This study aims to determine the characteristics of the thinking of Ahmad al-Mutawakkil, a pioneer of functional nahwu theory, namely about al-nahwu al-wazhifi and the contribution of his thinking to the development of nahwu learning. This biographical type of literature study uses data collection techniques through reviewing and searching for library sources that are relevant to functional nahwu. Data analysis uses historical methods and content analysis. This research resulted in: 1) The characteristics of al-nahwu al-wazhifi al-Mutawakkil include: aspects of using language both spoken and written which are limited and simple, the relationship between i'rab and sentence structure is applied appropriately and correctly to produce a clear and understandable meaning, and summarizes the basic methodological principles adopted in functional grammar, 2) al-Mutawakkil's thoughts regarding al-nahwu al-wazhifi contributed greatly to the development of nahwu learning by increasing the learning outcomes of Arabic language learners. The simplification of nahwu learning which is oriented towards communication aspects prioritizes pragmatic and communicative functional elements of language.

Abstract

Interference in insya' writing skills should be considered a very unnatural phenomenon. The reason is that the writing process requires structure in composing words, as well as careful consideration of every expression to be conveyed. In contrast to maharah kalam which is spontaneous, where expressions are thrown out without in-depth planning. Meanwhile, interference in semantic aspects is rarely the focus of attention as is generally the case with errors in syntax and morphology. Errors in these two aspects often get more attention than the attention given to interference in the semantic domain. Therefore, this study aims to critically analyze semantic interference around idioms and meaning relations that occur in the insya' of school and university level learners. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research method by conducting text content analysis. The results of the text content analysis show that semantic interference around idioms occurs in the use of the letter jar while interference around meaning relations occurs in the choice of synonyms and ambiguity of meaning. The implication of this study is the importance of a deep understanding of the semantic differences between Arabic and Indonesian. This can help language teaching and learning as well as improve the understanding and interpretation of insya' texts that contain interference.

Abstract

This study investigates the perceptions of bachelor and master students of Arabic Language Education towards the use of translation software in higher education, focusing at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with a questionnaire design and interviews to gain an in-depth understanding of students' views. The collected data underwent 4 stages of analysis: data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The findings show that almost all students use software in translating and doing assignments, with varying portions of use. This happens because they feel helped by the software in doing various assignments easily and quickly, even though also realize that various software is very prone to errors. Students realize that the software allows them to be lazy to translate manually as well as the potential for dependence in its use. Consequently, the translation results generated by the software must be readjusted to the context of the sentence or paragraph being translated. The implication is the need for a cautious approach to the use of translation software in higher education, with an awareness of the limitations of such software, as well as the importance of manual language skill development.

Abstract

This research study was motivated by several key factors. Firstly, the Arabic language holds great religious and cultural significance in Indonesia, as it is a core component of Islamic identity and practice, particularly in the context of Quranic education for children. However, many students at Quranic preschools struggle with developing proficiency in spoken Arabic. Additionally, educational literature emphasizes the critical role of student motivation in facilitating effective language learning outcomes. Therefore, it was important to investigate the factors influencing students' motivation to learn Arabic in this specific educational setting. Moreover, most prior research in this field has been conducted in non-Indonesian contexts, necessitating localized studies to explore the nuances of the Indonesian educational dynamics. Ultimately, this research aimed to help address the gaps in the existing body of knowledge around Arabic language instruction in Indonesian Quranic preschools. The researcher employed a quantitative approach and simple linear regression to analyze data collected from interviews, observations and questionnaires. Statistical tests of validity, reliability, normality, linearity and correlation were performed on the questionnaire data using SPSS. The iresults ishowed ithat iintensive Arabic classes had a significant effect on students' motivation to learn speaking skills, as idemonstrated iby ia ip-value iof iless ithan i0.05. Regression analysis further reported that these classes influenced motivation by 33.1%, as indicated by the R-squared value. Therefore, the intensive language exposure appeared to positively impact the kindergarteners' drive to develop their Arabic communication abilities.

Abstract

This research explores thematic analysis based on lexical and grammatical cohesion in a journalistic context, especially on news narratives from Al Jazeera newspaper, Mu'jam Mustalahat al-I'lamiyah, and the Dictionary of Press &; Media. The objective of this study is to understand the relationship between form and meaning in the domain of journalism. A descriptive qualitative approach is used to reveal the details of these aspects. The data collection method is focused on literature research to obtain data. In data analysis, lexical and grammatical codes are identified based on content, theme, meaning, and concept description. Lexical cohesion in each news narrative is explained through Word Frequency Analysis to assess the recurrence of words, while the use of linkage markers is assessed to evaluate grammatical fluency. The results revealed the interrelationship between form and meaning, with the identification of 58 forms of Arabic basic word concepts in the form of fi'il madhi and 14 nominal phrase forms, the jumlah-ismiyah. This finding can be applied to enrich the news narrative in the Indonesian journalistic context in the form of 230 journalistic terms and 30 themes related to Middle Eastern journalism.

Abstract

Many textbooks available in the market require educators to be selective when choosing and using them as sources of knowledge to support learning. A high-quality textbook should align with the developmental and growth stages of students to achieve national educational goals. This study aims to evaluate and develop Arabic language textbooks based on BSKAP qualifications. The research employs a qualitative-evaluative approach, specifically a library research study with content analysis. For data analysis, Krippendorf's model is used, and the validity of the data is ensured by cross-checking the findings. The study's results highlight four aspects of textbook feasibility established by BSKAP: content/material feasibility, presentation feasibility, language feasibility, and design/graphic feasibility. Some indicators within each aspect require revisions, additional materials, and innovations from the authors of the Arabic textbooks under KMA 183 and the Arabic language educators who are implementing the independent curriculum.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the need to update and deepen the understanding of Alfiyah Ibnu Malik through a modern linguistic perspective, given the complexity of the 1,002 stanzas that are difficult for students with a weak language foundation to comprehend, and the existing gap in the literature regarding the application of Transformational Generative Theory (TGT) in Arabic grammar, which can help elucidate language structure and enhance understanding and interest in learning. This research aims to examine Alfiyah Ibnu Malik using the modern linguistic approach of Transformational Generative Theory (TGT). The research method applied is library research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings indicate that Transformational Generative Theory has specific characteristics in linguistic studies, including deep and surface structures, the concepts of competence and performance, as well as specific and general transformations. Additionally, TGT includes a universal grammar that can be applied to Alfiyah Ibnu Malik. The application of TGT to Alfiyah Ibnu Malik reveals that specific transformations occur in various aspects of Arabic grammar, including optional and obligatory deletion, optional substitution, optional replacement, optional expansion, optional addition, and optional and obligatory permutation.
