Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of Theo-Humanism concept of God-centered to build humanized-God centered character in Islamic boarding school education of Tahfidz Al-Amien Prenduan, Sumenep, Madura. Applicating qualitative instrumental case study design involving 16 key respondents, consisting of students, teachers, and institutional stakeholders, selected through purposive sampling. The research explored field data through in-depth interviews with the key respondents, applying triangulation across time and methods to ensure data credibility. In addition, participatory observation was conducted throughout educational and instructional activities, with a primary focus on examining teacher–student relationships, analyzing curricular documents, and eliciting students’ experiential narratives. The findings indicate that the integration of Divine and human values is manifested in an integrated curriculum model that harmonizes naqli (revealed) and aqli (rational) forms of knowledge. This integration is grounded in a collaborative educational system implemented on a 24-hour basis under the close supervision of educators who function as murabbi, mudabbir, and khādim al-tarbiyah. Such an approach strengthens ethical and moral education based on Theo-Humanist principles, which serve as the fundamental foundation for shaping students’ character oriented toward their role as al-khalīfah fī al-arḍ (God’s vicegerents on earth) representing the highest recognition of human dignity in fulfilling life in the world.

Abstract

The culture of Islamic boarding schools has increasingly been recognized as a crucial medium for character education, especially in fostering discipline and cooperation among students amid globalization, which often challenges moral values and social solidarity. This study aims to examine the role of pesantren culture in shaping discipline and collaboration between male and female students at Darul Hijrah Islamic Boarding School. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research employed in-depth observation, interviews with ustadz and ustadzah, and document analysis to capture formal and informal practices of daily life, religious routines, and collaborative activities. The findings reveal that strict rules, habitual congregational prayers, structured learning, and cooperative tasks significantly contribute to the development of discipline and social solidarity among students. Role modeling by teachers and a supportive pesantren environment were identified as key factors, while challenges arose from differences in individual motivation, student backgrounds, and external influences. Students perceive discipline not merely as an obligation but as a life value extending beyond the pesantren. In contrast, cooperation is internalized as practical experience in solidarity, equipping them for future social life. This study contributes a new perspective by demonstrating that internalizing pesantren culture involves reflective meaning-making rather than mere normative compliance. The research also implies that educational institutions, both boarding schools and formal schools, can strengthen student character by integrating structured routines, religious practices, and collaborative activities to foster long-term discipline and cooperative behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of teachers in disciplining students during congregational prayers at the Washilatul Al-Ikhlas Mosque of MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan and to identify the challenges faced by teachers in this process. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, which seeks to systematically describe facts and characteristics of the studied object while emphasizing the meaning derived from the collected data. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman qualitative model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification, carried out interactively until the data reached saturation. The findings reveal that teachers play a crucial role in motivating, guiding, and setting an example for students in performing congregational prayers. Teachers act not only as supervisors but also as active participants, thereby serving as role models for students. Student discipline is reflected in their punctuality in performing prayers, their sense of solidarity, and their effective use of time. The challenges encountered include the large number of students, limited mosque capacity, and the inability of teachers to provide comprehensive supervision. Nevertheless, the overall implementation of congregational prayers at MAN 1 Padangsidimpuan is orderly and effective in fostering religious awareness and building students’ disciplined character.

Abstract

The development of globalization and digital technology has brought significant changes to higher education, driving the adoption of technology-based learning to create a more interactive and relevant experience for the current generation of students. This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital textbooks in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at public universities, focusing on the development of students' critical thinking skills. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, this research was conducted at a university in East Kalimantan, involving 15 informants from lecturers, students, and program administrators. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive model. The findings indicate that the implementation of digital textbooks in IRE is carried out in three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The digital textbooks have been proven to enhance students' ability to analyze religious issues, formulate logical arguments, and foster empathy and tolerance toward religious differences. This research also enriches the educational literature by affirming that digital textbooks not only effectively strengthen higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), but also function as a pedagogical tool that supports inclusive and multicultural religious education. Therefore, digital textbooks can be a transformative tool in shaping critical, reflective, and inclusive students in higher education.

Abstract

Qur'anic memorization has become a central component of Islamic education in many elementary schools across Muslim-majority countries; However, its implementation still faces pedagogical and institutional challenges that hinder its effectiveness. This study aims to address this gap by systematically identifying and synthesizing research on the challenges and solutions in Qur'anic memorization learning at the elementary school level. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on PRISMA guidelines, literature was retrieved from Scopus, covering publications between 2015 and 2025, with fourteen studies meeting the inclusion criteria. The findings reveal four main categories of challenges: (1) student-related factors (cognitive limitations, psychological fatigue, motivation issues), (2) teacher-related factors (limited pedagogical skills, lack of standardization), (3) curriculum and time management issues (balancing memorization with general education), and (4) institutional barriers (limited resources, weak monitoring, and policy gaps). The discussion emphasizes that effective solutions require pedagogical innovation, technology integration, teacher professional development, and stronger collaboration among schools, parents, and policymakers. These findings provide valuable implications for educators and curriculum developers in designing holistic and sustainable Qur'anic memorization programs for young learners.

