Abstract

Character degradation is an issue that has not yet found an end point in the world of education. Various efforts have been made to overcome this problem, one of which is by utilizing extracurricular scout activities. This research aims to determine the internalization of scouting values in social studies learning as an effort to build student character. Using a qualitative approach, this research was at MTs.Negeri 2 Sidrap. Research informants were school principals, teachers, and students. Data collection techniques are in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. To obtain the validity of the data, triangulation of methods and sources was carried out. After the data was collected, the data was analyzed by referring to the stages of Miles and Huberman. The results of the research found that efforts to shape students’ character through scouting extracurricular activities will involve habituation, role modeling, sanctions, and are expected to shape students’ personalities into discipline. The process of internalizing scouting values is taught and instilled by students or scout members through the 10 pillars of character formation in Dasa Dharma and instilled in students such as devotion to God Almighty, willingness to help and be steadfast, pure in thoughts, words and deeds, as well as a high sense of responsibility.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze teaching modules that have been developed by history teachers in terms of the Merdeka Curriculum policy by paying attention to aspects of the completeness and systematics of teaching modules, and aspects of the content of teaching modules. The method used in this research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The data collection technique only uses documentation techniques in the form of teaching modules for history teachers at SMAN 1 Padang and SMAN 1 Ranah Pasisia. The data analysis technique uses techniques developed by Habermas, namely data reduction, data presentation, and verification or conclusion. The research results show that the teaching modules from both schools meet the Ministry of Education and Culture's curriculum standards and are by Ministry of Education and Culture Decree No. 008/H/KR/2022. Teachers at both schools succeeded in integrating historical thinking skills, historical awareness, and historical research into learning. However, there are differences in the development of practical historical skills, the local material included, and the development of summative assessments. This analysis shows variations in the approach, completeness, and presentation of material in history teaching modules in the two schools. Evaluation of teaching module components, skills development, the material contained, and formative and summative assessments are needed to improve the quality of history learning in both schools. The implications of this research show that there are variations in the approach, completeness, and presentation of materials in the history teaching modules in both schools.

Abstract

The Mappadendang tradition, as one of the cultural heritage of the Bugis people in South Sulawesi, plays an important role in maintaining the preservation of cultural and social values. This research aims to analyze gender equality in the context of the implementation of the Mappadendang tradition. Using a qualitative approach to explore gender perceptions and participation. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with 18 informants consisting of traditional actors, community leaders, and regional policymakers in the Wattang Bacukiki Village. Data analysis was carried out by applying Fatimah Mernissi's Islamic Feminism theory, with a focus on narrative interpretation to identify and understand aspects of gender equality in traditional practices. The results show how important female figures are in the Mappadendang tradition in social, cultural, and religious contexts. This tradition also reflects gender equality with active and alternating participation between men and women in the preparation and implementation of the tradition. This research highlights the active role of Muslim women in caring for and preserving cultural heritage. Mappadendang creates an inclusive environment without boundaries of difference, supports gender equality, and is an example of women's empowerment. Overall, this tradition reflects how the principles of Islamic feminism shape and strengthen gender equality in everyday life as well as the implementation of local traditions that are categorized as gender responsive. Full support from the community and government is needed to maintain sustainability and local values, especially in the context of the Mappadendang tradition.

Abstract

The concept of dramaturgy focuses on social life as a dramatic performance with the strategy of creating an appealing image for the public. The purpose of this research is to examine the roles and challenges of using dramaturgy in selecting an ideal leader. This research uses qualitative methods. Informants in this study consist of community figures, traditional leaders, and legislative candidates in Mancani Village. Data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques applied include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results show that dramaturgy in leadership selection can reveal aspects of leaders that may not be apparent through their vision and mission, build attractiveness towards leaders in the eyes of the public, and effectively package political messages to create a convincing image. However, challenges in implementing dramaturgy include maintaining the authentic identity of a leader, difficulty in distinguishing between genuine character and constructed imagery, and diverse expectations from the community towards their leaders. Therefore, leaders must maintain their integrity and authentic identity in fulfilling their leadership roles. This helps them meet the expectations of the people they lead and maintain the trust that has been established.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the social construction process as an effort to internalize the value of tolerance in Nyadran through the addition of the word Perdamaian which is then often referred to as Nyadran Perdamaian. This research is a qualitative study using a case study approach in Krecek Hamlet and Glethuk Hamlet. Research data were obtained through the process of in-depth interviews and literature studies. This research results in an understanding that the social construction of Nyadran Perdamaian gives rise to the internalization of the value of tolerance. The value of tolerance in Nyadran Perdamaian is lived through the creation of social reality with the dialectical triad process of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. The appreciation of the value of tolerance by the people of Krecek and Gletuk Hamlets is also pursued through the institutionalization of tradition by changing the name to Nyadran Perdamaian. From the findings of this study, it can be understood that good values in tradition can be maximized through the creation of social reality by individuals or humans. The creation of social reality in Nyadran Perdamaian can also be a prototype for other regions to live the noble values in the tradition. This research also contributes to enriching the study of social construction and provides an understanding that values in tradition can be constructed by individuals so that they can be internalized optimally.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of globalization on the social behavior and local cultural identity of the Sade community, focusing on the changes that occurred before and after the transformation of Sade hamlet into a tourist destination. The research method used was qualitative using interviews as an instrument to obtain the views of various informants, including traditional leaders, master teachers, and the general public, regarding their perceptions of the impact of globalization. The results showed significant changes in several aspects, including consumption patterns, social values and norms, and the cultural identity of the Sade community. Globalization has affected people's consumption patterns, with an increasing preference for global products over traditional local products. In addition, there has been a shift in social values and norms, with individualistic values from global culture beginning to influence the social structure that was previously dominated by values of collectivity and solidarity in the Sade community. Changes in cultural identity also occur where interaction with global culture creates new dynamics in the understanding and experience of the Sade community's cultural identity. Awareness of the importance of cultural preservation and traditional values becomes crucial in maintaining the authenticity of local identity amidst the continuous flow of globalization.

