Abstract

This study delves into investigating the impact of social media utilization on enhancing TOEFL proficiency among medical students. In an era where digital platforms have revolutionized communication and learning, this study examines how integrating social media tools into language learning environments can contribute to a more engaging and relevant educational experience. The focus on medical students is particularly pertinent, given the critical role adequate English language proficiency plays in their future medical careers, where precise communication is essential. The researchers used a descriptive survey design because this study aimed to obtain detailed information about the use of Social Media (SM) in improving TOEFL proficiency from medical students' perspective. The study included 46 students, with 15 of them being men (32.61%) and 31 women (67.39%). Participants were asked to complete an electronic questionnaire distributed through their subject's WhatsApp group voluntarily. For medical students, social media platforms can be incredibly beneficial to enhance their TOEFL learning experience. These platforms offer a broader range of communication and interaction opportunities that can aid in improving English proficiency. Furthermore, utilizing social media can assist in integrating the language into daily life. The future research will be especially beneficial for students who are not majoring in English, as it will enable them to overcome their fears and improve their overall learning experience in English as a Foreign Language.

Abstract

Neuropsycholinguistics is a science that combines psychology, neurology and linguistics, and can be used to analyze language disorders, and is a combination of psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics. Language disorders in children occur due to brain development and are also due to the influence of learning language from other people and producing words that are sometimes pronounced in different ways. This research used a qualitative approach by collecting data through observation, interviews and recording on 3 students with language disorders at MIN 7 Tapanuli Tengah which were then analyzed using Neuropsycholinguistic theory by connecting it to the Coastal Languages of Sibolga- Tapanuli Tengah. Research found that the main cause of language disorders in 3 children could be identified through Neuropsycholinguistic theory, namely disrupted mental and brain development due to health conditions in the past which then had to be overcome through appropriate teaching methods and special attention to the child's psychological condition. The Coastal Languages of Sibolga- Tapanuli Tengah, which contains many words with changes, reductions and additions of phonemes from Indonesian, will disturb children with language disorders so they must receive special attention.

Abstract

The current era of industrial revolution demands critical, creative, communicative and collaborative thinking processes. These processes can be carried out through the learning process. Of the several demands of the 21st century, the thing that is most fundamental and requires cooperation between one individual and another is collaborative. Collaboration between teachers and students can be created through activities combined into the teacher advisor program. In line with this. This article will discuss the teacher advisor program as a basis for developing collaborative skills in schools. The method used is descriptive. The data sources in this research were obtained through literature reviews originating from expert opinions as well as several relevant articles related to the topic. Several results such as definitions, objectives, benefits regarding the teacher advisor program will later be discussed and concluded.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a PBL model-based LKPD on Indonesian language subjects in SDNI Pelita class IV. The method in this research is research and development using the ADDIE development model. Collecting research data using evaluation leaflets and test questions. This research phase focuses on the analysis phase for the development of PBL based LKPD to enhance the ability to think critically about the Indonesian language learning of 1 Pelita State Elementary School students. Consider some important points, including 1) Students struggle to analyze, evaluate, and interpret text readings. 2) Students find it challenging to make argumentative solutions from the wrong text; 3) Teachers need to use LKPD teaching materials for the learning process. The results of the literature analysis have been obtained that for the implementation of the PBL-based LKPD in implementation the study refers to the sixth step: 1) Preparation; 2) Observation; 3) Analysis of problems; 4) Formulation of a solution plan; 5) Presentation of results of work; 6) Reflection and evaluation. Critical thinking skills indicators in this study focus on text analysis, text argument evaluation, text interpretation, critical information in text and problem-solving.

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between teachers’ instructional practices and students’ performance in Social Studies in colleges of education, in North East, Nigeria. The study raised three objectives and answered three research questions. The descriptive survey and correlational research designs were adopted for the study. The population was made up of 5,735 Social Studies students and 39 Social Studies teachers in both federal and state colleges of Education in north-east geographical zone, Nigeria. systematic sampling technique was used to select sample for the study; the sample used was 16 social studies teachers and 351 students in the four colleges of education in north-east geographical zone, Nigeria. Two instruments were used which were social studies teachers instructional practices classroom observation checklist and Social Studies students performance result record. The validity of the three instruments was determined by five experts from Social Studies Education, Research, Measurement and Evaluation units from Faculty of Education, University of Jos. The reliability of the instruments was established using inter-rater methods of reliability which yielded reliability index of 0.874 for the teachers instructional practices classroom observation check list. The statistical tools used in answering research questions were mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that that lecture, discussion, and questioning teaching methods are mostly used by teachers in social studies. The inquiry method, problem-solving method, simulation method, dramatization, construction method, presentation, and concept mapping are teaching methods that are rarely used by teachers in social studies. It revealed that there is a significant relationship between the teaching methods, instructional materials, teachers' questioning techniques, social studies teachers' lesson presentations, teachers’ evaluation techniques and students’ performance in social studies. It further indicated that students' performance relative to teachers' instructional practices in state and federal colleges of education is not the same.

