampling. Thematic analysis revealed six major themes: transformation of learning patterns, in which students shifted from conventional learning to more responsive AI-assisted learning; linguistic development, reflected in improved awareness of grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure; ethical confusion, marked by uncertainty about the boundary between legitimate assistance and academic misconduct; institutional attitudes, shown through inconsistent responses from lecturers and the university; creativity, where AI stimulated new ideas but also risked passive dependence; and students’ expectations for clearer ethical guidance and structured integration of AI in learning. These findings indicate that digital literacy in the generative AI era is not limited to technical skills, but also involves critical awareness, ethical reflection, and sensitivity to academic and sociocultural contexts. The study highlights the need for AI-integrated language education curricula that are critical, ethical, and reflective.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of violations of cooperative maxims in the Indonesian version of the film Miracle in Cell No. 7 by Hanung Bramantyo. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The data source for this study is the Indonesian version of the film Miracle in Cell No. 7, whereas the research data are utterances that contain violations of conversational maxims based on Grice's cooperative principle theory. Data were collected using observation and note-taking techniques, and data analysis employed reduction, classification, and interpretation techniques. The results of the study indicate violations of four maxims: the maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner, with a dominant tendency toward violations of the maxims of relevance and quality. These violations serve to build conflict, strengthen character development, and create dramatic effects within the plot.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the contribution of the two independent variables to students’ reading comprehension skills. The research method used was quantitative correlational research. The population in this study consisted of all eleventh-grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta, with a sample of 79 students selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through tests and non-test instruments. The data analysis techniques included prerequisite tests of analysis and multiple linear regression statistical tests to examine both partial and simultaneous contributions.The results of the study showed that there was a positive and significant simultaneous relationship between verbal linguistic intelligence and reading motivation with news text reading comprehension skills. The higher the students’ level of verbal linguistic intelligence and reading motivation, the better their ability to deeply understand the content of news texts. The conclusion of this study confirms that cognitive and affective factors play an important role in improving reading competence at the vocational high school level.