Abstract

The independence of santri is one of the primary objectives of pesantren education; however, in practice, there remains a gap in the integration of entrepreneurship education with religious values, particularly within Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Entrepreneurship education is often understood in a pragmatic manner and has not been fully internalized as part of character formation grounded in Islamic teachings. Therefore, this study aims to examine in depth how religious-based entrepreneurship education is developed and implemented to shape the independent character of santri through the integration of Qur’anic values, the exemplary model of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the principles of sharia-based entrepreneurship. This study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach conducted at Pondok Pesantren Uswatun Hasanah Samarinda. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with pesantren leaders, teachers, and santri, observations of learning processes and entrepreneurial activities, and documentation of institutional programs and policies. The findings indicate that religious-based entrepreneurship education is developed through integrated intracurricular and extracurricular programs and implemented through classroom instruction combined with hands-on entrepreneurial practices. This integration of religious values and entrepreneurship has proven effective in fostering santri independence, encompassing independent thinking, mental attitudes, and financial self-reliance. The implications of this study highlight the importance of strengthening religious-based entrepreneurship education models as a strategic approach for pesantren in preparing santri who are independent, possess strong Islamic character, and are adaptive to contemporary socio-economic challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic educational values in the prevention and mitigation of stunting in Subulussalam City, Aceh. The urgency of this study is driven by the high stunting prevalence of 47%, which prompted the local government to conduct integrated interventions through various institutions such as the Health Office, Education Office, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Considering that Aceh is an Islamic region with a Muslim majority, a religious-based approach is seen as highly relevant in influencing community behavior. The objective of this study is to describe how Islamic educational values—worship (ibadah), faith (iman), and morals (akhlaq)—are integrated into stunting prevention programs. This research employs a qualitative case-study design using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Islamic educational values are implemented by Islamic religious teachers, religious counselors, and health workers through education, counseling, premarital guidance, and community socialization activities. These values are integrated with Qur’anic verses and hadith related to family responsibility, breastfeeding, and nutritional fulfillment. This approach enhances community knowledge, encourages behavioral change toward a healthy lifestyle, and reinforces the belief that maintaining children’s health is a religious duty. The study concludes that integrating Islamic educational values into public health programs can serve as an effective strategy for stunting prevention, especially in religious-based communities. The implication of this research suggests that policy synergy between religious institutions and health agencies can strengthen the sustainability of stunting reduction programs.

Abstract

Pesantren as the oldest Islamic educational institution in Indonesia has a strategic role in shaping the character, morals, and personality of students. Therefore, Islamic boarding schools have a great responsibility in ensuring the fulfillment of children's rights, including the right to a sense of security, protection from violence, and a healthy and inclusive learning environment. The purpose of this research is to explore, analyze, and systematize various literature, both from classical and contemporary sources, that discuss child protection, education management, and Islamic values that are relevant in building a safe, inclusive, and well-oriented educational environment for students. The research method used is a qualitative method with a library research approach using descriptive-analytical analysis, through the review of literature in the form of books, journals, scientific articles, and policy documents related to the concept of child-friendly education that is not inseparable from the leadership of kiai and teachers, internal regulations in the form of codes of ethics and discipline, parental involvement, and healthy spatial design.  is an important element in creating a conducive pesantren climate. As a literature research, this study makes a conceptual contribution in enriching the academic discourse on child-friendly pesantren as well as being a normative reference for the development of child-friendly pesantren policies.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Love Curriculum, with a particular focus on its integration at Pesantren Al-Amien Prenduan. Using a qualitative approach with document analysis, field observations, and semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, the study investigates how the Love Curriculum’s nine core values empathy, compassion, tolerance, justice, respect, humanity, cooperation, responsibility, and creativity are practiced within pesantren education. The findings reveal that Al-Amien embeds these values not only in formal classroom learning but also in dormitory life, communal worship, and student organizations, creating an environment that nurtures students’ intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth. The novelty of this study lies in its examination of how pesantren education, traditionally rooted in Islamic values, adapts and operationalizes a state-issued curriculum to promote religious moderation, multiculturalism, and the Profil Pelajar Pancasila. Unlike previous studies that analyze tolerance education primarily in public schools, this research demonstrates that pesantrens can serve as unique models for integrating love-based pedagogy with religious and national identity. The study concludes that the Love Curriculum at Al-Amien contributes to countering intolerance, strengthening national commitment, and cultivating inclusive, socially responsible graduates thereby offering a replicable model for Indonesian and global Islamic education in the era of rapid social change.
