Abstract

Folklore is a story created by the community whose existence is intended to entertain children through stories containing moral values to have an essential role for children. It usually based on the culture of those who created them, making folklores from different areas unique in their ways, including the morals they teach. This article is qualitatively aimed to analyse and compare folklores from both Indonesia and Britain, finding similarities and differences in the moral values they teach. This research is directed to compare folklore originating from Indonesia and England because they both have different cultural backgrounds and analyse how each culture can differentiate between two similar stories. The new criticism theory is applied during the comparison process, divided into first analysing the story, ending with the morals that the story attempts to teach. The result of this study shows that, despite the difference in culture between the two cultures, their folklores can teach the same morals, as shown by “Saudagar yang Kikir” dan “The Old Witch”. On the other hand, ‘Legenda Batu Menangis’ and ‘Cap O’ Rushes’ contain different moral values and are more difficult to compare, despite both having familial themes.. Abstract

This research was conducted in the aim to analyze the language style used by millennial generations in social media, instagram, in their daily captions. With Martin Joos' theory, five different language styles were examined. Frozen style is one of them, as are formal style, consulting style, casual and intimate style. The researchers applied qualitative research design to answer the research question and choose content analysis because the result of the data analyzed is the caption the teenager wrote on his Instagram account. The researchers used documentation as the research instrument. The researchers took 30 data from caption posted in January until July 2021. Data from the teen's Instagram caption was used in this study. There are thirty (30) pieces of data total. After conducting this research, it was found that the dominant style type on Instagram is casual style, which accounts for 17 cases (56.7%), formal style accounts for 10%, consultative style accounts for 2 cases (6.7%), intimate style accounts for 3 cases (23.3%), and frozen style accounts for one case (3,3). Participant, setting, and topic all have an impact on the language style you use. Abstract

The aim of this study was improve the students’ English speaking skill through action learning strategy at 9 of SMP Islam Assya’roniyyah. The method used Classroom Action Research (CAR) that developed by Kemmis and Mc Taggart (2013). It consists of four steps namely, planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Improvement the problem in this research was brought by the series of cycle. The procedures of research were performs by administrating two cycles. Each cycle contain four steps which are planning, action, observation, and reflection. The collecting data used test, observation, and interview. Analyzing data used the mean each post-test in cycle. The result showed that the students’ speaking skill improved. It can be noticed that there was an improvement in every cycle from the students’ behavior and achievement. Action learning strategies facilitate the students to speak in way, they reduce students’ anxiety so they can speak freely without being afraid to make a mistake, they increase the students’ motivation in learning speaking, and the most important the students do not think that English is a difficult subject. Abstract

Punjungan is a tradition of giving meals to the neighbor for expressing gratitude. It had been happened for long time, however this tradition is still applied by Javanese in Indonesia. Moreover, It is also implemented by Javanese who live in Central Lampung. This research aims at revealing the values of the punjungan and the consequences of this custom among the community. Moreover, this study used Pierces’ Semiotics analysis and the theory of gift by Strauss. It is descriptive qualitative research that used interview and observation as the way to collecting data. Then, the data analyzed interactively. The data obtained from respondent of central Lampung citizen especially Sritejokencono village. It was found that the tradition is still applied and has a function as an invitation that has consequences for the receiver to attend the invitation. Abstract

The artcile aims to clarify what types of code mixes are used in TV advertisements and why code mixing is used because a trend or style of speech in society, particularly among young people has evolved in the phenomenon of mixing code and changing code. Bilingualism always involves the use of code mixing in the daily conversation of people. This research was carried out with a qualitative description. The research used transcript by note as an instrument, for the purpose of this research. Note that the video transcription method was used. The information is 30 ads. Data from this research were all published on Tuesday, 1 June 2021, through Saturday 6 June 2021, by the 30 television ads selected by the researchers. The result is a compatible lexicalization and insertion which appears as types of code mixing in the advertising. and 4 reasons were found, namely talking on a specific subject, interjection, intention to clarify the content of the speech and group identity expression. Abstract

