Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in densely populated environments such as Islamic boarding schools. This community engagement program aimed to improve awareness, early detection, and prevention of tuberculosis through the “Healthy Adolescents Without TB” campaign at Hidayatulloh Al-Muhajirin Islamic Boarding School, Bangkalan. A total of 150 students participated in the activities, which implemented a participatory, faith-based health education model combining contextual learning, tuberculosis screening, and healthy behavior promotion. Interactive education sessions, audiovisual media, and testimonials from TB survivors significantly increased students’ understanding of disease prevention. Screening identified 13 students (8.6%) with chronic cough, 9 (6.0%) with weight loss, and 5 (3.3%) with night sweats, all referred for further evaluation at local health facilities. The integration of Islamic values into health messages enhanced cultural acceptance and motivated sustainable behavioral change. Overall, the program effectively strengthened adolescent health literacy and fostered active community participation, demonstrating that contextual, participatory, and faith-based education can serve as a replicable model to support Indonesia’s tuberculosis elimination strategy.

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a growing health problem, including among adolescents in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) where diets are high in fat and low in fiber, and physical activity is limited. This condition carries a risk of developing cardiovascular disease, necessitating preventive interventions tailored to the characteristics of the Islamic boarding school community. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to increase students' knowledge and awareness of high cholesterol prevention through healthy lifestyle education and the use of bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum) as an alternative herbal cholesterol-lowering agent. The program's innovation lies in integrating evidence-based health education with local wisdom, making it easily implemented in Islamic boarding schools. The activity was conducted at the Zainul Hasan Genggong Islamic Boarding School in Probolinggo in May 2025, involving 30 students and 14 religious teachers. The methods used included an initial survey, FGDs, interactive counseling with pre- and post-test evaluations, and free health checks, including anthropometry, blood pressure, and blood sugar measurements, medical consultations, and medication administration. The primary outcome was increased participant knowledge, measured by comparing pre-test and post-test scores and baseline health data from the examination. The results of the activity showed an average increase in participant knowledge of 23.4 points between the pre-test and post-test. Students also gained practical skills in using bay leaves as a daily ingredient beneficial for health.

Abstract

Inclusive education requires teachers who are able to identify diverse learning needs, design adaptive instruction, and utilize engaging learning media that support all students, including those with special educational needs. The needs assessment conducted in the Sigi district showed that most teachers had not previously received comprehensive training on inclusive practices, and more than seventy percent lacked access to simple educational media such as story-based materials and animations. This community engagement program aimed to strengthen teacher competence through training on the development and classroom application of biblioeducation and educational animation grounded in local Kaili cultural values. Using a participatory training and mentoring approach, the program included workshops, hands-on media production, classroom implementation, and structured evaluation. Quantitative findings indicated substantial improvement in teacher competence, with the average pre-test score increasing from 64.67 to 90.50 in the post-test. More than eighty percent of teachers achieved medium to high gain scores, and sixty percent reported high levels of perceived competence after the training. Classroom observations also showed that the stories and animations developed effectively supported the delivery of empathy, cooperation, and anti-bullying values. These results demonstrate that integrating culturally grounded biblioeducation and educational animation is an effective strategy for enhancing inclusive teaching practices, especially in schools with limited resources.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) and hypertension remain major public health burdens in Indonesia, contributing to the country’s persistent double burden of disease. Community-based health promotion programs serve as a strategic approach to enhance awareness and preventive behaviors. This research aim to evaluate the effect of educational interventions on knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors related to tuberculosis and hypertension under the Kelurahan Binaan. A pre–post interventional study was conducted among 83 adult participants selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria. Interventions included health education on TB and hypertension and dietary counseling delivered through lecture-based methods. Data on knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors were collected using validated questionnaires. Wilcoxon Signed Rank and McNemar tests were applied for analysis. Significant improvements were observed in knowledge of tuberculosis (Z = –6.050; p < 0.001) and hypertension (Z = –4.735; p < 0.001). Attitudes toward TB (p = 0.012) and hypertension (p < 0.001) also increased significantly. Preventive behavior significantly improved for both TB (Z = –3.632; p < 0.001) and hypertension (p < 0.001). Correlation analysis revealed significant associations between knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors. Educational and dietary interventions effectively improved community knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors toward tuberculosis and hypertension. Sustainable and continuous education programs are recommended to maintain these improvements.

