Abstract

This study aims to determine the prevalence of the elongated styloid process (ESP) on panoramic radiographs in a Turkish subpopulation and to investigate the relationship between SP lengths and the age and gender of individuals. Digital panoramic radiographs of 1000 patients who applied to Necmettin Erbakan University, Faculty of Dentistry, Dentomaxillofacial Radiology Clinic for the first examination between January 2020 and January 2022 were obtained from the database and examined. Individuals were evaluated by dividing them into three groups according to their age SP lengths were measured on both sides, and those greater than 30 mm were contemplated elongated. The data were evaluated in the SPSS V.21 program. In 1000 evaluated patients, ESP of >30 mm was detected in 304 individuals. It was determined that SP length did not differ according to age groups, gender, and systemic disease (p<0.05). Panoramic radiographs are useful, economical, and easily reachable diagnostic equipment in the diagnosis of symptomatic or asymptomatic ESP. Furthermore, it would be more useful to evaluate the prevalence of ESP with larger sample groups and advanced imaging methods.

Abstract

Medical compliance is a key aspect in the management of multiple-modalities therapies, such as those found in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. Aspects such as healthcare accessibility, complications or secondary ailments, lifestyle, socioeconomic status, and academic status can affect a patient's compliance, thus their therapeutic outcomes. The Covid-19 pandemic brought various observable shifts toward these aspects which raises the need for further evaluation regarding type-2 diabetes mellitus therapy compliance during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study is a systematic review that uses secondary data gathered from articles published in Pubmed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar with publication dates ranging from January 2018 until October 2021. Using the PRISMA algorithm and JBI critical appraisal questionnaire, we selected 10 controlled studies that discussed therapy compliance of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus patients before the Covid-19 pandemic and 7 studies that discussed therapy compliance of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus during the Covid-19 pandemic. There was a notable difference between the therapy compliance profile of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus patients before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Pharmacotherapy compliance during the Covid-19 pandemic showed a moderate-high trend whereas the trend before the Covid-19 pandemic was moderate-low. Compliance of physical activity and diet modification related to Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus respectively showed a moderate-high and moderate-low trend during the Covid-19 pandemic, whereas the trend before Covid-19 pandemic was low. A notable shift was found between the therapy compliance profile of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus patients  before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Further meta-analysis study is required to measure the significance of this shift as well as their correlations. Additional studies are also required to isolate the factors that may contribute to this shift.

Abstract

Pneumonia, diarrhea, and other infectious diseases are some of the most common diseases found in children. Although preventable, the morbidity and mortality rate in children caused by these common diseases are relatively high, and the poor regions are disproportionally affected. Comprehensive health education for adults and parents can effectively prevent these common diseases, especially in remote areas. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education as community development program from the Gastroenterology Division of the Department of Child Health Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga on Mandangin Island public's knowledge about the most common diseases in children. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 61 subjects from Mandangin Island on 4th October 2022. The subjects were assessed on their characteristics and given a pre- and post-health education questionnaire to evaluate their knowledge. The questionnaire was composed of five questions with a minimum score of 0 and a maximum of 100. Results from the pre- and post-test questionnaires were compared using the Paired T-Test method and processed with SPSS; p <0.05 was considered significant. There was a significant increase in public knowledge about the most common diseases in children with a p-value of 0.002 (64.26±31.44; 76.9±22.63). These findings support the importance of health education in the public's knowledge of the most common diseases in children.

Abstract

The case of Covid-19 in Indonesia has a lot of issues due to the latest variant, namely the delta variant, which is very dangerous and easily transmitted. The highest number of hoaxes and lowest interest in reading among Indonesian people had made Indonesia at the second-lowest level of world literacy. These online education posters are one of the community's innovative educational media, as stated in program number 4 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Quality Education. This research described the effectiveness of educational posters as a media for Instagram users to understand the new variant of Covid-19. Educational posters are uploaded online, and the target audience is the general public through Instagram's feed and story features. They were then evaluated using quizzes in Instagram stories. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. As many as 407 Instagram social media users participated in this research. There were 336 participants (82.5%) with a score more than or equal to 71 (range of values 0-100), where they could answer a minimum of 5 questions correctly. This study showed that online education posters were considered effective in educating the majority of the community about the new variant of Covid-19 and its prevention.

