Abstract

The development of an organization is inseparable from the support of both internal and external stakeholders, with human resource management (HRM) playing a critical strategic role in achieving organizational objectives. In the modern competitive environment, Talent Management (TM) has emerged as a key HRM practice to attract, develop, retain, and position individuals with the right skills to drive organizational success. This study aims to examine the effect of Talent Management strategies on Employee Performance (EP) at the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin). Drawing on theories from Collings and Mellahi (2009) and other prior research, the study emphasizes the importance of aligning TM initiatives with institutional goals to enhance productivity and service quality. A quantitative research method was applied, with data collected through purposive sampling from 160 employees. The analysis used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via SmartPLS to test the measurement and structural models. The R² value for EP was 0.819, indicating that Talent Management explains 81.9% of the variance in Employee Performance, while the Q² value of 0.689 confirms strong predictive relevance. Hypothesis testing results show a path coefficient of 0.905, a t-statistic of 43.460, and a p-value of 0.000, indicating a very strong, positive, and statistically significant effect of Talent Management on Employee Performance. The discussion highlights that systematic talent acquisition, targeted training and development, performance-based appraisal systems, and structured career pathways substantially contribute to enhancing work quality and productivity at Barantin. The findings align with previous studies in both public and private sectors, confirming that well-implemented TM strategies improve engagement, retention, and organizational outcomes. The exceptionally high correlation found in this study suggests that Barantin’s TM practices are highly customized to its operational needs, enabling effective skill utilization and superior performance. These results underscore the strategic importance of TM in public sector institutions and provide practical insights for policymakers and HR practitioners aiming to strengthen workforce capabilities.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the autonomous speaking textbook, which provides detailed guidance for preparing to master English job interviews. This textbook provides detailed guidance on applying autonomous learning in speaking practice within a job interview context, along with rubrics and a weekly journal for autonomous purposes. The Design-Based Research (DBR) methodology was employed in this study, as it is more suitable for developing and evaluating educative innovations in authentic settings. The data were collected from the pre-test and post-test of the students' interviews, as well as survey results, to assess the students’ perceptions and strengthen the measurement of the effectiveness of 27 final-semester D4 English Department students at Politeknik Negeri Padang. The study's results reveal a significant improvement in the students’ speaking competence, particularly in terms of fluency, clarity, confidence, and vocabulary use. Most students felt that practicing mock interviews, receiving peer feedback, and keeping self-assessment journals helped them identify their strengths and weaknesses. These findings highlight the potential of an autonomous speaking textbook to bridge the gap between academic speaking activities and real-world job interview demand. Thus, it offers practical implications for EFL pedagogy and the development of employability skills

Abstract

Chronic stress is a pervasive global health issue linked to psychological and physiological disorders. Music therapy has emerged as a non-invasive, cost-effective intervention with demonstrated benefits in emotional regulation and neurochemical modulation. Among its proposed mechanisms is the stimulation of beta-endorphin production, a neuropeptide associated with pain relief, mood enhancement, and stress reduction. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of instrumental and vocal music therapy on beta-endorphin hormone levels and subjective stress reduction in adults experiencing moderate to high stress A randomized controlled trial was conducted involving 90 participants aged 18–45 with self-reported stress levels above the clinical threshold. Participants were randomly assigned to three groups: instrumental music therapy, vocal music therapy, or a no-intervention control. Each intervention group received 30-minute music therapy sessions three times per week for four weeks. Serum beta-endorphin levels were measured pre- and post-intervention using ELISA assays. Subjective stress was assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Both instrumental and vocal music therapy groups showed significant increases in beta-endorphin levels compared to the control (p < 0.01), alongside marked reductions in PSS scores (p < 0.001). Vocal therapy demonstrated a slightly higher effect size. Instrumental and vocal music therapy significantly enhance beta-endorphin secretion and reduce perceived stress, suggesting their utility as complementary interventions in stress management protocols.

Abstract

This study discusses the figure of Baboi or Ibu Adat in Mentawai society, particularly in Sagulubbeg Village, Southwest Siberut, as a representation of female authority in the Arat Sabulungan belief system. Using qualitative research methods with ethnography, this study explores Baboi's role in maintaining balance between humans, nature, and the spiritual world through ritual practices, self-symbolism, and ecological knowledge. Baboi acts as a mediator between ancestral spirits and humans, as well as playing a role in maintaining cosmological harmony, which is manifested in Ti'ti Geilat and Sipaggeu. The results of the study show that Baboi holds a strategic function in preserving traditional values and environmental sustainability, especially through the Simatabaik principle, which emphasizes the wise use of resources. In a social context, Baboi also negotiates women's power within patriarchal structures, while also becoming agents of cultural transformation in the era of modernization. This study shows that Baboi is not only a spiritual figure, but also a local feminist ecological symbol that maintains ethical relations between humans and nature. These findings enrich the discourse of feminist anthropology and cultural ecology in the archipelago by emphasizing the importance of indigenous women's knowledge in the social and ecological sustainability system in the Mentawai region

Abstract

The efficiency of an irrigation system is strongly influenced by the proper selection of the water pump type, optimized according to the hydraulic requirements and comprehensive operational efficiency considerations. This study presents a theoretical analysis of centrifugal pump selection for paddy field irrigation systems, considering head losses, flow rate requirements, and power demand required to achieve optimal operational efficiency. Hydraulic equations and performance curves of commercially available centrifugal pumps were used to determine the most suitable pump configuration for the irrigation system’s operating conditions. The calculations encompass key parameters, including flow rate, flow velocity, total dynamic head, and pump power, to identify the most efficient pump type for irrigation applications. The analysis reveals that the selected centrifugal pump, operating at a discharge rate of 0.0056 m³/s and suction head variations between 3 and 10 m, yields a total head ranging from 4.7648 to 12.6627 m and a corresponding shaft power of 0.4745 to 1.4919 hp, with the efficiency maintained constant at 55%. The computational results demonstrate that variations in suction head are proportional to corresponding changes in total head and pump power. This theoretical approach offers a technical framework for selecting efficient and cost-effective centrifugal pumps suitable for small- to medium-scale agricultural irrigation systems. These findings underscore the significance of the theoretical approach as an efficient and cost-effective preliminary method for designing irrigation pump systems grounded in hydraulic analysis.