Abstract

Elections are the primary instrument for implementing popular sovereignty within Indonesia’s constitutional democratic system. However, the dynamics of election administration still face various challenges such as administrative violations, vote buying, and weak effectiveness in election law enforcement. This study aims to analyze the transformation of the Election Supervisory Agency’s (Bawaslu) authority following the Constitutional Court Decision Number 104/PUU-XXIII/2025, which changed Bawaslu’s recommendations into final and binding decisions. Using a normative juridical research method with legislative, conceptual, and case approaches, this study finds that the Court’s decision brings significant changes to Indonesia’s electoral justice system. First, it strengthens Bawaslu’s position as a quasi-judicial institution with adjudicative functions in election law enforcement. Second, it affirms the principle of checks and balances among election administrators. Third, it enhances legal certainty and accountability in the administration of democratic and integrity-based elections. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of this transformation still depends on regulatory harmonization, institutional reform, and capacity building of Bawaslu personnel at all levels. Kedua, menegaskan prinsip checks and balances antarpenyelenggara pemilu.

Abstract

Law enforcement against narcotic crimes in Indonesia requires a proportional and layered approach. Based on Law No. 35 of 2009 and the Attorney General’s Guideline No. 11 of 2021, the enforcement system is built on a differentiation of offenders, whereby users, addicts, and victims of drug abuse are directed toward rehabilitative mechanisms, while dealers, manufacturers, couriers, and network actors are subjected to a repressive approach. The Integrated Assessment serves as a key instrument to determine the legal and medical status of the offender, preventing excessive criminalization and ensuring an appropriate legal response. This study demonstrates that the effectiveness of law enforcement depends heavily on consistent implementation of assessments, the professionalism of law enforcement officers, and cross-agency coordination. In conclusion, Indonesia’s narcotics law enforcement model integrates human rights protection, substantive justice, and firm action against drug trafficking, while positioning the assessment as the primary filter in determining the case handling pathway.

Abstract

The widespread use of gadgets among children, including santri (Islamic boarding school students), contributes significantly to ocular health issues such as eye strain, dry eyes, and escalating myopia rates. Recognizing the limited awareness of excessive screen exposure risks, this community service intervention aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of 38 Santri Husada (Student Health Cadres) at Assalafi Al-Fithrah Islamic Boarding School in Surabaya by implementing The 20-20-20 Rule. The methodology employed an interactive educational approach divided into three phases: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The core procedure involved pre-test administration, interactive health sessions, practical simulation of the 20-20-20 Rule, educational leaflet distribution, and a post-test. Data were analyzed using the N-Gain score to measure effectiveness. Results demonstrated a significant knowledge improvement, with the average score increasing from 5.8 (pre-test) to 8.8 (post-test). N-Gain analysis indicated that 71.05% of participants achieved a high-improvement category, confirming the effectiveness of the interactive educational method. This activity successfully enhanced the santri's health understanding and is deemed a potential sustainable health education model for boarding schools, although long-term monitoring is recommended.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases are the leading cause of death globally, with hypertension being one of the most prevalent conditions characterized by elevated blood pressure above normal limits. In Sampang Regency, Madura, more than 15,000 hypertension cases were reported in 2022, reflecting significant public health concern. Poor health literacy, high-salt and high-fat dietary habits, and lack of physical activity contribute to the growing incidence. This community service program was conducted at Darussalam Al-Faisholiyah Islamic Boarding School in Sampang, aiming to improve the capacity of pesantren cadres in hypertension prevention through training on producing herbal drinks made from celery extract as a complementary therapy. The program included educational sessions on hypertension, hands-on practice in herbal drink preparation, and pre-test and post-test evaluations. Fifteen pesantren cadres actively participated in the activity. The results showed an increase in participants’ average knowledge scores from 7.4 to 8.4, indicating better understanding and practical skills. The program successfully enhanced health literacy, promoted healthy lifestyle awareness, and empowered the pesantren community to engage in preventive health practices. This initiative has the potential to be replicated in other pesantren to expand its preventive impact on hypertension, with continued mentoring and cadre monitoring recommended for sustainability.