This article aimed of investigating the causes of students’ speaking anxiety at a Private Junior High School at Salatiga, Central Java. The method used case study. This study used a set of questionnaires distributed to sixty-six participants from grade 7 to grade 9. The participants were asked to choose the causes of their speaking anxiety offered in the questionnaire items according to their personal opinions. The questionnaire items were developed based on the literature used in this study. After that, the quantitative data were presented and then the data were described and interpreted. The results of this study revealed that the major factor contributing to the participants’ speaking anxiety was the concern about accuracy and grammar. Interestingly, the quantitative data of this study showed that a significant number of participants were less anxious especially when dealing with classroom settings and activities, and teachers. The result of the study was expected to contribute to student teachers and language teachers in general. This study helped them to be aware that speaking anxiety may exist among EFL students, hence they could develop their teaching methods and approaches in teaching speaking to minimize their students’ anxiety and to give more exposure to English for their students. Abstract

The article analyzed how the developing student worksheet based educational comic at sevent grade of SMP Taruna Jaya and to know the differences in student learning outcomes before and after the teacher used a student worksheet based educational comic at sevent grade of SMP Taruna Jaya. This research was conducted at seventh grade in first semester at SMP Taruna Jaya. This method used Research and Development (R&D). In this case, the research carried out only produces product designs, and the design is validated internally (experts and practitioners' opinions) but is not produced or not tested, external (field testing). The results of validation by a team of material expert validators, media experts and pre-test and post-test learners on products that are being developed have been declared valid. It was based on the results of validation of material experts and media experts by two lecturers and two teachers get a percentage of eligibility assessment of 90% with the criteria "very Feasible". While the results of pre-test and post-test learners obtained that the post-test value was higher than the pre-test value, the product is said to be effective for use. Abstract

The focus of this research is on Makassar's linguistic landscape of food advertisements. The study's goals are to determine the language used in food advertisements in Makassar city and to describe the roles of the Makassar language employed in food advertisements. This study uses the descriptive qualitative method. The data are analyzed based on Canoz and Gorter’s theory (2006). The findings show that English is the most frequently used language in food advertisements in the city center of Makassar. The other languages utilized in advertisements include Indonesian, English, Makassar, and Mandarin. This study also found the function of using English in advertisements is a promotional medium and the identity of each store. Additionally, using a foreign language has a trendy and stylish impact, which improves product quality, intrigues buyers, and attracts their attention. Even though many offers in advertisements are not understood by consumers, all of the functions indicated by all informants allude to the benefits of utilizing English in their product advertisements, notably the increased sales value. Abstract

This article aims to reveal the learning of patterns and cultural influences of perceptive mental processes in Angkola language with a Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) approach. This is because learning research tends to offer research related to language learning models and language learning media from various perspectives. Meanwhile, the content of the learning is still limited to be analyzed in certain grammar. This research offers perceptive mental process learning based on one of the regional languages in Indonesia, namely Angkola language which needs to be raised considering that this language still includes native speakers. Thus, the Angkola language must be included in the list of documentation of languages and oral traditions that should be preserved in order to maintain the wealth of the archipelago. The method used is descriptive qualitative with transitivity analysis. The results of the analysis show that the Angkola community in expressing perceptive mental processes produces two patterns, one sequential pattern and one non-sequential pattern. However, for non-sequential patterns, after the process is not followed by sensing but is followed by a phenomenon then sensing afterwards. The uniqueness and symptoms of this strangeness are found in the study of perceptive mental processes in the Angkola language. Therefore, according to the presentation of the analysis, it can be proven the consistency, prevalence and acceptance of this pattern in transitivity in the Angkola language. Abstract

Technology plays a very important role in today's learning process. Online learning is not an option anymore but an obligation that must be carried out, especially during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Hybrid learning is one of the online learning that is widely used at all levels of education. This research is the initial research from development research that will develop a hybrid learning model based on religious moderation values in the teaching media course. The respondents in this study were 89 students majoring in English education at Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Metro Lampung. The data was obtained through the results of the questionnaire. The result showed that the students needed a hybrid learning teaching material model based on religious moderation values in the teaching media course. It was evidenced by the results of the questionnaire, namely as many as 80% of students state that they need a hybrid learning teaching material model based on religious moderation values in the eyes of teaching media lectures.
