Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in fostering religious tolerance among students at SMKN 1 Palabuhanratu. In the context of Indonesia's multicultural and multireligious society, the role of PAI teachers is crucial in instilling the values of moderate Islam (wasathiyah), which emphasizes respect for diversity. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using data collection techniques such as observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with three Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers and ten students. The findings reveal that PAI teachers perform four main roles: as demonstrators, classroom managers, facilitators, and mediators. They serve as role models in tolerant behavior, create inclusive classroom environments, facilitate interfaith discussions, and address potential conflicts through dialogic and solution-oriented approaches. The teaching practices implemented include group discussions, case studies, interfaith activities, and the use of contextual learning media related to diversity issues. Teachers also collaborate with parents and interfaith leaders to extend the reach of character education promoting tolerance beyond the school setting. These findings affirm that religious education grounded in universal human values can serve as an effective instrument in shaping open-minded individuals able to live harmoniously in a pluralistic society. Therefore, strengthening the competencies of PAI teachers and adopting multicultural approaches in education are key to fostering social cohesion and peace amid Indonesia's diversity.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the integration of Islamic values and local wisdom in shaping the practice of tolerance between religions at the family and community levels. Studies of religious moderation in Indonesia have so far emphasized the role of the state and formal institutions, while the practice of tolerance that grows naturally in the family and local culture is still relatively understudied. This research is located in Gunung Malang Village, Sumberjambe District, Jember Regency, a multicultural village known for having a harmonious social life without open religious conflicts. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The data was collected through in-depth interviews with 12 informants consisting of religious leaders, traditional leaders, village officials, and interfaith families. Participatory observation was carried out for four months to capture the daily social practices of the community. Data analysis was carried out thematically using the help of NVivo 12 software until it reached the data saturation point. The results of the study show that there are three main patterns of tolerance, namely: (1) Negotiation of religious values in interfaith families, (2) Interfaith social participation in life cycle events such as marriage and death, and (3) Social solidarity based on mutual cooperation. This pattern reflects the integration of Islamic values such as rahmah, justice and ukhuwah insaniyah with local wisdom in the form of kinship systems and village deliberations. This research contributes to formulating a model of tolerance based on family and local culture as a contextual and sustainable form of religious moderation.

Abstract

This study discusses the increasingly alarming issue of moral decadence among adolescents, triggered by technological developments and a lack of strong moral guidance in Islamic educational institutions. The purpose of this study is to describe the concept of moral formation from the perspective of al-Uṣūl al-Islāmiyyah by Ahmad Fu'ad al-Ahwānī and its implementation at MA NU Nahdlatul Fata Petekeyan. The method used is a descriptive approach. -Tarbiyah al-Islāmiyyah by Ahmad Fu'ad al-Ahwānī and its implementation at MA NU Nahdlatul Fata Petekeyan. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach, supported by a quantitative survey, to obtain an empirical picture of the application of Islamic educational values in shaping student character. Al-Ahwānī's theory emphasizes the three main pillars of Islamic education, namely tauhid, akhlak, and amal as a unity that shapes pious individuals. The results of this study show that these values are instilled through the formation of habits, teacher role models, and religious activities in madrasas, which foster students' spiritual, moral, and social awareness. The conclusion of this study confirms that the concept of al-Uṣūl at-Tarbiyah al-Islāmiyyah is relevant and can be applied as a solution to the decline in youth morals, as it helps create a balance between faith, knowledge, and deeds in the Islamic education system.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the integration of the Snakes and Ladders game as an innovative strategy in Diniyyah learning in Islamic boarding schools. The research background is based on the need for contemporary 21st-century learning that is more interactive, engaging, and effective in increasing student involvement in understanding religious material. The type of research used is R&D (Research and Development), by adopting the ADDIE development model to produce learning media products. The results show that integrating the Snakes and Ladders game with several Diniyyah lessons, such as Tajwid, Nahwu, Shorof, and Fiqh, can increase learning motivation, strengthen the understanding of basic religious and scientific concepts, and foster positive interactions between students. This media integration is also in line with the gamification approach that emphasises active and collaborative learning experiences. Thus, the snakes and ladders game can be used as an alternative, creative learning medium that is relevant to improving the quality of Diniyyah learning in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The discourse on the implementation of Deep Learning in the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum aims to shift education from memorization to critical thinking and in-depth understanding. However, in the field, educators face obstacles due to the lack of technical models, especially in religious education, which prioritizes memorization. This study aims to design a community-based Deep Learning model for multicultural theological education, to bridge understanding. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall model, through ten stages of development, including product revisions and field trials to ensure the model's feasibility. The study subjects comprised 22 elementary schools in Purwakarta, West Java, selected purposively. Data collection techniques included a questionnaire survey with 132 respondents (teachers and principals), interviews with 44 Islamic Religious Education teachers, and classroom observations. Quantitative analysis used descriptive statistics and paired t-tests, combined with qualitative analysis. The results showed that the community-based Deep Learning model effectively improved students' critical thinking skills and in-depth understanding of multicultural theology, with an average score increase of 28% compared to conventional learning. It is recommended that this model be applied more widely in Islamic Religious Education and that integrated supporting media be developed to facilitate its implementation by teachers.
