Abstract

Stunting remains a major challenge in human development in Indonesia, particularly in rural communities with limited access to health services and nutritional education. This study aims to analyse the role of Human Development Cadres (Kader Pembangunan Manusia/KPMs) in stunting prevention from a nonformal education perspective in North Bengkulu Regency. A qualitative case study approach was employed in Karang Anyar Village and Talang Pasak Village. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving KPMs, health workers, village officials, and beneficiary families. The findings reveal that KPMs perform strategic roles not only as health programme implementers but also as facilitators of community learning, social mediators, and agents of behavioural change. Through participatory educational activities, home visits, and contextual nutritional assistance, KPMs contribute to improving community awareness regarding child nutrition and parenting practices. The effectiveness of their role is influenced by socio-cultural conditions, institutional support, and community participation. The study highlights the importance of strengthening communication and facilitation competencies to support sustainable community-based stunting prevention.

Abstract

This study examines the management strategy of BUMDes Binangun Sendang Artha in supporting local economic development in Sendangsari Village, Pengasih District, Kulon Progo Regency, Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative approach using a single case study design to explore institutional governance, community participation, business development, and supporting and inhibiting factors in BUMDes management. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving BUMDes administrators, village government officials, and community members. The findings show that BUMDes plays an important role in strengthening the local economy through microfinance services, particularly savings and loan activities that support microenterprises and productive community businesses. The success of BUMDes is influenced by strong social trust, active community participation, and support from the village government. However, several challenges remain, including limited human resource capacity, low business innovation, limited diversification of business units, and weak digital literacy. The study identifies institutional strengthening, business innovation, and cross-sector partnerships as key strategies for improving BUMDes sustainability and competitiveness. This research highlights the importance of community-based economic institutions in promoting inclusive and sustainable rural development.

This community engagement programme aimed to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the Malaysian market through practical entrepreneurship training for Indonesian citizens in Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding areas. The programme was implemented at Rumah Hamka Malaysia and involved 30 existing and prospective entrepreneurs from various business sectors. Using a participatory training approach, the activities focused on target market identification, product attractiveness, business integrity, packaging improvement, and cost-effective promotional strategies. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test assessments, observation, worksheets, participant feedback, and satisfaction questionnaires. The data were analysed using descriptive analysis and a paired-samples t-test. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in participants’ understanding after the programme. Participants became more capable of identifying market segments, formulating product value, building customer trust, improving packaging presentation, and designing simple promotional messages. This programme concludes that community-based practical training can support Indonesian diaspora entrepreneurs and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Malaysia.

Abstract

Limited land availability and high dependence of coastal communities on the fisheries sector have led to low diversification of food sources and household income in Laguruda Village, Sanrobone District, Takalar Regency. This Community Partnership Program (PKM) aims to improve community knowledge and skills in hydroponic cultivation as an alternative for utilizing home yard spaces. The implementation method employed a participatory approach through socialization, hands-on training, and mentoring stages. The program was conducted over five months involving a community business group (KUBE) as the main partner. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and technical skills in hydroponic practices, including seedling preparation, installation setup, and plant maintenance. Furthermore, hydroponic application optimized the use of limited land, supported household food security, and created opportunities for small-scale income-generating activities. High participant involvement contributed to the program's success; however, further assistance is needed to ensure long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Seagrass ecosystems play a vital role in both the ecology and economy of coastal regions. Ecologically, seagrass beds serve as nursery grounds, spawning grounds, and feeding grounds for various aquatic organisms, particularly fish. However, the water conditions in Puntundo Village have suffered environmental degradation due to damage to the seagrass ecosystem and the community’s limited knowledge of seagrass rehabilitation techniques. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to enhance the community’s understanding and skills in rehabilitating seagrass ecosystems using the plug and bamboo frame method in the coastal area of Laikang Village, Takalar Regency. The methods employed include outreach, training on seagrass planting media preparation, and a participatory approach involving the community from the preparation stage through to the implementation of the activity. The training was conducted on a community-based approach, adhering to international standards for seagrass rehabilitation through transplantation techniques. The results of the activity indicate that the partner groups have successfully carried out seagrass rehabilitation using the plug and bamboo frame methods. Monitoring revealed that seagrass on the bamboo frames partially dried out due to sun exposure during the lowest low tide, whereas the plug method provided better protection for the plants, resulting in lower levels of desiccation.
