Abstract

In recent years, many elementary schools/ Sekolah Dasar (SD) and Islamic primary schools/Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) have depended primarily on the national curriculum. However, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) can benefit from adopting innovative curriculum models to strengthen its role in the community and create a strong brand identity. This study investigates the balance and consistency of a local curriculum grounded in diniyah (Islamic religious) education, analyzed through the Curricular Spider Web model. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five teachers and a school principal and classroom observations. Data analysis was conducted through data condensation, display, and verification processes. The findings reveal that the curriculum at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Brunosari aligns well with the Spider Web model's components. However, challenges remain, particularly in the teacher’s role component, as some students continue to struggle with material mastery, indicating a need for further support and adaptation in curriculum delivery

Abstract

Difficulties in understanding addition and subtraction operations with whole numbers remain a challenge for early elementary school students. One of the main causes is the lack of engaging and interactive learning media. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using the Math Adventure Board in enhancing students' understanding of addition and subtraction operations with whole numbers. This research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 17 randomly selected first-grade students from MIN 3 Purworejo. Data were collected through validated pretest and posttest assessments. The analysis results showed that the obtained gain score was 0.67 (moderate category), and the paired t-test indicated a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results with a p-value < 0.05. These findings suggest that the Math Adventure Board effectively improves students' understanding of addition and subtraction operations with whole numbers. Therefore, this media can be considered an alternative and effective mathematical learning strategy at the elementary school level. Keywords: Math Adventure Board, whole number operations, interactive learning, conceptual understanding

Abstract

This research investigates the comparative approach to fiqh education on waqf in Malaysia and Indonesia, focusing on curricular structures, pedagogical approaches, learning materials, and governance frameworks. This study uses a qualitative research technique with a comparative analytical lens to conduct document reviews, expert interviews, and field observations at Islamic higher education institutions. The findings show that Malaysia uses a systematic and regulatory-backed framework to integrate fiqh education into a centralized governance architecture. In contrast, Indonesia employs a decentralized and flexible strategy, allowing for more curricular flexibility that is consistent with regional socio-cultural circumstances. The study emphasizes the importance of combining traditional Islamic legal concepts with modern educational governance to improve the effectiveness and accessibility of waqf-related fiqh education. The study makes practical recommendations to improve the sustainability and efficacy of waqf education in both nations, focusing on digital transformation, policy alignment, and the importance of international cooperation.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the planning of the independent curriculum in elementary madrasas. The policy of implementing the independent curriculum in madrasas greatly determines the success of madrasas in forming a student-centered madrasa environment. Therefore, this study focuses on observing the preparation of madrasas in implementing the independent curriculum, compiling the operational curriculum of madrasas, compiling teaching modules, and compiling project modules for strengthening the profile of Pancasila students and the profile of rahmatan lil alamin students. This study was conducted qualitatively using data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation. The location of this study was MI Ma'arif NU Beji and MI Ma'arif NU Banjarparakan, with informants of the principal of the madrasa, class 1 teachers, and class 4 teachers. The results of the study showed that 1) the process of compiling the operational curriculum of madrasas is still not functional and is still interpreted as a document. KOM at MI Ma'arif NU Banjarparakan and MI Ma'arif NU Beji are still at the level of adopting the existing curriculum format; 2) the class 1 and class 4 teachers are still in the early stages of adapting existing teaching module examples; 3) the process of compiling project modules is still lacking in terms of understanding the concept of the project by teachers, resulting in minimalist project modules and some components are found to be lacking; 4) the obstacles faced by the madrasah arise due to the limited understanding of teachers so that further assistance and training are needed.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the educational approach in conveying the concept of the ruh according to the Qur'an through the character Meri in the Jumbo animated movie. The concept of the ruh is an important part of Islamic teachings that is often difficult for children to understand due to its abstract and metaphysical nature. The animated Jumbo movie is considered a potential medium for conveying spiritual values in an engaging and communicative manner. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach. Data were obtained from the narration of scenes in the Jumbo movie and verses from the Qur'an that are relevant to the concept of the ruh. The research results show that the character Meri depicts a spiritual journey and a quest for identity that symbolically represent the meaning of the ruh in Islam. This movie conveys values such as self-awareness, the meaning of life and the relationship with God in a subtle yet profound manner. An educational approach based on animated media like Jumbo can be a strategic alternative in teaching spiritual values. These findings open up opportunities for the development of more creative and contextual religious learning media, as well as providing a foundation for further research in the fields of Islamic education, child psychology and visual media.

Abstract

The teaching of Qur’anic literacy at the elementary education level, particularly in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), serves not only as a foundational pillar of Islamic education but also as a crucial instrument for shaping students’ spiritual, moral, and intellectual development. This study investigates the implementation of the Qiroati method at MI Sultan Fatah Demak, a prominent Islamic institution in Central Java, Indonesia. The Qiroati method emphasizes direct, fluent Qur’anic reading without spelling each letter, and it strictly adheres to the rules of makhraj (pronunciation) and tajwid (recitation). Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and school leaders, and document analysis. The method of triangulation was used to ensure data validity. The research reveals that the Qiroati method is implemented through a structured pedagogical model consisting of three phases: habituation (daily group reading of short surahs and prayers), classical instruction (collective guided reading with visual aids), and individual reading sessions (student-led recitation assessed by teachers). These stages reflect a blend of educational theories—behaviorism, constructivism, and audiolingual approaches—which enhance both linguistic and affective aspects of learning. The findings demonstrate that the Qiroati method has significantly improved students’ proficiency in reading the Qur’an, not only in technical fluency but also in fostering religious discipline and ethical character. Supporting factors include qualified instructors certified through syahadah training, school policy alignment, structured class systems, and active parental involvement. However, the research also identifies challenges such as students’ lack of motivation, limited family support at home, and tardiness that disrupts learning routines. To address these, the school implements personalized mentoring, strengthens school-family collaboration, and utilizes engaging teaching media. This study contributes to the discourse on Qur’anic pedagogy by positioning the Qiroati method as a holistic model for Qur’anic literacy that integrates educational theory with spiritual formation. It offers actionable insights for Islamic schools seeking to enrich their Qur’anic education programs through contextual, inclusive, and systematic methods

Abstract

Curriculum and learning management are two strategic components in determining the quality of primary education. Each educational institution develops its curriculum model according to its institutional vision, socio-cultural context, and long-term learning objectives. The differing characteristics between traditional Islamic schools and internationally based primary schools reflect a diversity of approaches in designing and managing learning processes. In this context, this study examines the curriculum design models and learning management implemented at MI Tarbiyatul Islamiyah Pati and DaQu Primary School, Semarang. Using a qualitative approach with a comparative case study method, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings show that MI Tarbiyatul Islamiyah Pati integrates the National Curriculum with a local curriculum based on Islamic values, employing a character-based learning approach and habitual worship practices. Meanwhile, DaQu Primary School Semarang adopts the National Curriculum and the Cambridge International Curriculum with an orientation toward 21st-century skills and technology-based learning. Significant differences are observed in curriculum orientation, teacher roles, evaluation methods, and classroom management systems. However, each institution possesses contextual strengths that can serve as inspiration for developing a hybrid curriculum model. This study recommends a collaboration of religious values and global approaches in designing adaptive and holistic primary education.
