Abstract

Due to the regulation prohibiting the use of Antibiotic Growth Promoters (AGP), it is essential to explore alternative solutions for feed additives in the broiler industry. One promising approach is to utilize herbal plants as feed additives to enhance the performance and quality of broilers. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of herbal plant-based feed additives, specifically fermented garlic, cinnamon, and betel leaves, on the performance and quality of broiler carcasses. This study employed a completely randomized design (CRD) featuring four treatments and five replications. For a duration of 30 days, the treatments administered to the broilers included: P0 (control), P1 (herbal concoction at 1.5 ml per 500 ml of water), P2 (herbal concoction at 2.5 ml per 500 ml of water), and P3 (herbal concoction at 3.5 ml per 500 ml of water). The variables measured in this study included feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion. The administration of herbal medicine did not have a significant effect (P > 0.05) on feed consumption, body weight gain, or feed conversion in broilers. However, the level of herbal medicine administration showed some trends: P3 (3.5 ml herbal medicine per 500 ml of water) was associated with better feed consumption and body weight gain, while P2 (2.5 ml herbal medicine per 500 ml of water) indicated a tendency for improved feed conversion.

Abstract

This research aims to exploit the potential of sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) as a bioacaricide on Boophilus microplus ticks. This research used a completely randomized design method with ticks as the research object. There were five treatments in this study, two of which were in the positive control group (Kututox) and negative control (Aquades), and three treatments in the group were given sappan wood infusion with concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Each treatment consisted of 5 replications, each replication using five ticks. The sappan wood infusion bioacaricide test was carried out in vitro, and tick death was observed for 5 hours with observation time every hour after spraying. The data obtained were analyzed using one-way variance, followed by the LSD test. Then, a probit analysis of LC50 and LC90 was performed to determine the concentration of sappan wood infusion that can kill ticks, and LT50 and LT90 were used to determine the time of death of B. microplus ticks. The research results showed that sappan wood infusion with a concentration of 75% effectively killed 50% of Boophilus microplus ticks at 0.67 hours and killed 90% of Boophilus microplus ticks at 1.17 hours. Sappan wood infusion can be an alternative bioacaricide to kill Boophilus microplus ticks

Abstract

Turkey is a poultry with high economic value, an animal protein resource with high nutrition. Limitations in natural mating cause the small population of turkeys in Indonesia. Therefore, artificial insemination will be a solution to this problem. This research aims to know the diluent effectivity of ringer lactate and egg yolk to preserve turkey’s liquid semen stored at a temperature of 4 °C. The fresh semen from 2 bronze breed turkeys, ages 8 and 12 months, was collected with massage method. This research uses a complete randomized design with four treatment groups for each storage period: T0= storage for 0 hours, T1 = storage for 24 hours, T2 = storage for 48 hours, and T4 = storage for 72 hours with six repetitions for each group. The parameters observed from fresh semen are volume, color, pH, consistency, mass movement, motility, viability, and abnormality. The fresh semen was processed into liquid semen using ringer lactate egg yolk diluent with a ratio of 4:1 and then stored at a temperature of 4 °C. The parameters observed from liquid semen are motility, viability, abnormality, and recovery rate. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance, and in case there were significant differences between treatments, the test was continued with the Duncan test. The results showed that ringer lactate egg yolk diluent can preserve turkey’s liquid semen quality until storage for 48 hours. We can conclude the turkey’s liquid semen in ringer lactate egg yolk diluent can be used for artificial insemination maximum of 48 hours of storage.

Abstract

Turkey is a kind of poultry with a special meat taste and higher meat protein than other poultry meat. Indonesia have limited turkey’s population because they has problem in reproduction efficiency is significant different in body weigh between male and female. Artificial insemination practices can be a solution for turkey’s reproduction efficiency problem. However, artificial insemination needs spermatozoa with good quality to fertilize the ovum. The individual gobbler (male turkey) could produce semen with different quality even though kept in same environtment condition. This study aim to evaluate individual variation impact to turkeys fresh semen quality. The fresh semen collected from 4 turkeys bronze breed in 8-12 months age, with massage technique two times a week. The macroscopic (volume, pH, colour, consistency) and microscopic (concentration, motility, viability, abnormality) examination become the observed variables. The result shows there are individual variation in variables are volume, pH, and sperm concentration from fresh semen. The result of this study can provide basic information about turkey’s fresh semen quality with individual variation.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the significance of daidzein as a phytoestrogen with potential to enhance livestock reproductive performance, while its availability in conventional feed ingredients remains limited. Alysicarpus vaginalis is a local legume species exhibiting relatively high phenolic and flavonoid compounds, including isoflavones, making this information crucial for developing phytogenic based functional feed. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of varying phosphorus fertilizer doses on daidzein isoflavone content in Alysicarpus vaginalis. An experimental study was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five phosphorus dose treatments (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 kg P/ha) and three replications. The methodology included: (1) isoflavone extraction via 70% ethanol maceration, (2) extract concentration using a rotary evaporator, and (3) quantitative analysis of daidzein content in phosphorus fertilized Alysicarpus vaginalis using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Increasing phosphorus doses (0–40 kg P/ha) significantly (P<0.05) elevated daidzein content from 0.0922 g/100 g sample (control, 0 kg P/ha) to 2.9978 g/100 g sample at the highest dose (40 kg P/ha). Statistical analysis revealed a strong positive correlation between phosphorus dosage and daidzein accumulation (R² = 0.985). Phosphorus fertilizer application enhances daidzein production in Alysicarpus vaginalis, implying potential for functional feed development to support livestock health and productivity.