Abstract

Most women agree that their responsibilities and position within the family are crucial to what women do today. The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of education on the improvement of the social status of women and their families, as well as how education is a key factor in social mobility in Nurture theory. This study employs a qualitative method with 60 random participants to examine the impact of education on improving women's and their families' social status, as well as its role in social mobility based on Nurture theory. The findings reveal that education enhances social and economic status, provides better job opportunities, and serves as a role model for future generations. However, social and cultural barriers continue to limit women in balancing careers and family life. This study highlights the importance of expanding access to education and challenging gender stereotypes to support women's roles in society.

Abstract

This research explores the phenomenon of culture shock experienced by the Minangkabau community in Makassar, focusing on its stages and effects. The research employs a qualitative ethnographic design, gathering data through interviews, observations, and documentation to understand the cultural adaptation process. Guided by Kalervo Oberg's U-Curve theory of adjustment, the findings reveal that Minangkabau migrants undergo four distinct stages of culture shock: honeymoon, frustration, adjustment, and adaptation/acceptance. In the honeymoon phase, migrants experience excitement and fascination as they engage with Makassarese culture. However, this enthusiasm fades in the frustration phase, where language barriers, communication differences, and unfamiliar social norms create stress and isolation. The adjustment phase marks a turning point, as migrants develop coping strategies, learn local customs, and build social networks. Finally, the adaptation and acceptance phase sees them achieving a balance between preserving their cultural identity and integrating into the host society. The research concludes that while culture shock presents initial challenges, it ultimately fosters personal growth, resilience, and cultural competence. The findings underscore the importance of social support, cultural awareness, and adaptability in facilitating successful cultural transitions. This research highlights how culture shock, despite its difficulties, can lead to positive outcomes, enriching both the migrants' lives and the multicultural landscape of Makassar.

Abstract

Islam is the majority religion in both Pakistan and Indonesia, the two countries with the largest Muslim populations in the world. While both uphold Islam as the primary faith, religious practices in each country are influenced by differing historical, social, and cultural contexts. This article compares Islamic religious practices in these two nations from a socio-cultural perspective. The research method utilized includes a lecture delivered by Assist. Prof. Muhammad Ajmal Shah, an academic and practitioner from Pakistan. The analysis covers various aspects, such as the size of the Muslim population, the application of Sharia law, variations in Islamic sects and practices, and the interplay between religion and politics. The findings indicate that in Pakistan, Islam serves as a foundational basis for policymaking and national identity, with stricter implementation of Sharia law. In contrast, Indonesia integrates Islamic law with customary and secular laws within a pluralistic framework. Both countries face challenges in maintaining religious tolerance and social stability amidst globalization and modernization. The study concludes that despite differences in the implementation of Islamic law and politics, religion continues to play a significant role in both countries, presenting challenges and opportunities to uphold societal harmony.

Abstract

Intimate partner violence, particularly when fueled by toxic masculinity, remains a significant issue in Indonesia, where patriarchal social norms dominate societal structures. Toxic masculinity, characterized by traits such as dominance, control, and emotional repression, serves as the foundation for violence in intimate relationships, often justified as an expression of love and care. This study aims to explore the impact of toxic masculinity on relationship violence from the perspective of victims. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed to understand the subjective experiences of five female informants, aged 20-21, who have experienced various forms of violence—verbal, emotional, psychological, and physical—within their romantic relationships. The findings indicate that toxic masculinity is expressed through behaviors such as possessiveness, jealousy, verbal abuse, physical violence, and emotional manipulation. These behaviors are often driven by power imbalances within relationships, shaped by deeply entrenched gender norms. Hegemonic masculinity, which reinforces male dominance over women, was identified as a key factor in justifying such violence. The study emphasizes the critical need for education that challenges toxic masculinity norms and promotes gender equality to reduce the prevalence of relationship violence. The findings provide valuable insights for policy development and intervention strategies, offering recommendations for addressing gender-based violence in Indonesia and promoting a more equitable society.
