Aims Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan purposes to publish original research and reviews articles on tropical veterinary medicine and domesticated animals such as dog, cat, cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, poultry, as well as Indonesian wild life. Scope Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan cover a broad range of research topics in animal production and fundamental aspects of genetics, reproduction, socioeconomic of livestock, nutrition, physiology, and preparation and utilization of animal products. Articles typically report research with beef cattle, goats, horses, pigs, and sheep; however, studies involving other farm animals, aquatic and wildlife species, endangered animals, and laboratory animal species that address fundamental questions related to livestock and companion animal biology will be considered for publication.

Abstract

The semen of Simmental bull is widely used for artificial insemination. The purpose of this research was to determine the most ideal semen collection time to obtain the best production and quality of Simmental bull semen. The materials used were fresh semen from 11 Simmental bulls collected at various times between 07.00-09.00 WIB and 09.00-11.00 WIB. The method used in this study was a case study utilizing data from semen collection in July 2023 based on records of semen production and quality of Simmental bulls at the Lembang Artificial Insemination Center. The observed parameters were macroscopic characteristics such as volume, color, pH, consistency, frozen semen production (straw), and microscopic characteristics such as concentration, motility, and post-thawing motility (PTM) of frozen semen. The results showed that different semen collection times affect the volume and production (straw) obtained, but there was no effect on color, pH, consistency, concentration, motility, and post-thawing motility (PTM) parameters. The conclusion of this study is that the semen collection time from 07:00 to 09:00 AM WIB results in better volume and production (straw) of frozen semen compared to the collection time from 09:00 to 11:00 AM WIB

Abstract

Sexual behavior of Bali bulls can be expose of libido. The aim of this study was to determine the differences in sexual behavior of Bali bulls with different ages in Kaung Bali Business. The study was conducted for 2 months, from August to September 2023 at the Kaung Bali Business located in Banjar Tegenan, Menanga Village, Rendang District, Karangasem Regency, Bali Province. The design used in this study was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 4 replications. Treatment 1 (T1) I2 Bali bulls (2-3 years old), treatment 2 (T2) I3 Bali bulls (3-4 years old), and treatment 3 (T3) I4 Bali bulls (> 4 years old). Each treatment was repeated 4 times and each replication consisted of 1 Bali bull. The variables observed in this study were sexual behavior, namely the length of time making out, the duration of appearance of flehmen, the length of libido, and the time of ejaculation. The results showed that the length of making out (second) T1 (41.00), T2 (21.75), and T3 (30.00); the duration of appearance of flehmen (second) T1 (21.75), T2 (9.75), T3 (16.00); the length of libido (second) T1 (41.00), T2 (21.50), T3 (30.00); and the ejaculation time (second) T1 (54.25), T2 (43.00), T3 (52.50); each variable showed significantly different results (P<0,05). The conclusion of this research is the sexual behavior of Bali bull males at the age of 3-4 years or (I3) with a time of making out of 21.50 seconds, a time of onset of flehmen of 9.75 seconds, a time of libido of 21.50 seconds, and a time of ejaculation of 43.00. second. Showed the best results, and this means that age influences the sexual behavior of Bali bull.

Abstract

The level of adoption Artificial Inseminatioan (AI) can be influenced by the characteristics of farmer in raising Bali cattle. This research aims to determine the level of adoption of artificial insemination (AI) and the influence of the characteristics of Bali cattle farmers on the adoption of AI in the Rendang District, Karangasem Regency. This study is a survey with 90 farmer respondents. The type of research is quantitative explanatory aimed at explaining the relationship and influence of each variabel. The data sources used are primary and secondary data. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis used in this study is multiple linear regression aimed at determining the influence of farmer characteristic variabels (independent) on the level of adoption of AI (dependent). The research results show that the adoption rate of AI by Bali cattle farmers in the Rendang District, based on knowledge, interest, evaluation, trial, and implementation of AI technology is high at 86.8%. The influence of Bali cattle farmers characteristics on the adoption of AI in terms of non-formal education (X1) is 11.62%, farming experience (X2) is 14.70%, the number of livestock ownership (X3) is 26.05%, and the number of family dependents (X4) is 18.94% on the adoption of AI. The conclusion of this study is that the adoption rate of AI by farmers in the Rendang District is relatively high and is significantly influenced by the number of livestock ownership (X3) at 26.05%.