Abstract

Social networks are part of communication media. Instagram is a social network that has many users, its users range from children to the elderly. Social networks centered on photo and video platforms are currently experiencing extraordinary popularity, but it cannot be denied that different impacts can occur due to each person's reaction. As a social networking user, various impacts can arise, such as impolite language and violating the rules of politeness. The results of this analysis show that there is language impoliteness of internet users in the comments column of the @lambe_turah Instagram account regarding the news"Lulu Tobing is suing Bani Mulia for divorce again after reconciliation, now undergoing first mediation session"thus causing a violation of the principles of politeness proposed by Leech which include six maxims, namely the maxim of wisdom, the maxim of generosity, the maxim of appreciation, the maxim of politeness, the maxim of approval, and the maxim of sympathy.

Abstract

Official news relating to the state of Germany is published by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany in German, as in the news containing the German state's political issues posted on the Deutscher Bundestag's official website. Because the readers come from various countries including Indonesia and not all readers are proficient in understanding German texts, the use of Google Translate is an alternative solution to overcome these limitations. This study aimed to test the reliability of the GT translation machine based on Memsource's level of suitability. This study also analyzes and describes various forms of inaccuracies that appear in translating German-language political articles into Indonesian, so that GT users will pay more attention to matters related to the development of their usage performance. The data are eight articles on German political issues containing 338 sentences obtained from the official website of the state news website of Germany, namely the Deutscher Bundestag (https://www.bundestag.de). The results showed that the quality of GT translation is generally in the 2nd level of suitability category (85-95) which means that the translation results are almost the same as human translation but still need some editing from experts. It found that there are 237 lexico-semantic errors, and it dominates the types of errors found in the translation results. This implies that GT generally needs to improve in terms of determining the appropriate lexical properties to translate text from the Source Language into the Target Language, such as in choosing one word that best fits the meaning of the text from several available word translation options. The most common morpho-syntactic errors (75 errors) are errors in translating single morphemes that are translated with plural morphemes or vice versa.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the most important aspects of learning a second or foreign language. Anxiety is one of the affective factors that influence success in learning English, especially in speaking. The reason for  excessive fear or anxiety in speaking the English language are the fear of making mistakes, the fear of embarrassing oneself, the fear of being laughed, the fear of getting more question from other students, and the fear of standing in front of the class. This study discuss about the use of drama to reduce English speaking anxiety of informatics engineering students at UNIKS. The aim of this study is to find out how anxiety affects the speaking skills of informatics engineering students at UNIKS, and to observe how the drama is effectively solve the anxiety problem to improve the speaking skill of informatics engineering students at UNIKS. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.The results show that drama is effective in reducing the anxiety of the informatics engineering students at UNIKS in speaking English.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement in students' learning outcomes using e-modules and to examine whether there is a difference in the improvement between students who use e-modules and those who use printed modules. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a control group design. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted to measure the improvement in students' learning outcomes, represented by the N-Gain score. The results show that both learning media effectively enhanced students' learning outcomes, with the average N-Gain scores for both groups falling within the high category. There is a significant difference in the improvement of learning outcomes between the group using e-modules and the group using printed modules.

Abstract

This study explores key challenges in science education from a receptor-oriented perspective, analyzing the experiences of teachers, students, school administrators, policymakers, and community stakeholders. Findings reveal significant barriers, including inadequate resources, limited professional development for teachers, low student engagement, outdated curricula, and insufficient policy support. Teachers reported a lack of access to necessary resources and training in emerging science topics, which limits their ability to conduct hands-on, inquiry-based lessons. Students expressed a desire for more relevant, real-world applications in science, which are missing due to curriculum rigidity and emphasis on standardized testing. Furthermore, administrators identified funding constraints and digital illiteracy as obstacles to implementing modern science education. Community and industry involvement was identified as crucial yet underutilized, limiting students' exposure to STEM career pathways and practical science applications. The findings underscore the need for reform strategies that provide resource allocation, updated curricula, reduced testing pressures, digital literacy initiatives, and structured partnerships with industry. A receptor-oriented approach is recommended to tailor solutions for each group’s unique needs, ultimately supporting a more engaging, equitable, and future-focused science education system.
