Abstract

This study investigates the effect of dhikr therapy in reducing anxiety among children with cancer residing at the C-Four shelter in Banda Aceh. The objective is to explore whether dhikr can serve as an effective spiritual intervention to manage anxiety in pediatric cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. A quasi-experimental method was employed using a pretest-posttest control group design. The study involved 10 children divided into an experimental group receiving dhikr therapy and a control group without intervention. The Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) was used to measure anxiety levels before and after the intervention. Results showed a decrease in anxiety severity in the experimental group, with one subject shifting from “very severe” to “severe,” while no change was observed in the control group. However, statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests revealed no significant difference (p = 0.317 and p = 1.000, respectively). The findings suggest that while dhikr therapy has the potential to reduce anxiety levels, a longer intervention period and broader sample size may be required for statistically significant results. In conclusion, dhikr therapy may serve as a supportive spiritual approach to reduce anxiety in children with cancer during treatment

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition requiring effective self-care to prevent complications. However, many patients struggle with self-care due to limited health literacy, inadequate resources, and socio-cultural barriers. Objective: This systematic review examined the effectiveness of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) interventions in improving self-care, glycemic control, and quality of life for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a search across multiple databases (2018-2025) identified 12 eligible experimental or quasi-experimental studies. The results consistently demonstrated that DSME significantly improved diabetes outcomes. Result and Discussion: Participants showed enhanced self-efficacy, dietary adherence, self-care behaviors, and glycemic control (HbA1c reductions of 0.6% to 1.1%). Quality of life also improved, with some studies reporting a 7.2-fold increase in the likelihood of better health-related quality of life among DSME participants. Furthermore, innovative and contextually adapted delivery methods, such as SMS, booklets, and culturally specific models like “PASTI SEMBUH,” proved highly feasible and acceptable, particularly in resource-limited settings. Conclusion: DSME is a powerful, evidence-based intervention In conclusion, DSME is a powerful, evidence-based intervention that improves clinical outcomes, quality of life, and self-care capacity in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Integrating diverse and contextually relevant DSME methods into national health strategies, especially in low- and middle-income countries, is crucial for wider reach and effectiveness.

Abstract

Introduction: The increase in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Indonesia, including in Sigi District, Central Sulawesi Province, has prompted the need to strengthen early detection services through the POSBINDU NCD Program. Objective: To identify obstacles to the implementation of POSBINDU in the working area of the Kaleke Community Health Center. Method: Using a qualitative descriptive approach based on the framework of input, process, and output aspects. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with four key informants involved in POSBINDU PTM. Result and Discussion: The results of the study indicate that the constraints include limited funding that is entirely dependent on Health Operational Assistance (BOK), low quality of human resources due to a lack of ongoing training, and facilities without adequate maintenance support. In addition, the implementation of POSBINDU activities has not been consistent with standard operating procedures and the simultaneous use of manual and digital recording systems. Furthermore, low participation among the productive age group is attributed to rigid schedules and non-strategic activity locations, compounded by equipment limitations that affect the completeness of services. Conclusions: This study concludes that POSBINDU PTM has limitations in terms of structural readiness, human resource quality, and adequate logistical support.

Abstract

Introduction: The nutritional and health status of pregnant women in Indonesia remains a public health concern. Malnutrition during pregnancy is influenced by several factors, including education level, maternal age, and parity. Education affects health behavior, while pregnant women under 20 and over 35 years are at higher risk of experiencing Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). High parity can also contribute to maternal and fetal health complications. Objective: This study aims to determine the association between maternal education, age, and parity with the nutritional status of pregnant women at the Majalaya Health Center in 2024. Method: A quantitative study was conducted using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design. The independent variables were maternal education, age, and parity, while the dependent variable was nutritional status. A total sampling technique was used, involving 61 pregnant women. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with the Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) software. Results and Discussion: The findings showed that 30.3% of women with low education levels experienced CED, compared to 10.7% with higher education. Among those at risk age (<20 or >35), 30.0% experienced CED, while only 17.1% at non-risk age did. Women with high parity showed a 33.3% incidence of CED, while those with low parity had 13.5%. There was a significant association between maternal education, age, and parity with nutritional status. Conclusion: Education, age, and parity are significantly associated with the nutritional status of pregnant women. It is recommended that health promotion programs be enhanced to improve maternal knowledge and practices during pregnancy, particularly for those with low education, high parity, and at-risk age groups.

Abstract

Introduction: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by hypertension and organ dysfunction after 20 weeks of gestation, often associated with adverse maternal and fetal outcomes, including oligohydramnios. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the severity of preeclampsia and the occurrence of oligohydramnios. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted using medical records of 105 preeclamptic patients at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, in 2023. The severity of preeclampsia was the independent variable, and oligohydramnios was the dependent variable. Data were analyzed using the Fisher Exact test. Result and Discussion: The study sample consisted of a relatively balanced proportion of preeclampsia without severe features (50.5%) and preeclampsia with severe features (49.5%). Only 5.7% of pregnant women with preeclampsia experienced oligohydramnios. There was no significant association between the severity of preeclampsia and oligohydramnios (p=0.981). The findings showed an equal distribution of oligohydramnios cases across both groups. Conclusion: The severity of preeclampsia is not associated with oligohydramnios. However, these findings indicate that oligohydramnios can occur not only in cases of preeclampsia with severe features but also in those without severe features. Placental insufficiency leads to decreased uteroplacental blood flow.

Abstract

Introduction: Preeclampsia is linked to abnormal placental vasoconstriction and elevated endothelin-1 (ET-1). Polyphenols in Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) has antioxidant and vasoprotective properties, but its impact on ET-1 and placental microvasculature in preeclampsia is unclear. Objective: Investigate whether EVOO can attenuate hypertension and improve placental vascular health in preeclampsia. Method: 20 pregnant rats randomly assigned to five groups: normal (K−), preeclampsia model (K+), and three EVOO-treated groups (D1, D2, D3) receiving 0.5, 1, and 2 mL/day, respectively. Preeclampsia was induced with L-NAME, blood pressure was monitored on gestational days 12, 15, and 19. Placental ET-1 expression and microvessel diameter were assessed on day 19 using immunohistochemistry. Result and Discussion: EVOO treatment normalized blood pressure by gestational day 19. ET-1 expression increased with EVOO dose suggesting a role in vascular remodelling. Microvessel diameter improved in D1 and D2 but slightly decreased in D3. Conclusions: EVOO mitigates hypertension and enhances placental microvasculature in preeclampsia, with optimal effects at moderate doses.