Abstract

Empty oil palm fruit bunches (OPEFB) have the potential as ruminant livestock feed, but their quality needs to be improved. This study evaluated the effectiveness of fermentation ammonia technology with EM-4 and cattle rumen fluid in improving the nutritional quality and digestibility of OPEFB in vitro. The study used a randomized block design (RBD) with four treatments and six replications: P0 (2 kg OPEFB), P1 (2 kg OPEFB + 40 g urea + 60 ml molasses), P2 (2 kg OPEFB + 40 g urea + 60 ml molasses + 60 ml EM-4), and P3 (2 kg OPEFB + 40 g urea + 60 ml molasses + 60 ml cattle rumen fluid). Descriptive statistical analysis was performed on the content of crude fiber (CF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and hemicellulose. Dry matter digestibility (DMDi) and organic matter digestibility (OMDi) were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's test at the 5% level. The results showed that the P2 treatment decreased the content of CF, NDF, ADF, and hemicellulose descriptively. The decrease in fiber components in treatments P1, P2, and P3 compared to the control (P0) showed the effectiveness of fermentation ammoniation in improving feed quality. Treatment P2 significantly increased DMDi and OMDi in vitro compared to other treatments (P<0.05). Treatments P1 and P3 also increased digestibility compared to P0, although not as high as P2. In conclusion, fermentation ammoniation technology with EM-4 and rumen fluid in OPEFB can decrease the content of CF, NDF, ADF, and hemicellulose, and increase DFM and OMF compared to the control.

Abstract

One disease that often occurs in goats is mange. Scabies is an ectoparasitic skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge, skills, and attitudes of breeders in handling scabies in goats in Majene Regency. The sampling method uses a non-probability sampling method, namely a sampling technique that does not provide equal opportunities for each element or member of the population to be selected as a sample. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The population in this study consisted of goat breeders in Tubo Sendana District and Banggae District, Majene Regency with a population of 583 breeders and a sample size of 85 people. The results of the study showed that the highest percentage of goat breeders' knowledge regarding scabies management was in the medium criteria, namely 55.3%, the highest percentage of breeders' skills was in the medium criteria, namely 50.6% and the highest percentage in the breeders' attitude category was in the medium criteria, namely 48.2%.

Abstract

Young coconut water (CW) can be used as a diluent which can provide nutrients and other protective substances for the life of spermatozoa. Egg yolk is one of the important components in semen diluent, because it has a very important role in protecting the plasma membrane and acrosome during storage. The aim of this research was to determine the best type of egg yolk in combination with young coconut water to maintain liquid semen quality of Bali cattle. This research used a complete random design consisting of 6 treatments and 5 replications. The basal diluent in all treatments was 80 percent of CW combined with 20 percent chicken egg yolk (C), duck egg yolk (D), quail egg yolk (Q). The treatments in question are P0= CW-C, P1= CW-D, P2= CW-PQ, P3= CW-CD, P4= CW-CQ, and P5= CW-CDQ. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Duncan tests. Until the 6th day of storage, the P3 treatment produced higher semen quality than the control (P<0.05) except that the sperm abnormality variable showed no significant difference (P>0.05). On the other hand, treatment P3 showed no significant difference from treatments P1, P2, P4, and P5 (P>0.05). The quality of Bali cattle semen up to the sixth day of storage in treatment P3 was: 42.00%. 48.76%, 5.71%, 6.2 days respectively for the variables motility, viability, abnormalities and sperm survival. The results of this study concluded that a combination of chicken and duck egg yolks added to coconut water is the best diluent that can maintain the quality of Bali cattle sperm.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of skim milk diluent and lactate ringer on the motility and fertility of kampung rooster spermatozoa. The material used was fresh chicken spermatozoa from 12 kampung rooster aged 1-1.5 years, 60 commercial laying hens at 90 weeks of age, skim milk, lactate ringer, and destilate water. This study used 2 research designs, Randomized Block Design to test motility and Completely Randomized Design to test fertility with 6 types of treatment. The treatments given were P0 = skim milk; P1=skim milk 20%+lactate ringer 80%; P2=skim milk 60%+lactate ringer 40%; P3=skim milk 40%+lactate ringer 60%; P4=skim milk 20%+lactate ringer 80%; P5 = lactate ringer. The data was analyzed using analysis of variance, then if there was a significant influence or different then a follow up test was carried out for Honest Significant Difference test was carried out. The ANOVA results showed that the combination of skim milk and Ringer's lactate diluent had a significant effect (P<0,05) on motility and no significant effect (P>0,05) on fertility. The research results showed that the highest motility value was in treatment P5= 89,75% and the lowest was in treatment P0= 82%. The highest fertility value was in treatment P0= 62,64% and the lowest was in treatment P2= 29,53%. The conclusion of this study was that Ringer lactate diluent had the highest motility value compared to other treatments, while the overall fertility value for all treatments was the same.

