Abstract

This study identifies the challenges faced by students in higher education, which require academic resilience to overcome effectively. The study aims to analyze the role of local Indonesian values, such as "gotong royong" (mutual cooperation), "tawakall" (trust in God), and "kesederhanaan" (simplicity), in shaping students' academic resilience. The research method employed is a qualitative approach using focus group discussions, involving 82 undergraduate students from three major cities in Indonesia. Data collection was conducted through guided group discussions that explored students' experiences and perspectives on academic resilience. Data analysis was carried out thematically to uncover the contributions of local values to academic resilience, such as perseverance, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. The findings of the study indicate that local Indonesian values play a crucial role in shaping students' academic resilience by providing a foundation for perseverance and adaptability. The study also discusses the importance of integrating local values into educational practices and research at universities to create a resilient academic environment. The conclusion of this study is that collaborative efforts among university stakeholders are essential to promoting local values in strengthening students' academic resilience.

Abstract

The lack of attention to instilling proper etiquette in daily life can affect the development of children’s character and moral intelligence. Sundanese dining etiquette, as a cultural heritage, serves as a medium to instill moral values and build the character of younger generations. This study aims to analyze the role of parents in instilling Sundanese dining etiquette to achieve children's moral intelligence. The research method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by conducting a literature search on electronic databases, including Google Scholar, ERIC, and Taylor and Francis. A total of 30 relevant articles were thematically analyzed and presented in tables and narrative analysis. The findings reveal that parents play a crucial role as educators, role models, and supervisors in supporting children to achieve moral intelligence. The stages children experience include moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. The habituation of Sundanese dining etiquette, through strong collaboration between mothers and fathers, positively impacts children’s character formation, such as independence, discipline, and politeness. This study concludes that parents' active roles in guiding and supervising their children during each stage of moral development are essential for achieving moral intelligence. Expanding the scope of literature is recommended to explore other local cultures as alternatives for fostering children’s moral intelligence.

Abstract

Music, with its various benefits, can serve as an effective strategy for instilling character values in education. This study examines the strategy applied through music, particularly in singing activities using the song “Mars Gembira Bergerak.” The research is descriptive and adopts a qualitative approach. Data analysis is conducted through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, including the transcription of the song's notation to understand the lyrics and their meaning. The primary informant in this study is the song's creator. Triangulation techniques were used to evaluate the educational strategy implemented. The findings show that the song contains character values such as responsibility, enthusiasm, independence, creativity, and wisdom. The movements included in the singing activity are also essential for aligning with the character of junior high school students. The implications of this research suggest that teachers should create rhythmic movements in accordance with the music's rhythm. Additionally, the lyrics of the song incorporate the slogan of Bengkayang Regency, which teaches students to raise their thumbs while saying the word “mantap,” making this movement a part of the rhythmic activities that support character learning.

Abstract

The lack of environmental awareness and concern among school-age children poses a challenge in fostering environmentally responsible character from an early age. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Sekolah Lapang program on students' environmental awareness. Specifically, it seeks to measure changes in attitudes before and after participating in the program and to evaluate its effectiveness in cultivating environmental consciousness among children. This study employs a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design. Data were collected using a questionnaire consisting of 20 statements measuring students' environmental awareness. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive techniques to identify general trends and inferential analysis using a t-test to examine significant differences before and after the intervention. The findings indicate that the Sekolah Lapang program significantly enhances students' environmental responsibility. The average score increased by 16.85 points, with the t-test results showing a significance value of 0.00 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant change. These findings confirm that the Sekolah Lapang program is an effective strategy for instilling environmental awareness in school-age children and can serve as a sustainable environmental education model.

Abstract

Semester Learning Plans (RPS) oriented toward learning outcomes often overlook the development of students' character. In the context of higher education, the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach offers a solution by emphasizing clear and measurable learning outcomes, while the character values of Mpu Kuturan can reinforce students' moral and ethical dimensions. This study aims to develop an OBE-based RPS integrated with Mpu Kuturan’s character values to enhance the quality of higher education. This research adopts a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). Data were collected through document analysis, interviews with lecturers, and classroom observations. The research subjects included subject matter experts, policy administrators, teaching practitioners (lecturers), and postgraduate students in Hindu Religious Education. The instruments used included questionnaires, and data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings indicate that developing an OBE-based RPS integrated with Mpu Kuturan’s character values is highly feasible for implementation in the Master’s Program of Hindu Religious Education. The developed RPS not only enhances curriculum relevance but also strengthens students' commitment to academic ethics and increases their engagement in learning. Thus, this approach can serve as an innovative model for designing higher education curricula based on character values and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research addresses the issue of sportsmanship values in the traditional game of Bob Wrestling from the Marind Tribe, which often lacks adherence to fair play principles. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive design, the study analyzes participant attitudes towards sportsmanship within this cultural context. Data collection instruments included structured questionnaires and documentation, focusing on indicators such as commitment to sport, social conventions, compliance with regulations, and positive attitudes. Findings indicate that the sportsmanship value of Bob Wrestling falls within a medium to high category, with 48% of respondents classified as medium, 30% as high, and 12% as very high. This suggests a significant link between totemism and sportsmanship, highlighting the protective role of cultural values in fostering fair competition. In conclusion, the research emphasizes the importance of integrating local cultural values into sports education to enhance sportsmanship among participants, contributing to the preservation of traditional games and promoting positive attitudes in competitive settings.

