Abstract

Java chili fruit (Piper Retroofactum Vahl.) can be used in concoctions to treat fever, flatulence, heartburn, vomiting, overcome digestive disorders, stimulate appetite. In the traditional medicine industry in Indonesia, Java chili is one of the most needed raw materials, 9.5% of the total simplicia. Javanese chilies are round and dark green to brown in color. The content of the main secondary metabolites in chili plants is piperine, pipernaline, guineensine and essential oils. The purpose of this study was to determine the piperine content isolated from Java chili using the HPLC method. The column used is a C-18 type column, 2489 UV/Visible detector light. The mobile phase used was Acetonitrile : Methanol : Aquabidest (65:5:30) v/v. The isolation results obtained yield of 0.20% piperine isolate has a spicy taste, needle-shaped blackish brown color, difficult to dissolve in water and easily soluble in ethanol.From the results of the assay, the piperine content data was obtained at 37.48%

Abstract

The gastrointestinal tract facilitates the primary function of the body, such as food digestion and absorption. Disruption of the process will lead to digestive tract disorder. One disorder of the digestive tract is diarrhea. Diarrhea is a condition of loose and watery stool that excretes more frequently than normal, accompanied by abdominal cramps. Herbal plants research as a therapy alternative has been continuing to develop for herbal medicine potential discovery. From the literature study, it was found 9 species of plants have activity to inhibit diarrhea based on in vivo study. This article will expose the various natural properties found in Indonesia.

Abstract

The presence of preservatives in food is a common thing to extend the shelf life of foods. The bad effects appliying chemical preservatives cause both environmental pollution and health disturbing. Consuming chemical preservatives for a long time will will cause cancer. Natural preservatives is needed to reducing the bad effects. One of the Plants can be applied as natural preservatives is cat root leaves (Acalypha indica L. The study aims were to determine the activity and effective concentration of cat root leaf extract as a natural preservative on tomatoes and to identify the its phytochemical content. Activity of cat root leaf extract as a preservative was subjected by organoleptic, meanwhile the phytochemical content by tube-test. The results showed 8% cat root leaf extract effective as natural preservative according to organoleptic observation with observed time for 20 days. The result of tube-test showed cat root leaf extract contain compounds likes alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tannin, and terpenoid.

Abstract

Randu leaves are used traditionally to relieve fatigue and increase stamina. This study aims to determine the tonic effect of ethanol extract of randu leaves on male Swiss strain white mice. Tonic effect research was carried out using the Natatory Exhaustion method. This study used 5 test groups, namely negative control (CMC Na 0.5%), positive control (caffeine 100 mg/kgBW), ethanol extract of randu leaves with various doses of 500 mg/kgBW, 1000 mg/kgBW and 2000 mg/kgBW. The research results were analyzed using One Way Anova. The results showed that the ethanol extract of randu leaves had a tonic effect on male white mice.

Abstract

Hypertension is an increase in systolic blood pressure more than equal to 140 mmHg and diastolic more than equal to 90 mmHg. Good knowledge must be possessed by people with hypertension in order to better understand the importance of routine blood pressure control and to know the dangers caused if they do not take medication regularly. Compliance with taking antihypertensive medication is very important to increase the effectiveness of treatment and prevent complications. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and medication adherence in hypertensive patients at the Manahan Surakarta Health Center. The method used is an analytic observational method with a cross sectional approach. The instruments used in this study were the HK-LS (Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale) questionnaire and the MMAS-8 (Morisky Medication Adherence) questionnaire to obtain primary data. Data collection was conducted in March 2023 with a sample size of 100 hypertensive patients. Knowledge of hypertension is low knowledge of 8%, moderate knowledge of 23% and high knowledge of 69%. The results of the presentation of medication adherence are low adherence of 16%, moderate adherence of 29%, high adherence of 55%. Based on bivariate analysis using Spearman's rank analysis a correlation coefficient of 0.571 was obtained with a p value of 0.000 <0.05 which means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, that is, there was a significant relationship between knowledge about hypertension and adherence to taking medication in hypertensive patients at the Manahan Surakarta Health Center.

Abstract

White swallow's nest (Collocalia fuchiphaga) is known to have benefits as an antioxidant so it can prevent skin aging. Serum preparations have advantages as skin care cosmetics because they contain active substances in high concentrations, are light and easy to apply. This study aims to make formulations, test physical quality, physical stability, irritation in test animals and test antioxidant activity using the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) as a facial serum containing white swallow's nest (Collocalia fuchiphaga) . In this study, a facial serum formulation containing white swallow's nest (Collocalia fuchiphaga) was prepared with various concentrations of 10%, 20% and 30%. The results showed that the 3 formulations had good physical quality tests based on the results of tests carried out in accordance with the standards. Based on the results of the physical stability test, the test results on pH, spreadability and viscosity showed no change in storage for 28 days. The antioxidant activity test results of the 3 formulations yielded IC50 values ​​of F1 (52.523 ppm), F2 (52.181 ppm), and F3 (51.165 ppm). The formulation of white swallow's nest serum (Collocalia fuchiphaga) does not cause primary irritation to rabbit test animals. Based on the results of the data analyzed statistically with a confidence level of 95%, the data obtained was p> 0.05 so that the 3 formulas showed no significant difference. It can be concluded from this study that facial serum containing white swallow's nest (Collocalia fuchiphaga) can be used as an antiaging preparation and does not irritate the skin.

