Abstract

To ensure couples planning to get married understand the genetic risks related with their future offspring, they need to acquire information about genetic disorders and pre-marital genetic counselling that can be followed by genetic screening. Genetic disorders can be inherited from normal parents who are carriers of abnormal genes, such as thalassemia and Haemophilia. Genetic disorder also encompass chromosomal abnormalities, either the number or structure chromosome. Unlike numerical chromosomal abnormalities in offspring, which have an increased risk associated with the mother’s age during pregnancy, structural abnormalities in parents can be passed to their offspring. This community service activity targets seventh-semester students at Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya, who are at an age ready for marriage. The implementation of this activity begins with a pre-test to assess the student ‘s knowledge before the education presentation, followed by presentation with interactive discussion and ended with post-test to determine whether the education was comprehensible to them. Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya students showed a better understanding of genetic disorder indicated with an average score increase of 8.2 points (9.2%) based on post test result . All students agree on the importance of pre-marital screening, with the majority willing to undergo premarital screening and still proceed with the marriage if their partner is a carrier of thalassemia.

Abstract

The Bubulan Village has rich natural resources, one of which is high-quality teak trees contributing to the productivity of teak trees in Bojonegoro Regency. Despite its advantages, teak trees in Bubulan Village hold the potential for economically valuable waste, namely teak leaf waste accumulating in the forest area. Additionally, Bubulan Village is home to wooden furniture craftsmen, and every production process generates wood sawdust waste. This community service aims to empower the people of Bubulan Village in managing this waste through training on the utilization of dried teak leaf waste and wood sawdust as raw materials for charcoal briquettes. The service method begins with partner surveys, followed by reference studies and a simulation of the charcoal-making process by the team. Subsequently, tools for making charcoal briquettes (including the creation of a charcoal stove) are procured. The activities continue with outreach to showcase the potential of Bubulan Village, followed by training on the utilization of teak leaf waste and wood sawdust as raw materials for charcoal briquettes.Representatives from the youth organization (karang taruna), village officials, and 20 residents of Bubulan Village attended this community service. The outcomes of this service include an increase in participants' knowledge about charcoal briquettes made from dried teak leaves and wood sawdust by 49%. The designed and made charcoal stove by the service team functions well. Briquettes made from dried teak leaves ignite more easily but have a shorter burning duration compared to briquettes made from wood sawdust. Further testing is needed to determine the calorific value, ash content, and moisture content of these briquettes, as well as additional tests on the efficiency of the charcoal stove.Written in English with a distance between sentences of 1 space and the number of words between 150-250. The abstract should contain introductions, methods, results and discussions and conclusions (without citation). Avoid using citations in the abstract.

Abstract

One of the big problems facing Indonesia is unemployment and waste management. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded February 2023 data that there were still 7.99 million unemployed in Indonesia. In terms of education, the highest unemployment rate (TPT) is experienced by high school (SMA) and vocational high school (SMK) graduates. One of the efforts to reduce the high number of unemployed, Senior High Schools (SMA) are expected to play an active role in producing graduates who can create jobs. The waste problem in Indonesia is also a problem that has not been resolved to date. Indonesia is estimated to produce 187.2 million tons of waste every year, with 60% coming from organic waste. One solution for handling organic waste is the application of Eco-enzyme. The aim of this activity is to provide training in making Eco-Enzyme based dish washing soap as an effort to foster the entrepreneurial spirit of students at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember. This activity was carried out in the form of direct outreach and training to 75 students. Based on the results of observations of these activities, SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember has never implemented making dishwashing soap from organic waste. This can be seen from the pre-test with the results that only 21% of students had a good level of knowledge about Eco-Enzyme. Furthermore, the post-test results after carrying out this training, those with good knowledge levels increased to 92%. The pretest and posttest results show that on average the training participants experienced an increase in knowledge and understanding about the Eco-Enzyme-based Dish Soap Making Training, so it is hoped that it can motivate students' entrepreneurial interest by thinking creatively and innovatively.

Abstract

Early marriage has become a tradition in village communities. As happened in Jember Regency, in 2023 there will be approximately 905 of early marriage cases. Even though Law No. 16 of 2019 regulates that the minimum age limit for men and women to marry is 19 years. Apart from traditional factors, many other factors cause early marriage, such as promiscuity, economic factors, and also the lack of legal literacy in society regarding the age limit for marriage. Therefore, we are conducting counselling to increase legal literacy regarding early marriage in Pocangan Village, Jember Regency to reduce and prevent early marriage cases. The method used in this activity is Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), From all stages of service, it was successful in improving public literacy and understanding of marriage laws including age limits for marriage, as well as public awareness to comply with regulations, as well as being able to prevent early marriage and provide positive education to other communities. However, in terms of awareness regarding continuing education, the level of education is still low. Because there is no social or institutional support for continuing school.

Abstract

The literacy of green economy among Indonesian people is still very minimal so that its implementation is still very low. The concept of green economy is closely related to social welfare, environmental sustainability, and renewable energy, biodiversity, and emission reduction. Green economy answers the economic challenges in Indonesia, which lately is still rampant exploitation in the field of natural resources. In addition, the concept of green economy is very relevant to the concept of sharia economics or Islamic economics which both carry out the principle of environmental sustainability and prohibit things that cause damage. However, the two economic concepts are still not well implemented due to the lack of literacy among the community. To answer these problems, researchers decided to increase literacy in the field of green economy and Islamic economics which was carried out through socialization and making environmentally friendly products and coupled with digital marketing training, because digital marketing is in line with the principles of green economy where practically, digital marketing is a very environmentally friendly sales and promotion method because it does not use media derived from the exploitation of natural resources. This community service activity was carried out at the Darul Ulum Islamic boarding school, Kasihan village, Tegalombo sub-district, Pacitan district. The socialization participants were students from the boarding school.
