Abstract

Menopause is a natural phase experienced by all women, marked by the cessation of menstruation and often accompanied by symptoms of estrogen decline. With the increasing life expectancy of women, most will spend significant years in the menopausal phase, facing various physical and psychological symptoms that disrupt their quality of life. Objective: This study aims to compare the effects of traditional massage with and without the combination of lemongrass aromatherapy on menopausal symptoms.: This is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest design with two comparison treatments on 40 women aged 40-60 years, divided into two groups. The first group received traditional massage with lemongrass oil and lemongrass aromatherapy, while the second group received traditional massage with lemongrass oil only. Measurements were taken before and one week after the intervention, using the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) to assess menopausal symptoms. Results: Menopausal symptom scores significantly decreased in both groups after the intervention. The aromatherapy massage group showed a decrease in the average symptom score from 14.80 to 5.60 (p=0.000), while the traditional massage group showed a decrease from 11.34 to 4.65 (p=0.000). The comparison between the two groups yielded a p-value of 0.197, indicating no significant difference in symptom score reduction, although the aromatherapy massage group experienced a greater decrease in menopausal symptoms than the massage-only group. There is no significant difference in the reduction of menopausal symptoms between the groups receiving massage with and without lemongrass aromatherapy; however, both interventions are equally effective in reducing menopausal symptoms. Further research is needed to increase the frequency of lemongrass aromatherapy massage.

Abstract

Emesis Gravidarum is nausea and vomiting experienced by pregnant women, especially in the first trimester. The prevalence of this condition reaches 73.1% in the first trimester and 47.1% in primigravida. WHO data from 2018 shows that 21.5% of pregnant women in the world experience emesis gravidarum at eight weeks of pregnancy. In Indonesia, the prevalence of nausea and vomiting increased from 5.31% in 2018 to 5.42% in 2019. Proper handling is important to prevent more serious conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum, which occurs in 31% of pregnant women in NTB Province. Ginger (Zingiber officinale) contains gingerol and shogaol, which relieve nausea and vomiting. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of ginger candy as an antiemetic in primiparous pregnant women in Reriu Hamlet, Bagik Payung Village, East Lombok. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design with 31 respondents. The results showed a significant decrease in the Rhodes Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (RINVR) score from 14.8 to 7.6 after two weeks of giving ginger candy. The Paired T-Test showed a significant difference with a p-value = 0.0001. Abstract

The increase in the number of COVID-19 cases could cause disruptions to the global supply chain of commercial kits for the extraction of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid so that the COVID-19 screening process has the potential to be hampered. Another alternative method that can be used is the heat-treatment (HT) method. This study aims to assess the quality of the results of the RT-qPCR examination for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 using the HT nucleic acid extraction method. The samples were nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs and then underwent nucleic acid extraction using the magnetic beads extraction (MBE) / commercial kit and the HT method on the same day (less than 6 hours). The nucleic acid extraction results from both methods were then amplified using the RT-qPCR technique, then compared and analyzed the results. The results showed that qualitatively there was a very significant difference in the interpretation of the results between the two nucleic acid extraction methods (McNemar test, p = 0; p < 0.01). Qualitative comparative analysis also showed that there were very significant differences in ct (cycle threshold) values in the SARS-CoV-2 genes detected between the two nucleic acid extraction methods (McNemar test, p = 0; p < 0.01). While the value of ct in human gene between the two methods of nucleic acid extraction qualitatively there was no significant difference (McNemar test, p = 1; p > 0.05). The use of HT method for extraction will be more effective on cells or microorganisms that have genetic material in the form of DNA than RNA. The HT method is not recommended for use in the diagnosis of COVID-19. The use of this method as a screening in moderate to severe symptomatic populations under conditions of limited extraction reagents may be considered. Keywords:  SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, Heat-Treatment Method, Nucleic Acid Extraction, RT-qPCR