Abstract

Kirinyuh leaves (Chromolaeina odorata (L.) R.M.King &; H.Rob.) contain secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids, saponins, steiroids, tannins that can inhibit the growth of antibacterial growth. Based or its antibacterial properties, kirinyuh leaf extract can be developed into mouthwash to prevent dental plaque. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical stability test of the kirinyuh leaf ethanol extract mouthwash preparation and to determine the antibacterial activity of the kirinyuh leaf ethanol extract against Streptococcus mutans ATCC 31987 bacteria, so that a  formulation of the kirinyuh leaf ethanol extract mouthwash preparation could be made. Mouthwash is an antiseptic preparation that is used to clean the oral cavity and is used by gargling. The extraction used was remaceration method with 70% ethanol solvent, made in various extracts with concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%. Further evaluation of the preparation includes : organoleptic test, pH test, viscosity test. The results of the One Way ANOVA analysis showed that there was no significant difference in the pH test, viscosity test with a p>0,05 value. Organoleptic test during 6 cycles of storage in a stable state during storage. The results showed that the ethanol extract of kirinyuh leaf mouthwash was able to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria, namely in F1 the weak category was 2.43±0.81 mm, F2 was 10.21±3.56 mm the strong categori, F3 was 13.38±2.72 mm strong category.   Keywords : Antibacterial, Kirinyuh leaves, Mouthwash

Abstract

Nosocomial pneumonia or commonly known as hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) is an infection that occurs in the lung parenchyma caused by pathogens in the hospital. Nosocomial pneumonia is the 6th leading cause of death in Indonesian hospitals with a mortality rate of 20-50%. Nosocomial pneumonia is caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as the gram-negative bacterium Pseduomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. One of the plants that has the potential as an antibacterial is the randu plant (Ceiba pentandra (L.) Gaertn.) because it contains compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of quercetin compounds contained from randu plants using HPLC and to determine the antibacterial activity of randu plants against Pseduomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 by looking at the size of the inhibition zone formed. The method used is the disc diffusion method. The results of this study indicate that the randu leaf extract contains the compound quercetin which is included in the class of flavonoid compounds with a concentration of 2.075%. 5%. The results of testing the antibacterial activity of randu leaf extract against Pseduomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 in the negative control did not form an inhibition zone, the positive control produced an inhibition zone of 29.7 mm, at a concentration of 15%, 25% and 35% produced an inhibition zone of 13.3 mm, 14.6mm and 15.6mm. optimal antibacterial activity is found at a concentration of 15%.

Abstract

The development of cosmetics from natural ingredients has been widely applied in several cosmetic industries, one of the developing cosmetic dosage forms is serum. One of the plants that can be used for serum is randu leaf (Ceiba pentandra (L.) Gaertn.) which contains secondary metabolites including flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins which act as natural antioxidants for antiaging. This study aims to determine the optimum levels of flavonoids in randu leaf extract using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, physical quality of preparations and antioxidant activity in serum preparations using the DPPH method. In determining the levels of flavonoids in the randu leaf extract with concentration series of 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, the results obtained were the optimum concentration of cotton leaf extract in the 60 ppm concentration series, which was 229.3 µg/ml. Then the serum preparation was made, it was found that the serum preparations of randu leaf extract and vitamin C had fulfilled the physical quality test requirements. The antioxidant activity test of serum preparations was continued using the DPPH method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and ascorbic acid as a comparison. The ????????50 value for the randu leaf extract serum preparation was 75.0159 ppm which was classified as having strong antioxidant activity while the vitamin C serum preparation was 4.674 ppm which was classified as having very strong antioxidant activity

Abstract

Bath soap is a skin care cosmetic product that can moisturize and protect the skin from sunlight and dirt that comes from outside. Of the various forms of soap preparations on the market, one type of soap that is currently being produced is in liquid dosage form because its use is more practical and the form is more attractive than other forms of soap. The use of natural ingredients as bath soap has been widely used in several soap products, one of the plants that can be used as an active ingredient in liquid soap is guava leaves. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of guava leaves (Syizigium malaccense L.) in liquid body soap preparations. The method used in this study was extraction using 96% ethanol solvent and the formulation of liquid bath soap was carried out, after which tests were carried out which included organoleptic tests, foam height tests, specific gravity tests, stability tests, and antioxidant activity tests. The results showed that the ethanol extract liquid bath soap of guava leaves is brown in color, liquid in shape, has a characteristic odor, and has a smooth texture. The foam height test result was 2 cm, the specific gravity test result was 1.020 g/mL and the antioxidant activity test result for the guava bol ethanol extract liquid bath soap was 9.6898. The conclusion of this study is that guava leaf extract can be used as a liquid bath soap preparation and has a good inhibitory concentration based on the results.
