Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of age variation on testicular morphometry and spermatozoa motility in cats. A total of 21 male cats were grouped into three age categories (< 1 year, 1–3 years, and 3 years). The testes were collected through an open castration procedure, and their morphometric parameters (length, width, and circumference) were measured. Semen samples were obtained by incising the cauda epididymis of each testis to evaluate its motility level under a light microscope. Data were analyzed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by the Tukey test to identify differences between groups. The results showed that age variation did not cause a significant difference in the morphometric characteristics of the collected testes (P>0.05). However, a significant difference was found in spermatozoa motility levels among the different age groups. It is concluded that age does not affect the physical dimensions of the testis but has a significant influence on the functional quality of spermatozoa. The 1–3 year-old group showed the optimal level of spermatozoa motility compared to the other age groups in this study

Abstract

This study aimed to determine perceptions and factors influencing the community of Boyemare Village, West Sakra Subdistrict, regarding Crossbreed Etawa (PE) goats farming. The method used in this study was a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through structured interviews with 40 respondents. Respondents were determined using purposive sampling. The research results showed that all villagers had knowledge of cultivation PE goats. 90% farmers gained knowledge through community service activities conducted by students. The majority farmers (77,5%) expressed an interest in PE goats farming. The lack of technology for processing feed, milk, and manure is the main challenge for farmers in Boyemare (57.5%). 80% of goats farmers have experienced an economic improvement resulting in a positive impact from PE goats cultivation. We conclude that perception of the Boyemare community about PE goats is positive, as reflected in the improved economy of PE goats farmers in Boyemare Village and factors influencing farmers perceptions of PE goats farming are the relatively high price of PE goats, which has implications for farmers' income and the milk production can be consumed by family members.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of three different forage types on the growth performance of Rex rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), focusing on feed intake, average daily gain (ADG), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). A total of 16 male rabbits aged three months were used in a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments and four replications. The treatments included P0 (100% pellet), P1 (60% pellet + 40% elephant grass), P2 (60% pellet + 40% Leucaena leucocephala leaves), and P3 (60% pellet + 40% Gliricidia sepium leaves). Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test when significant differences were detected. The results showed that forage type had a significant effect (P<0.05) on feed intake, ADG, and FCR. The highest feed intake was observed in P3 (84.58 g/head/day), while the lowest occurred in P0 (71.29 g/head/day). Similarly, the greatest ADG was recorded in P3 (25.43 g/head/day), compared to the lowest value in P0 (17.87 g/head/day). The best (lowest) FCR was also achieved by P3 (3.33), indicating superior feed utilization efficiency relative to the other treatments. In conclusion, the inclusion of high-quality forages, particularly Gliricidia sepium, improved feed intake, growth rate, and feed efficiency in Rex rabbits. The combination of 60% pellet and 40% Gliricidia leaves (P3) is recommended as the most effective dietary formulation to enhance growth performance under intensive production systems.

Abstract

Broiler chickens are one of the leading commodities in Indonesia’s poultry sector. They are known for their rapid growth and high feed-to-meat conversion efficiency. This study aims to analyze the production performance of broiler chickens in a semi-closed house system equipped with the Internet of Things (IoT) compared to a semi-closed house system without IoT. This study aims to analyze the production performance of broiler chickens in a semi-closed house system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) compared to a system without IoT. The research method involved direct observation in Palaran Subdistrict, Samarinda, over six rearing periods (three periods without IoT and three periods with IoT). A sample of 120 birds was randomly selected from a population of 6,000 to measure the variables of feed intake, body weight, mortality, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and Performance Index (PI). The results showed that the use of IoT increased the average harvest weight from 1.67 kg to 1.98 kg and reduced the FCR from 1.59 to 1.52. Mortality initially spiked at the start of IoT implementation (9.45%) due to the system’s adaptation phase, but this figure was successfully reduced to 1.93% by the final period. Overall, the average PI increased significantly by 32.7%, from the “Poor” category (266.7) to the “Very Good” category (354.0). The implementation of IoT technology in semi-closed-house poultry houses effectively improves feed efficiency and broiler production performance after the adaptation phase.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the physical quality of rice straw silage  with the addition of expired sweetened condensed milk regarding color, texture, aroma, presence of mold and pH. The method used in this research was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 3 replications fermented for 21 days. The treatment details are P0: Rice straw + 0% expired sweetened condensed milk + 0% EM4, P1: Rice straw + 3% expired sweetened condensed milk + 1.5 EM4, P2: Rice straw + 6% expired sweetened condensed milk + 1.5% EM4, P3: Rice straw + 9% Expired sweetened condensed milk + 1.5% EM4, P4: Rice straw + 12% Expired sweetened condensed milk + 1.5% EM4. Parameters observed include color, texture, aroma, presence of mold and pH. The results of this study showed that the addition of expired sweetened condensed milk had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the color of rice straw silage. It had a significant effect (P<0.05) on texture and pH, and a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the aroma and presence of rice straw silage mold. The treatment that provides the best physical quality is the addition of 9% expired sweetened condensed milk because it can improve the texture, making it soft, easy to separate with an average value of (3.31) and gives a slightly sour aroma with an average value of (3.55), gives a brownish green color with an average value of (3.58), provides a little mold with an average value of (3.39), and has an influence on pH which shows an average value of (6.00).

