Abstract

Paloh District is a coastal area which directly borders to Sarawak (Malaysia) and the Natuna Sea. This area has the potential for marine and coastal resources, such as mangrove ecosystems, coral reefs and turtles, so it has been designated as one of the conservation areas in West Kalimantan. To date, in the management of KKP3K Paloh, there are still many challenges, one of them is plastic waste contamination. Plastic waste is a global and very complex problem, because it can have a negative impact on biota, ecosystems and human health. The results of a report from BKSDA in collaboration with the WWF-Indonesia Foundation, found that 21 young turtles were died on Paloh Beach, West Kalimantan due to plastic waste was found in their digestive tract. Plastic accumulation in the aquatic environment occurs when the rate of input of plastic pollution into an area exceeds the rate of natural removal processes. Therefore, it is needed an action to reduce the amount of plastic waste accumulated in coastal and marine areas. This activity aimed to reduce the amount of plastic waste on Sungai Belacan Beach, Paloh District, West Kalimantan. Apart from that, this activity was an effort to strengthen the management strategy for the Coastal and Small Islands Conservation Area (KKP3K) in Paloh, West Kalimantan. Community Service Activities were carried out at Sungai Belacan Beach. The results found the waste types consisting of plastic bottles, glass bottles, medicine bottles, drink cups/packaging, food and beauty product packaging, stereofoam, plastic bags and ropes, fishermen's fishing gear, and wood. Plastic waste has the highest percentage (95%), then wood waste (3%), and other types of waste (2%).

Abstract

Desa Sungai Nibung is a coastal with high biodiversity, so this village has been designated as a conservation area in West Kalimantan with the main conservation target is mangrove. The mangrove ecosystem has an important ecological role, namely as a habitat for marine and coastal biota. A maintained ecosystem will protect the survival of the biota within it. Therefore, managing coastal areas is essential and a shared responsibility. One of the challenges faced in the management process in Desa Sungai Nibung is plastic waste pollution. This waste comes from disposal and runoff from land, which can enter rivers and the sea. Plastic pollution also comes from fishing activities, such as ship traffic, responsive fisheries, and cultivation. This waste needs to be appropriately managed because there is no final waste disposal site (TPA). Household waste and waste from several shops (plastic food and drink packaging) are dumped directly around the building. The accumulation of plastic waste will continue to increase. Therefore, cleanup activities were carried out to reduce plastic waste. Apart from that, this activity aims to educate activity participants about the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment. This community service activity was carried out by a lecturer in Marine Science, FMIPA, Tanjungpura University, who involved students from the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. Beaches and coastal clean-up from macroplastic waste are carried out in residential areas, docks, and areas near fishing activities and ecotourism areas. Implementation of PKM activities consists of permission and coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The waste from activities varies from plastic bags, sachet packaging, and food containers to fishing lines. Plastic waste dominates compared to other waste. Participants' understanding concerning plastic waste pollution and its negative impact on the environment and aquatic organisms increased after the activity took place.

Abstract

Currently, there is an increase in bullying cases in secondary school environments such as junior high and high school, which can lead to negative impacts such as physical and mental disturbances for the victims. Bullying is an act of intimidation carried out by the stronger party against the weaker party, manifested in various forms of intimidating behavior. The purpose of the Community Service Program (PKM) at KKN is to provide education and socialization about the dangers of bullying, using technology such as videos depicting the negative impacts of bullying. In its implementation, PKM KKN uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which is a participatory method among citizens or communication through sharing approaches (the story-sharing method), in-depth interviews, and focused group discussions (FGD). The selection of this method is based on the understanding that socialization about bullying prevention involves identifying problems and implementing solutions directly related to action. The results of this counseling activity show: 1) Students can identify types of bullying, including: a) cyberbullying, b) verbal bullying, and c) physical bullying; 2) introduce anti-bullying campaigns to students; 3) create an environment that supports the development of students' personalities and social skills; and 3) encourage open communication between schools, teachers, and parents regarding the development of students' personalities and social skills.

Abstract

The increasing demand for energy and the depletion of oil reserves are forcing humans to seek alternative energy sources. Therefore, the need for alternative electrical energy sources arises, namely, by utilizing solar panels. The importance of understanding how solar panels work and their maintenance becomes a determining factor in ensuring the optimal performance of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Lack of knowledge and awareness about maintenance can result in decreased efficiency and lifespan of solar panels. Users of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems are also expected to understand its maintenance procedures. Thus, the implementation of this community service activity aims to educate the public and enable them to maintain Solar Cells as Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. This activity is carried out by providing direct training on PV system maintenance, both theoretically and practically. The impact of this community service activity is that the community can understand and maintain Solar Cells as Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, as evidenced by the evaluation results where the understanding of the training participants falls into the category of very knowledgeable, which is 80.88%.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with two-thirds of the ocean, is located at the confluence of three major tectonic plates, namely Indo-Australia, Pacific and Eurasia, making it vulnerable to natural disasters such as megathrusts on the west and south coasts and megathrusts in the north and east that can trigger tsunamis. Lampung Province is one of the areas with high disaster risk based on the Indonesian Disaster Prone Index (IRBI). Therefore, the government has adopted the Destana program as a community-based disaster risk reduction effort. Sukaraja Village, located in South Lampung Regency, faces disaster threats such as landslides, tidal floods and tsunamis. The Destana program has been implemented in this village since 2012 by the South Lampung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). To evaluate this program, this community service uses the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model which includes evaluating the context, input, process, and product of the program with mixed methods. The results of community service show that the objectives of the Destana program in Sukaraja Village are appropriate in dealing with disaster risk. Although there are still some efforts that have not been implemented and unmet deficiencies in program resources and strategies, the Destana program as a whole has been running well. However, there are shortcomings in terms of issuing a Decree (SK) that supports Destana activities, which has an impact on access to village funds. Monitoring and evaluation of this program has been carried out by BPBD, but not yet by village officials. Sukaraja Village has shown results in implementing the Disaster Resilient Village program since 2012, although there are still aspects that need to be improved.