Abstract

Meatballs are ground beef products that use tapioca flour. This flour can be replaced with purple sweet potato flour (Ipomea Batatas L.) which is rich in antioxidants and nutrients such as vitamins A, C, fiber, iron, potassium and protein. This study aims to determine the effect of adding purple sweet potato flour (Ipomea Batatas L.) as a substitute for tapioca flour on the physicochemical characteristics of beef meatballs. Physical parameters tested included water binding capacity, pH, cooking shrinkage, color, and texture, as well as chemical tests such as protein content. The research was conducted in March and April 2024 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Mulawarman University. This research design uses a complete randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replicates which include: P0 (100% tapioca flour, no purple sweet potato flour), P1 (75% tapioca flour, 25 purple sweet potato flour), P2 (50% tapioca flour, 50% purple sweet potato flour), P3 (25% tapioca flour, 75% purple sweet potato flour), P4 (no tapioca flour, 100% purple sweet potato flour). The results of the analysis of beef meatballs with the addition of purple sweet potato flour as a substitute for tapioca flour had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on pH value, cooking shrinkage, brightness color value (L *), reddish color value (a *), and yellowish color value (b *), but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on water binding capacity, texture, and protein content. The conclusion of this study is that purple sweet potato flour can be a good alternative for tapioca flour substitution in making beef meatballs with additional benefits in the form of improved nutrition and functional properties.

Abstract

Haemonchosis is a livestock health problem with a high prevalence in Indonesia which causes decreased production, anemia, huge economic losses and has fatal consequences for young sheep. The most common treatment and prevention of worms is the use of broad-spectrum chemical anthelmintics, but if used continuously it can result in resistance and residues to livestock products which are a serious threat to livestock production. This study aims to determine the effect of avocado seed powder (Persea americana Mill) on the mortality of Haemonchus contortus worms in sheep in vitro. This study used 5 treatments of Haemonchus contortus worms with 3 replications, consisting of P1 (Physiological NaCl) as a negative control, P2 (25% avocado seed powder), P3 (50% avocado seed powder), P4 (75% avocado seed powder). , and P5 (Albendazole) as positive control. Data were analyzed using One Way Annova analysis with SPSS 20. The results showed that avocado seed powder can be used as a natural anthelmintic with 100% worm mortality at a dose of 75% because contain tanin 6,40% w/w

Abstract

The total number of broiler chickens in Sukoharjo district was 9,134,244, with the overall provincial production in Central Java reaching 225,048,936. The quality indicators of broiler meat include water content, soluble protein and cooking shrinkage of the meat. The research was conducted in a modern market located in Sukoharjo district from Superindo, Transmat, Lottemart and Hypermart markets. Samples taken were breast part and sampled using the RAL method. The observed variables were drip loss, cooking loss, soluble protein and fat lavels.The data were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan's multiple range test (DMRT). The results of the study on broiler meat in different markets were found to be significantly different (P < 0.01) for dripping loss, cooking loss and soluble protein. However, no difference was observed in meat fat content (P > 0.05).The findings of the study indicate that the quality of broiler meat in modern markets in Sukoharjo district has an impact on drip loss, cooking loss and soluble protein, but not to any significant extent on fat lavels.
