Abstract

Porang tubers are one of the tubers that have special features compared to other tubers. Porang tubers contain glucomannan which has many health benefits. Glucomannan is a polysaccharide compound and contains high fiber. People have not been able to consume porang tubers directly because they contain high concentration of calcium oxalate. Soaking porang tubers in lime solution can help lower calcium oxalate levels. In addition to the content of glucomannan and calcium oxalate, proximate levels in porang tubers also need to be analyzed to determine the quality of processed porang tubers. In this study, an analysis of proximate levels in porang tubers was carried out before and after soaking in lime solution. The proximate levels of porang tubers before and after soaking with lime solution did not differ much. Porang tubers that have been dried for 6 days have a lower water content and higher carbohydrate content than tubers that have been dried for 4 days. Likewise, porang tubers that have been dried at 70 °C have a lower moisture content and higher carbohydrate content than tubers dried at 60 °C.

Abstract

Candlenut is one of the industrial plant commodities that can be extracted so that the candlenut seeds produce oil with levels of 55-65% of the weight of the seeds. The main components of candlenut oil are saturated and unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic acid which are antioxindants. This study aims to determine the effect of the time factor of using the microwave on the yield of candlenut oil and its antioxidant activity. This research method uses a microwave power intensity of 100 watts with a variation of the microwave time for 60, 90 and 120 seconds. Determination of the antioxidant activity of candlenut oil using reagents 2,2diphenyl-1-picrihydrazil or DPPH. The results of this study indicate that there is an antioxidant activity in candlenut oil given microwave pre-treatment. The results of the antioxidant activity of the candlenut seed extract which were pre-treated with microwave 60, 90, and 120 seconds with IC50 values were 979489.985 g/ml, respectively; 1241,652 g/ml; and 70.307 g/ml. While the yield is 49,75%; 55,7%; and 48,47% which indicates there is a decrease in the yield of thirtd sample. The yield is influenced by the lenght of micorwave irradiation, seed condition, power intensity and oil press. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is an effect of microwaves on the antioxidant activity of candlenut oil.

Abstract

Borax or sodium biborate is a white crystalline compound that is stable at room temperature. Ii is usually used to make detergents and antiseptics. However, nowadays there is still a lot of borax added to food ingredients to make food chewier, such as tofu, wet noodles, meatballs, chicken, fresh and salted fish. Purple potatoe (Ipomoea batatas Var. Ayumurasaki) has fairly high anthocyanin content, 5.92-402 mg/25 mg of fresh purple potato. Anthocyanins are compounds that are able to detect the presence of borax in food samples because they can break down borax bonds into borax acid by binding it to a blue color. This study aimed to determine the presence of borax in meatball samples in Banyuwangi district using purple potato extract with the maceration and pressing method, then a comparative test was carried out using the test kit method for valid results. The positive control used was borax with a level of 0.02 mg/2 ml, and the negative control used aquadest. The maceration method produced a significant color change when compared to other method, namely bluish green when interacting with borax. The meatball samples in Banyuwangi sub-district showed that all samples were free from borax, this was indicated by the absence of a color change when interacting with the purple sweet potato or the test kit.

Abstract

Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience due to actual or potential tissue damage. Pain is also a warning form of the danger of tissue damage. One of the people who often experience pain is women, especially during menstruation. Based on the American Family Physician, the incidence of dysmenorrhea throughout the world is still very large, the percentage of the dysmenorrhea incidence in the world is on average more than 50% or ranging from 15.8-89.5% of women in each country. Some women who experience dysmenorrhea take analgesic drugs regularly. Nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus) contains a wide variety of secondary metabolites, one of which is flavonoids, has an analgesics effect. This research was aimed to compare the level of refined sugar in the hard candy formulation of the nutgrass. Extraction of flavonoids from Nutgrass can be done by infusion method. The infusion of Nutgrass was processed into candy preparations. This research was conducted by adding a variety of refined sugar. In the first formulation using refined sugar as much as 47 grams and in the second formulation using refined sugar as much as 62 grams. The research results found that the first formula where the sugar content was lower (47 grams) could not crystallize perfectly, while second formula where the sugar content was higher (62 grams) could crystallize well. Hence, it can be said that the higher refined sugar content can make the candy crystallize well.

Abstract

Whitening cream is a product that has an active ingredient composition that can slow down the formation of melanin so that it can whiten the skin. Hydroquinone is an active compound that is usually added to whitening cream preparations to prevent pigmentation which causes skin darkening. So that the process of use must be monitored. But the rise of cosmetic products on the market, especially online marketplaces, is an opportunity for weak supervision by drunken parties. For this reason, qualitative and quantitative analysis of hydroquinone compounds in whitening cream preparations sold on online marketplaces needs to be carried out. Qualitative analysis was carried out by testing the color reaction using FeCl3, benedict, and fluoroglucine reagents. From the qualitative analysis, 2 hydroquinone positive samples were obtained from 10 tested whitening cream samples. Quantitative analysis was carried out using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method using fluoroglucin. The results of the analysis showed that the cream sample proved to contain hydroquinone, namely sample B with 0.073 ppm and sample F 0.044 ppm.

Abstract

Dermatitis or eczema is a form of the condition in which the layers of the skin (epidermis and dermis) have general inflammation which is usually influenced by endogenous and exogenous factors causing clinical abnormalities in the form of polymorphic efflorescence (erythema, edema, papules, vesicles, scales, lichenification) and itching complaint. This study simed to determine the treatment pattern given to patients with atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis at the Jelakombo Health Center Jombang. This was an observational study with retrospective data collection. The data sourced used was existing medical records from January to December 2020. Data analysis was carried out descriptively with purposive sampling. The results showed that the most common dermatitis patients were atopic dermatitis (34%) which mostly treated with CTM+Dexamethasone. Patients with allergic contact dermatitis were 38 patients (38%), the most common drug regimen to manage it was Cetirizine+Hydrocortisone ointment. There were 28 patients (28%) with irritant contact dermatitis, which mostly treated with Cetirizine+Hydrocortisone Ointment followed by CTM + Dexamethasone. This study concluded that the drug regimen for the three types of dermatitis was almost the same, namely a combination of oral and topical antihistamines and corticosteroids. The antihistamines used were first-generation antihistamines (CTM) and second-generation (Cetirizine and Loratadine). Further assessment related to whether the sedation effect was wanted or it was disturbing side effect is needed. The widely used oral corticosteroid was dexamethasone, which is a high-potency corticosteroid, so its use must be judicious. Topical corticosteroids were hydrocortisone ointments that include low potency topical corticosteroids which are the first line of atopic dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis.
