Abstract

This article explores the practice of the humanistic approach in counseling within Vocational High Schools (SMK) as a strategy to support the authentic formation of adolescent identity. Through a qualitative study involving in-depth interviews with students and Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers, the findings reveal that counselors’ attitudes of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness play a pivotal role in establishing a safe and reflective relationship. Counselors who present themselves as authentic, honest, and egalitarian individuals are able to build trust and facilitate deep self-reflection among students. These findings reinforce the relevance of the humanistic approach in assisting vocational students who are experiencing identity crises due to social pressures and uncertainties about their future. The study also highlights the importance of corrective emotional experiences within the counseling process and recommends further research with broader scope and diverse methodological approaches to strengthen the generalizability of the findings. This article makes a significant contribution to the development of humanistic-based counseling theory and practice that emphasizes adolescents’ personal functioning and authenticity.

Abstract

Student academic performance is not only determined by cognitive abilities, but also influenced by social and emotional factors. One such factor is the influence of peers and the mood experienced by students during the learning process. This study aims to determine the influence of peer influence and mood on academic performance. The study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The sample consisted of 258 students selected through simple random sampling from a population of 719 students. The instruments used were the peer influence scale, mood scale, and academic performance scale, which were developed based on theoretical indicators and validated through expert judgment. The reliability of the instruments was tested using Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, with results of 0.887 for peer influence, 0.927 for mood, and 0.890 for academic performance, indicating high reliability. The data analysis techniques used were multiple linear regression, t-test, and F-test. The research results showed that peer influence had a positive and significant effect on academic performance, while mood had a negative and significant effect. Simultaneously, both variables contributed 54% to academic performance. Thus, it can be concluded that the positive influence of peers contributes to improving students' academic performance, while negative moods have the potential to decrease academic performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between career entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention among vocational high school students, as well as to identify factors supporting the development of entrepreneurship programs in vocational schools. The research method used a quantitative approach with a questionnaire adapted from the entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial self-efficacy scales, involving 276 vocational high school students in Malang City. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tests, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Pearson correlation with the assistance of JASP and SPSS software. The results of the study indicate that vocational high school students have a fairly high level of entrepreneurial intention, with behavioral control perception as the most dominant aspect. Career entrepreneurial self-efficacy is also relatively high, particularly in human resource management and business planning. Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between career entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention, although other factors also influence this relationship. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening students' self-confidence through integrated entrepreneurship programs, including financial literacy training, mentor guidance, and industry collaboration. This study recommends the development of a more comprehensive entrepreneurship learning model in vocational schools, considering affective aspects, practical skills, and ecosystem support to produce graduates who are ready to become entrepreneurs.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the KIPAS Counseling Model rooted in Bugis pappaseng to improve the interpersonal competence of university students. This model was designed using the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) framework. Data were collected through questionnaires, expert validation, pretest–posttest design, observation, and focus group discussions, with 60 students and five experts (counseling lecturers and cultural experts) participating. The results showed significant improvements in five dimensions of interpersonal competence: effective communication, positive interaction, understanding self and others, appreciation and empathy, and social solidarity. The overall average score increased from 61.2 (moderate category) to 81.3 (high category), with a t-value = 14.27, p < 0.001, and a large effect size (Cohen's d = 1.25). Qualitative data supported these results, where students reported increased self-confidence, deeper empathy, and stronger social ties after participating in culture-based counseling. Practically, the KIPAS Model offers a counseling framework that is contextual, sustainable, and relevant to students' needs, while revitalizing the value of local wisdom. Academically, this research contributes to the development of cross-cultural counseling literature and demonstrates that local wisdom can be the foundation for modern counseling innovation. The KIPAS Model also has the potential to be replicated and adapted to other cultural contexts in Indonesia, thereby strengthening multicultural education in higher education.

Abstract

The concept of growth mindset has gained widespread attention in educational discourse as a tool to enhance students’ motivation, well-being, and academic success. However, the implementation of growth mindset interventions often emphasizes behavioral outcomes while neglecting the deeper philosophical foundations that shape students' sense of self, purpose, and well-being. This paper presents the ontological, epistemological, and axiological domains of growth mindset interventions by reviewing the primary and secondary relevant literatures. A thorough examination of these philosophical dimensions enables practitioners to more effectively integrate the principles of growth mindset interventions into their professional practice.