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), positioned as a "Big Push Strategy" to eradicate stunting and accelerate human capital development towards the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, introduces an unprecedented demand shock to the national macroeconomic architecture. With a target of 82.9 million beneficiaries and an initial fiscal commitment of Rp71 trillion, the policy mandates the daily provision of massive animal protein, thereby exposing severe structural vulnerabilities within the domestic livestock supply chain. This study evaluates the socio-economic impact of the MBG program on the resilience of local farmers, transitioning the analytical lens from conventional clinical health outcomes to rural agrarian economics. Utilizing an Explanatory Sequential Design, the research integrates macro-statistical time-series data of livestock production and the Farmer's Terms of Trade for the Livestock subsector (NTP-T) with institutional political economy analysis. The findings reveal a critical supply-demand gap, notably an 8.5 million-ton deficit in fresh milk and a structural reliance on beef imports, which forces a policy dilemma between pragmatic mass importation and the philosophical pursuit of food sovereignty. While excessive imports risk marginalizing smallholder farmers and distorting farm-gate prices, decentralized local procurement demonstrates a profound multiplier effect. The NTP-T index recorded a consistent appreciation, peaking at 125.35 points in December 2025, validating that localized fiscal injections via nutrition service units significantly enhance farmers' purchasing power. To mitigate the structural asymmetry of smallholder farming and prevent corporate hegemony, the study concludes that the revitalization of Village Unit Cooperatives (KUD) and the implementation of the People's Animal Husbandry School (SPR) model are imperative. Policy recommendations emphasize mandatory local sourcing quotas, menu flexibility, and targeted capital expenditures for cold chain infrastructure.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the use of chemically treated and naturally treated swamp water on broiler chicken performance. Two hundred broiler chickens were distributed into 4 treatments with 5 replications as follows; P0: = swamp water was settled for 24 hours, P1 = swamp water was settled for 24 hours then treated with 24 mg/l chlorine and 24 mg/l alum, P2 = swamp water was settled for 24 hours then treated with 48 mg/l chitosan, and P3 = swamp water was settled for 24 hours then treated with 48 mg/l chitosan and filtered with a commercial filter. The results showed that the treatment had no significant effect (P>0.05) on drinking water consumption, feed intake, body weight, body weight gain, and feed conversion of broiler chickens. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of chitosan in swamp water treatment tends to improve broiler chicken performance. Swamp water treatment in this study was not able to meet the feed intake standards for broilers.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of maggot meal inclusion in diets containing senduduk leaves on the egg production performance of quails from the onset of laying to peak production. The basal diet included 4% senduduk leaves in all treatments. A completely randomized design was applied with four treatments, five replications, and eight quails per replicate. The treatments consisted of different levels of maggot meal: 0% (P0), 5% (P1), 10% (P2), and 15% (P3). Measured variables included feed intake, egg production, egg weight, egg mass, and feed conversion ratio. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test for significant effects. The results showed that maggot meal inclusion had no significant effect (P>0.05) on feed intake, which ranged from 143.19 to 145.49 g/bird/week. However, it significantly affected (P<0.01) egg production, egg weight, egg mass, and feed conversion ratio. Egg production in P0 (2.59 eggs/bird/week) was significantly lower than in P1 (4.04), P2 (3.50), and P3 (4.66). Similarly, egg weight and egg mass were significantly lower in P0 compared to other treatments. Feed conversion ratio was significantly higher in P0 (6.8) than in P1 (3.61), P2 (4.14), and P3 (2.96). In conclusion, maggot meal can be included up to 15% in diets containing 4% senduduk leaves to partially replace concentrate without reducing quail egg production performance.

Abstract

The research materials consisted of 80 commercial laying hens maintained for 8 weeks. The hens were kept in battery cages, each containing four birds, equipped with feeders and drinkers, as well as tools for measuring egg quality. The feed used during the production period consisted of ground corn (50%), rice bran (25%), and concentrate (25%) with nutrient content of 2900 kcal/kg metabolizable energy, 17.5% crude protein, 3% calcium (Ca), and 1.6% phosphorus (P). This study employed an experimental method by measuring egg weight and yolk color with the addition of turmeric powder supplementation. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications. The treatments were: P0 (control), P1 (1% turmeric powder), P2 (2% turmeric powder), and P3 (3% turmeric powder). The results of analysis of variance showed that the addition of turmeric powder had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on egg weight, but had a highly significant effect (P < 0.01) on yolk color. It can be concluded that supplementation of 2–3% turmeric powder improves yolk color, with the highest yolk color observed in P3 (3% turmeric powder).

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the microclimate profile of a naturally ventilated dairy barn and its association with behavioral responses, physiological status, and milk production of lactating dairy cows at Taman Ternak sapi perah Pagerkukuh Wonosobo. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a census method on 12 lactating cows over a 14-day observation period. Microclimate variables included air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and Temperature Humidity Index (THI), which were recorded at 3-hour intervals. Observations were also conducted on behavioral activities (feeding, drinking, standing, and lying), physiological parameters (respiration rate, pulse rate, and rectal temperature), and daily milk production. The results showed that the average THI inside the barn was 75.15, with an average wind speed of 0.14 m/s and relative humidity of 88.12%. Behavioral patterns indicated increased drinking and standing activities during peak THI periods, accompanied by longer feeding duration. Physiological responses showed an increase in respiration rate, while pulse rate and rectal temperature remained within normal ranges, indicating mild adaptation. Average milk production was 9.3 L/day, with indications of reduced feed utilization efficiency. Based on the findings, naturally ventilated housing was not effective in providing optimal microclimate conditions. Microclimate variations were closely associated with behavioral and physiological responses, with behavior serving as the most sensitive indicator of heat stress.
