Abstract

Community-based economic development is a crucial strategy for achieving sustainable rural welfare. This community engagement program aims to assist the residents of Lembang Ma’kuanpare in establishing the Merah Putih Village Cooperative through a participatory approach and the utilization of local potential. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), integrating the processes of needs assessment, training, planning, organizational formation, and legal registration of the cooperative. The results show that participatory cooperative development enhances community understanding and involvement, fosters local leadership, and creates new social institutions that support village economic development. The established cooperative functions not only as a platform for collective enterprise but also as a driving force for social transformation based on local potential.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to optimize the application of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in thematic learning to develop students’ critical thinking skills in Suralaya Village, Pulomerak District, Cilegon City. The program was implemented in four educational institutions: SD Pringori, SMPN 10 Cilegon, SMA Negeri 4 Cilegon, and MDTA Al-Latif. The methods included teacher training, classroom observation, PBL implementation mentoring, and student-teacher reflection. The results showed that PBL encouraged students to become active learning agents, enhanced their critical thinking abilities, and strengthened collaboration between schools and the social environment. Furthermore, there was a transformation in the teacher’s role into that of a learning facilitator. The implication of this activity suggests that PBL is a relevant approach to improve learning quality in local educational contexts, particularly in fostering character development and higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

This community service activity in Sidakmukti Village, Sukaresmi District, Pandeglang Regency aimed to empower the creative economy through the utilization of plastic waste to produce paving blocks. The main problems addressed were the high accumulation of plastic waste in coastal areas and residential neighborhoods, combined with low public awareness of waste management. Using a participatory approach and support from the village head, the community actively collected and recycled plastic waste. An appropriate technology in the form of a plastic waste shredding machine was designed and operated by residents. The shredded plastic waste was mixed with sand to produce paving blocks that meet strength and aesthetic standards. These products are used as material for village access roads. The activity results showed increased awareness, skills, and new economic potential for the community. This empowerment model can be replicated to support sustainable development and environmentally friendly waste management.

Abstract

Environmental pollution in coastal areas, particularly due to inorganic waste such as plastic, poses a serious threat to ecosystems and tourism aesthetics. In response, students of Universitas Bina Bangsa carried out a Beach Clean Up program at Pulomerak Kecil Beach, Cilegon City, as part of their community service project (KKN). This activity aimed to raise awareness among local residents and visitors about the importance of coastal cleanliness through direct action and environmental education. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the program involved cleaning the shoreline, installing educational banners, and conducting outreach on the impacts of pollution. The initiative successfully engaged students, youth groups, and local communities, fostering social solidarity and a culture of environmental care. The results demonstrate that participatory and educational approaches are effective in promoting sustainable environmental practices in tourist areas.

Abstract

The rise in cases of risky adolescent behavior and the lack of understanding regarding reproductive health have become contributing factors to the increasing spread of HIV/AIDS among young people. This community engagement activity aims to raise adolescents’ awareness of the dangers of promiscuity and the importance of maintaining reproductive health as a preventive measure against HIV/AIDS. The interactive socialization was conducted at MTSS AL-FATHU, located in Mekarsari Sub-district, Pulomerak District, Cilegon City, using a participatory approach involving group discussions, educational video screenings, case simulations, and Q&A sessions. The participants were junior high school students aged 12–15 years. The results showed an increase in students’ knowledge and understanding of the negative impacts of promiscuity and the significance of early reproductive health awareness. This program received positive responses from both students and school staff, who expressed interest in similar initiatives being conducted regularly. Therefore, interactive socialization proves to be an effective method in shaping adolescent awareness and positive attitudes toward reproductive issues and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Abstract

Drug abuse can affect the central nervous system, reduce awareness, cause dependence, and negatively impact the physical, mental, and social health of users. However, in this region, there is still a lack of education regarding the dangers of drugs and a lack of preventive measures related to drug use. The purpose of this community service (PKM) activity is to increase public understanding of the types of drugs, the psychological and health impacts of their use, and the legal consequences that accompany drug abuse. This PKM also aims to build collective community awareness in preventing the spread of drugs in their environment. The method of implementation of the activity was carried out in the form of counseling. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the legal, health, and psychological aspects related to drugs. Interactive discussions showed that the community began to understand the importance of prevention and an active role in reporting and rehabilitating users. This activity was concluded to be effective and able to increase public literacy and awareness of the dangers of drugs. Further counseling and collaboration between institutions are highly recommended for the sustainability of education and the creation of a drug-free environment.
