Abstract

Hypertension is still the largest disease in Central Java Province in the first quarter of 2023 at 63%. Various efforts to reduce mortality and morbidity due to hypertension have been carried out on a massive scale. The success of treating hypertension is influenced by a number of factors. An example of factors that have an impact is the patient's level of knowledge and understanding of hypertension and patient compliance in undergoing treatment. Knowledge and understanding are very necessary for patients to understand what to do and avoid so that treatment is successful. Compliance with hypertension treatment is important to monitor blood pressure and avoid complications. The research was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between the level of knowledge and compliance with the use of antihypertensive drugs at UNS Sukoharjo Hospital. The study carried out was a cross-sectional type of research using a questionnaire. Compliance was measured using ARMS (Adherence to Refills and Medication Scale). The sampling technique used is purposive sampling which has inclusion provisions: patients who seek treatment in January-March 2024, undergo routine examinations. The number of samples that met the inclusion and exclusion requirements was 178 patients. Data analysis carried out the Spearman rank correlation test. The study findings show that patients who have a poor level of knowledge about hypertension and its treatment are 4.5%, a sufficient level of understanding is 28.1% and a good level of understanding is 67.4%. The level of patient compliance in using antihypertensive drugs in the low category was 62.4% and in the high category was 37.6%. The results of the Spearman rank correlation test obtained a p value of 0.000 (<0.05) which has a correlation value of 0.262. This indicates that there is a relationship with weak correlation strength on the level of knowledge and compliance in using antihypertensive drugs in the outpatient installation of UNS Sukoharjo Hospital.

Abstract

The extract of roselle flowers contains flavonoid and phenolic components, which function as antioxidants that inhibit free radicals, proving beneficial in avoiding skin degeneration. The antioxidant properties of roselle flowers can be included into cosmetic compositions, including lotions. This study aims to create an optimal lotion formulation by adjusting the quantities of the emulsifiers Olivem®900, Cetearyl alcohol, and TEGO®Care 165. The base formula was optimized using the Box-Behnken Design as an experimental framework, facilitated by Design-Expert version 13.05.0 software. The evaluated response factors comprised pH, viscosity, and spreadability. The formulation was maintained at ambient temperature for 28 days and subsequently evaluated using GraphPad Prism version 10.4.0 software. The base optimization method utilized 15 recommended formulations, determining that the optimal base formula comprises 1.6% Olivem®900, 4.2% Cetearyl alcohol, and 9% TEGO®Care 165, achieving a desirability value of 1. The optimal formula layer derived was the foundation of the lotion including roselle flower extract. The results of the stability test analyzed statistically using the t-test showed differences in the pH test which had a significant effect (p<0.05) between the optimum formula of lotion base and the optimum formula of rosella flower extract lotion, but had no significant effect (p>0.05) on the viscosity test and the spreadability test. The results of the analysis using the t-test showed a significance value of p>0.05, which means that the preparation is statistically stable during the storage period.

Abstract

Telang flowers (Clitoria ternatea L.) contain polyphenolic compounds with the main component, anthocyanins, which have high antioxidant properties. The application of antioxidants as skin protection agents is made in the form of essence preparations. The purpose of this research is to make a preparation of ethanol extract of telang flower with varying concentrations of butylene glycol to obtain a formula with the best physical quality and stability and has antioxidant activity. The ethanol extract of telang flower was obtained from the maceration process using 70% ethanol solvent, then the essence formula was made with variations in the concentration of butylene glycol as a humectant, namely 5%; 7,5%; 10%. Physical quality test of essence preparation includes organoleptical observation, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, and stability test using Freeze-Thaw method. Testing the antioxidant activity of essence preparations using the DPPH method. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS. The results of the research show that the ethanol extract of telang flower can be made into an essence preparation with good physical quality, where variations in the concentration of butylene glycol affect the viscosity of the preparation, namely the higher the concentration of butylene glycol, the thicker the resulting essence preparation. The formula with a concentration of 5% butylene glycol, has good physical quality, is stable in organoleptic and homogeneity and has antioxidant activity against DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radicals.

Abstract

Bacterial Cell Wall (BCW) is an essential part of bacteria. Defects in BCW may lead to bacterial death due to failure in maintaining pressure and cell integrity or shape. Penicillin-Binding Protein (PBP) 2a, 1, 2, 3, and 4 are proteins responsible for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) cell wall synthesis. MRSA is a hard-to-treat bacteria due to its antibiotic resistance. Clerodendrum squamatum Vahl. leaves (CSVL) are used by North Sulawesi-Indonesian people as a medicinal plant to treat inflammation and to heal wounds. So, the present study aims to explore CSVL potential as inhibitors of MRSA cell wall synthesis using in silico approach. CSVL phytoconstituents were analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC- MS), and the chemical structures were retrieved from PubChem and docked to PBP2a, PBP1, PBP2, PBP3, and PBP4 using Pyrx-Vina. The toxicity profile of the phytoconstituents was also calculated. The results showed that CSVL interacts with PBPs with a variety of types of bonding, dominated by hydrogen bonds. The toxicity prediction showed that CSVL has a safe toxicity profile. CSVL can be a good anti-MRSA candidate due to its molecular interactions with BCW synthesis proteins. Keywords: MRSA, antibiotic resistance, medicinal plant, PBPs
