Abstract

Female Sex Workers (FSWs) are a group vulnerable to HIV, violence, unwanted pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) due to limited access to information and reproductive health services. This community service aims to improve the knowledge and attitudes of FSWs and shelter managers regarding reproductive health. The activity was conducted using counseling methods, including material presentations, discussions, and experience sharing. The results of the activity showed an increase in the average knowledge score (from 55.7 to 65.7) and attitude score (from 27.9 to 29.6) after the counseling. Although this program successfully improved reproductive health knowledge and attitudes, cross-sectoral collaboration between the Health Office, Community Health Centers (Puskesmas), NGOs, and academics is still needed to optimize programs and reproductive health services for FSWs.

Abstract

The evolving demands of the labor market require technical skills, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication skills (4C skills). One supporting aspect of 4C skills is writing ability, which can assist students in effectively presenting information, expressing opinions, and communicating well. This community service activity aims to improve students’ ability to produce quality scientific writing, develop 4C skills, and contribute to reducing unemployment through readiness to face the labor market. The workshop implementation method includes a preparation stage, an online workshop stage, and an evaluation stage. The results of the pre-test (M=80.00, SD=12.06) and post-test (M=87.83, SD=10.85) showed a p-value <0.001, indicating that the workshop activity successfully increased participants’ knowledge and understanding of good scientific writing.

Abstract

Diabetic foot ulcers are a complication of diabetes mellitus that can reduce the quality of life, particularly in terms of religious practices for Muslim patients in Indonesia. This program aims to improve knowledge and worship quality in Muslim patients with diabetic foot ulcers through the DiabetEasy program. This program consists of digital health education based on an application and practical worship training for relevant participants at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang, Indonesia. This activity showed increased understanding and worship quality after the intervention, from 60% to 90%. This indicates that this program can improve understanding and worship quality for Muslim patients with diabetic foot ulcers. This program can be an alternative option as a simple non-pharmacological therapy in promotive, preventive, and rehabilitative efforts for the management of diabetic foot ulcers.

Abstract

Culinary MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) in Legok Village face challenges in managing energy consumption efficiently, resulting in higher operational costs. These challenges are due to a lack of tools to monitor energy use and limited knowledge of advanced energy management practices. To address this, this program aims to enhance the understanding of culinary MSME managers in Legok Village about energy efficiency and its practical application by introducing commercially available IoT-based monitoring devices. These devices allow them to track and manage electricity consumption in their culinary businesses effectively. The methods used include theoretical presentations, tool demonstrations, practical exercises, and technology transfer. Evaluation results show that this training is highly effective and increases partner knowledge. Feedback from participants emphasizes the need for improved security, better practicality, and the addition of features such as peak watt monitoring.

Abstract

Mampie Hamlet, West Sulawesi, is experiencing coastal abrasion, increasingly frequent tidal flooding, and water pollution that threaten the environment and community economy. Previous efforts, such as the installation of breakwaters, have not been effective in addressing these issues. This community service aims to increase community awareness and involvement in coastal conservation through a mangrove adoption system. The methods include focus group discussions (FGDs) with stakeholders, participatory visual-based training, and mangrove planting and monitoring at two locations. Four hundred forty-five mangrove seedlings were planted using an adoption system involving the community, schools, and universities. Monitoring over three months showed that 87% of the mangroves survived at the first location, while the second location experienced higher losses due to waste and environmental disturbances. From these results, the mangrove adoption system effectively increases community participation and planting success, although further support is needed in waste management and environmental awareness to maintain the achieved results.

Abstract

Indonesia’s high disaster vulnerability necessitates highly competent emergency medical response volunteers. This training program aimed to enhance the emergency medicine management skills of Disaster Response Scouts in the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY). Thirty participants from five sub-districts (Gunungkidul, Sleman, Kulonprogo, Bantul, and Yogyakarta City) attended the training held May 19, 2024, at the DIY Regional Scout Hall. The training integrated mini-lectures, small group discussions, and hands-on practice for a holistic approach to theory and practical skills. Pre-test and post-tests, along with simulation observations, evaluated the training's effectiveness. Results showed a significant increase in average scores from 50.83 (pre-test) to 86.25 (post-test, p < 0.0001, Wilcoxon Test), with 66.7% of participants achieving “very good” status post-training (compared to 13.3% pre-training). This training enhanced not only participant knowledge and skills but also fostered collaboration among DIY Regional Scouts, health institutions, and academia.

The activity was carried out using interactive education methods (storytelling, singing, halal logo demonstrations) at TK Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Panongan 1. The results of the activity showed an increase in children's understanding of halal food concepts and the Indonesian halal logo. The interactive education conducted proved to be effective, engaging, and able to help children remember the halal concept in a fun way.