Abstract

The diagnosis of a disease can significantly change the health behavior of a population, leading to a significant improvement in public health. This study observed how China's alcohol consumption changes in response to a diabetes diagnosis from a health check-up. The 1991–2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey was used in this study. A difference-in-difference with a fixed effect model was applied to the dataset. The survey's 2009 health check-up generated the treatment status, also known as the diabetes diagnosis status. The results showed that the diagnosis of diabetes decreased alcohol consumption (Beta = -0.032; 95% CI = -0.022, -0.011; P-value = 0.015). The effect was more prevalent and significant among men (Beta = -0.077; 95% CI = -0.122, -0.031; P-value = 0.001). The findings of this study showed that a health check-up to inform individuals of their diabetes status could alter alcohol consumption behavior in China. This implies that a health check-up policy in developing countries could lead to significant health improvements and reduce the costs associated with alcohol consumption.

Abstract

Breast cancer ranks first in terms of the number of cancers in Indonesia and is among the first contributors to cancer deaths. This is because 70% of the cases are detected at an advanced stage. After finding a lump in her breast, a patient does not necessarily see a doctor immediately. The cause of the problem is the lack of public knowledge about breast cancer. Therefore, prompt efforts are needed to solve this problem. Training for health workers, including midwives and nurses, in direct contact with the community regarding early detection and breast cancer therapy is essential. The hope is that midwives and nurses will become breast cancer health cadres through counseling, early detection, and treatment in the community. The results of this activity are increased knowledge among midwives and nurses about breast cancer, its early detection, and early treatment, which correlates with decreased delays in treatment

Abstract

Stunting is a linear growth disorder caused by malnutrition from chronic nutrient intake or recurrent chronic infectious diseases, shown by the standard deviation value (SD) unit z (Z-Score) height according to age: < -2 SD ≥ -3 SD. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used for this study. All mothers who visited posyandu in the vicinity of the Gunung Anyar Health Centre, Surabaya, Indonesia with infants aged 6 to 24 months comprised the study sample. Non-probability sampling was done using sequential sampling as the sampling technique. Cut-off points for univariate data analysis were used. Stunting and exclusive breastfeeding had an association with p=0.000. Stunting was significantly affected by exclusive breastfeeding. According to these findings, there was a lower incidence of stunting in children who were exclusively breastfed (2.0%) than in children who were not exclusively breastfed (30.6%). Babies who were not stunted are more prevalent (53.1%) than babies who were stunted (14.3%) for exclusive breastfeeding in the good category. In conclusion, exclusively breastfed children aged 6 to 24 months in Gunung Anyar Health Center scored well in good category. Exclusive breasfeeding has a significant impact on the incidence of stunting.

Abstract

Hypertension is the highest among non-communicable diseases in Indonesia and the world, with prevalence showing an increase yearly. One of the determinants is having health-risk behaviors such as low levels of physical activity and sleep quality. These risk factors also have a relationship with hypertension in rural areas. This study aims to find the relationship between physical activity, poor sleep quality, and the prevalence of hypertension in Sumberngepoh, Lawang, Malang, Indonesia. This was a case-control study involving a population of Sumberngepoh Village residents older than 18 years old. The assessment of physical activity was measured using the Indonesian Ministry of Health's PTM cohort study questionnaire. The sleep quality was measured using the IFLS-5 questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 27 with univariate analysis using the Chi-square test with a significance value of <0.05. If the expected value was <5, Fisher's exact test was used. logistic regression test was employed for the multivariate analysis. The level of physical activity was significantly related to hypertension (p<0.05). However, the sleep quality was not significantly related to hypertension (p>0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that the level of physical activity was significantly related to hypertension, with an odds ratio of moderate to strenuous physical activity of 0.134. The prevalence of hypertension was significantly related to the level of physical activity in the age group more than 18 years old in Sumberngepoh, Lawang, Malang, Indonesia.

Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problem that needs attention because of its risk to future generations. The causes of stunting are related to environmental factors such as sanitation and drinking water quality. Intervention efforts are carried out to improve sanitation and drinking water quality, which is regarded as a risk factor. This article reviewed literature relevant to the topic from Science Direct, Scopus, EBSCO (CINAHL, MEDLINE), and Proquest databases from 2020-2024 publications with the keywords Water Quality and Stunting, then analyzed using a synthesis matrix. The inclusion criteria for this study were articles in English with a correlational design and full text. The results of the journal review found six articles that stated that sanitation factors, especially the quality of drinking water, were the cause of the stunting problem. The quality of drinking water is related to bacterial contamination due to disasters (floods), risk factors for unhealthy behavior, and open toilets. Poor water quality causes infection, which indirectly affects other factors that affect linear growth (weight and height), which are indicators of stunting. Interventions reduce the prevalence of stunting by improving sanitation, especially the quality of proper drinking water, and improving clean living behavior in the community.