Abstract

Ngaben as a form of social activity resulting from religious and cultural practices, not only has a theological dimension. However, it has pedagogical substance. The essentialism of ngaben values, which are rich in socio-cultural values, can be systematically accommodated in social science education. Social science education that examines aspects of social life can use ngaben as a contextual aspect in instilling character values in students. The purpose of this research is to interpret the socio-cultural activities within ngaben as a primary aspect in shaping student behavior, because it contains ethical values. The ethical values obtained through contextual learning experiences are the result of the interpretation and implementation of social meaning. Additionally, the inclusivity of socio-cultural activities can also reshape constructive discourse in the classroom. The research on the ngaben ceremony in shaping character education in social studies learning uses a qualitative approach, specifically a case study. The stages of the case study in this research are operationalized in several aspects, namely: a) case selection, b) literature review, c) formulation of the problem focus, d) data collection, e) data analysis. The collectivity in the preparation of the ceremony can be seen in the mebat process. Ngaben also has a local value substance called ngayah, which represents the sincerity of a social community in helping other members of society. The ngaben ceremony and the ngayah system represent social integration, due to the context of social science learning materials and character building. Furthermore, ngaben also has a constructive aspect in forming values of responsibility (social solidarity) in social studies education. In conclusion, the values of the ngaben ceremony in the contextualization of social studies learning include social integration values and responsibility values. The implementation of ngaben is not only theologically dimensional, but the practice of Hinduism can also be pedagogically contextualized.

Abstract

The numeracy skills of prospective elementary school teachers remain relatively low and are often not contextualized with relevant local values in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a mathematics textbook infused with Mpu Kuturan's values in improving numeracy skills among prospective elementary school teachers. A quasi-experimental design was employed, using a nonequivalent group pretest-posttest model. The research subjects consisted of 56 PGSD students who were enrolled in the Mathematics Education course. Data were collected using a validated numeracy test and analyzed quantitatively through t-tests. The results showed an increase in the average numeracy score from 62.45 (pretest) to 81.23 (posttest), with the t-test indicating a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), confirming a statistically significant improvement. These findings indicate that integrating local values into mathematics teaching materials enhances not only cognitive aspects but also reinforces relevant cultural values in the learning process. This study recommends the development of contextual learning materials based on local wisdom as an innovative strategy in teacher education.

Abstract

Acts of violence in the school environment are complex problems that can hinder the psychological and academic development of students. Although various policies have been issued, many educational units still lack a structured and responsive system for preventing and handling violence. This research aims to develop an Android-based application as a medium for assessing, educating, reporting, and managing violence in schools. This type of research is a form of research and development (R&D) that is carried out through the stages of preliminary study, planning, initial product development, limited field trials, product revision, and dissemination. The subjects in this study include IT experts, educators, and high school students. Data were collected through literature studies, interviews, and questionnaires, and then analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that student involvement in positive activities was correlated with prosocial behaviour and improved academic achievement. In addition, educational units that implement more violence prevention strategies tend to have lower rates of violence. This study concludes that the development of an early detection instrument for potential violence and the design of an Android-based application have been successfully carried out. The implications of this study suggest that the use of digital applications can be a valuable solution in creating a safe, friendly, and inclusive learning environment.

Abstract

Character refers to a set of moral values, attitudes, and behaviors that form an individual's personality and influence their actions across various situations. This study aims to analyze the contribution of physical education to character development in school students through a systematic literature review approach. The research followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses) protocol, utilizing the Covidence platform to facilitate the screening and data extraction process. Articles were retrieved from Google Scholar and Crossref databases using Harzing’s Publish or Perish application. Out of 750 initial articles, 15 met the established inclusion and exclusion criteria and were selected for systematic analysis. Thematic synthesis was applied to identify key findings across the studies. The results reveal that physical education plays a significant role in shaping students’ holistic character. Structured physical activities within the physical education curriculum can foster core values such as responsibility, cooperation, independence, discipline, tolerance, honesty, and self-confidence. The findings conclude that physical education not only supports physical development but also serves as a strategic medium for character reinforcement. This study offers important implications for curriculum development and learning practices that integrate character education through physical activities.