Abstract

The phenomenon of toxic relationships among university students has increasingly attracted attention due to its serious impact on mental health, particularly on self-esteem and psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and psychological well-being among students who are victims of toxic relationships. The research employed a quantitative correlational method involving 71 students selected through incidental sampling. Data were collected using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale (RPWBS). Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 22 for Windows. The results revealed a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and psychological well-being (r = 0.615; p<0.01). This finding indicates that the higher the students’ self-esteem, the higher their level of psychological well-being, even when experiencing unhealthy relationships. The study emphasizes the importance of strengthening self-esteem and providing social support as crucial efforts to maintain and enhance the psychological well-being of students trapped in toxic relationships.

Abstract

Students’ learning problems in schools are issues that require serious attention from all stakeholders, particularly school counselors. Various factors contribute to the learning difficulties experienced by students today. Changes in curriculum, educational systems, and technological developments have significantly influenced the nature of students’ learning problems. In addition, challenges in other domains such as personal, social, and even career-related aspects also affect students’ academic functioning. These learning problems consistently appear every year, making them recurring challenges that school counselors must address in their service delivery, both now and in the future. Drawing from the experiences of school counselors in managing and providing services related to students’ learning difficulties, this study focuses on exploring the challenges of learning problems faced by junior high school students from the counselors’ perspectives. A qualitative research method with a phenomenological design was employed, involving school counselors with more than five years of professional experience. The data obtained were then analyzed in depth to answer the central research question regarding the challenges of student learning problems in the digital era. The findings indicate that in the current digital era, the primary underlying factor contributing to students’ learning problems is low learning motivation. This condition is influenced by excessive use of social media and online games. Another contributing factor is students’ perception that learning is unimportant, along with the belief that studying is a boring activity. These issues highlight the need for serious attention from all relevant parties, as low learning motivation among students must be addressed as a priority.

Abstract

Career decision-making is a process of selecting alternatives that must be undertaken by each individual by considering their abilities, potential, talents, and interests in accordance with their field. This skill is essential for senior high school students to determine their career direction, set clear goals, and commit to implementing the decisions they make. This study aims to describe the career decision-making abilities of students and to examine the effectiveness of group counseling using the Motivational Interviewing technique in improving these abilities. The research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, involving 8 respondents out of a total of 94 eleventh-grade students. Feasibility tests conducted by experts and practitioners indicated that the model met the scientific criteria for guidance and counseling and was deemed suitable for use by school counselors. The trial results showed an increase in career decision-making scores from 163 (pretest) to 206.5 (posttest), representing a 26.7% improvement. These findings demonstrate that the Motivational Interviewing technique in group counseling is effective as an intervention to significantly enhance students’ career decision-making abilities. It is recommended that school counselors consider adopting this technique as part of their career guidance programs to support students in making well-informed career choices.

Abstract

The rapid emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has led to the creation of "griefbots" and "digital afterlife" technologies, which simulate interaction with the deceased. This development raises critical, unexamined questions about its impact on bereavement within established religious frameworks. This paper aims to analyze the theopsychological and ethical implications of these technologies from the perspective of Islamic counseling. This study employs a qualitative, library-based research design. It conducts a thematic and comparative analysis of two distinct bodies of literature: classical Islamic texts on spiritual psychology and contemporary academic literature on the psychological and ethical dimensions of grief technology. The findings reveal a profound conflict between the function of griefbots and the Islamic framework for grief. The technology's "illusion of continuity" fundamentally contradicts the core Islamic principle of accepting God's decree (qadr), thus impeding healthy mourning. Furthermore, the artificial dependency fostered by these simulations undermines the spiritual practice of reliance on God (tawakkul), replacing it with a technological surrogate. From an ethical perspective based on the objectives of Islamic law (maq??id al-shar??ah), the technology is identified as a potential source of harm (mafsadah) to an individual's faith and intellect. The study concludes that AI-driven grief technologies are spiritually and psychologically incongruent with a healthy Islamic grieving process. This necessitates the development of a specialized therapeutic approach. The primary implication is the proposed Islamic counseling framework, which provides practical, theologically grounded strategies for guiding individuals away from digital illusions and toward authentic spiritual healing.
