Abstract

The objectives of this study are as follows: (1) to identify the history learning process at Senior High Schools; (2) to examine the factors contributing to the lack of student interest in history subjects at the senior high school level; (3) to explore efforts to increase students’ interest in learning history. The research method used is qualitative with a library research approach. Data sources were obtained through observations and interviews conducted with teachers and students. The data analysis techniques applied include data reduction, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that: (1) The history learning process in Senior High Schools is generally still conventional, dominated by lecture methods and written assignments. This leads to low student engagement in the learning process, which negatively affects their interest and understanding of historical material; (2) The limited use of visual media, documentary videos, or digital technology in history learning makes the material feel dry and difficult to understand, especially for students with visual and kinesthetic learning styles; (3) The implementation of varied, interactive, contextual learning methods combined with digital-era technology integration can help increase students’ interest in learning history.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of the traditional Mesiwah Pare ritual into Mesiwah Pare Gumboh among the Dayak Deah community in Liyu Village, South Kalimantan. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research identifies significant impacts across three main dimensions: social, cultural, and economic. Socially, the ritual shifted from a kinship-based practice to a more structured collective celebration, fostering public solidarity while reducing the intimate familial role of individual farmers. Culturally, the integration of performing arts and festival formats has created a duality between preserving cultural identity and the potential erosion of sacred values. Economically, the ritual transitioned from a self-funded tradition to an event supported by sponsorships and government programs, opening local economic opportunities but raising concerns over cultural commodification. These findings highlight that cultural adaptation can strengthen community participation and promote local heritage, though it still requires careful strategies to preserve spiritual values amid modernization.

Abstract

The ogoh-ogoh tradition, originally rooted in Balinese Hindu culture, has also developed in transmigration areas such as Dusun 2, Maju Sejahtera Village, Karang Bintang Subdistrict, Tanah Bumbu Regency. This study addresses two main questions: how the ogoh-ogoh tradition was introduced into a transmigrant community, and how local residents interpret its meaning. Positioned to fill a gap in existing research, this study explores how Balinese Hindu traditions adapt outside of Bali. Using historical methods, the research follows four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data were collected through interviews with ten key informants and field documentation. Findings show that ogoh-ogoh has been practiced since 1985 and has evolved in form, meaning, and participation—especially among youth organized under STT Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The ogoh-ogoh is viewed not only as a symbolic figure to drive away negative forces before Nyepi, but also as a medium for cultural expression, social solidarity, and community identity among Hindus in migration settings. This study demonstrates that tradition can adapt to new environments without losing its core essence. The results of this study are important for strengthening Balinese cultural identity in transmigrant areas. Future research may further explore interreligious relations and the transformation of cultural values through digital and social media.

Abstract

The understanding and interpretation of a historical event will inevitably change over time. This shift is closely related to the cultivation of collective memory within each generation, shaped by the knowledge they acquire. This study aims to explore the various understandings and interpretations held by both younger and older generations regarding the incident of the assassination of Governor Suryo in Ngawi Regency, East Java. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, with primary data obtained through interviews conducted in Kauman Village, Widodaren District, and in Planggarem and Planglor Villages, Sidolaju District, Ngawi Regency, from May 11 to 17, 2025. The results of the study indicate a clear shift in understanding and interpretation between the older and younger generations. The older generation possesses a deeper understanding due to their geographical proximity, direct experiences, and the continuation of oral traditions. They interpret this historical event as part of a heritage and a symbol of struggle that must be preserved. On the other hand, the younger generation tends to have a more superficial understanding, primarily gained through formal education and social media, and tends to interpret the event functionally, using it as a moral lesson and a rational approach to fostering nationalism. This generational shift has contributed to a declining concern for the preservation of monuments and local historical traditions. This study highlights the importance of strengthening local historical literacy and implementing local history education interventions to ensure the continuity of collective memory within society and to foster intergenerational nationalism.

Abstract

The main question addressed in this study is how the implementation of the Independent Curriculum and the work environment influence the work motivation of SLB teachers, and the extent to which social competence strengthens or weakens this relationship. This study aims to analyze the influence of the implementation of the Independent Curriculum and the work environment on teacher work motivation, with social competence as a moderating variable. The method used was quantitative with an explanatory research approach. The study sample consisted of 92 teachers from 12 SLBs in Tulungagung Regency, selected proportionally. Data analysis used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Squares (PLS). The results showed that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum (β = 0.846; p < 0.001) and the work environment (β = 0.846; p < 0.001) had a positive and significant effect on work motivation. However, social competence, as a moderator variable, weakened this relationship (β = -0.563; p < 0.001), indicating that teachers with high levels of social competence tend to face emotional burden and role conflict that hinder motivation. This study suggests the need for psychosocial support and workload management to ensure that social competence does not become a burden, but rather a professional strength for teachers. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for formulating policies to continuously improve the quality of special education teachers.

Abstract

In the digital era, history learning in schools faces the challenge of low student historical literacy which is reflected in the weak understanding of chronology, historical concepts and source analysis skills. This research aims to analyse the integration of digital storytelling into the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model as a strategy to strengthen students' historical literacy. Using the Systematic Literature Review approach, 15 primary articles from various journals and proceedings were systematically reviewed. The results of the study revealed that the application of digital storytelling in PjBL effectively improved the five indicators of historical literacy namely historical knowledge, conceptual understanding, source analysis skills, historical awareness and the use of historical language with more active student participation and more contextual narratives. Constraints such as limited infrastructure, teacher competence and access to credible sources are still the main obstacles. Therefore, intensive training for teachers, strengthening digital infrastructure and adaptive curriculum integration are needed to ensure the effectiveness of technology-based history learning models in Indonesia and support the implementation of Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Social Studies learning in junior high schools still faces the common problem of low student motivation and creativity due to the dominance of conventional methods and unengaging instructional media. This study aims to develop an educational video using the Canva application as an alternative digital learning media for eighth-grade Social Studies at SMP Negeri 1 Pucanglaban. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research instruments included expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, creativity tests, and student motivation questionnaires. The validation results indicated that the Canva-based educational video met the criteria of content, visual, and technical validity. Trial results showed that the media was found to be practical for teachers and easily accessible for students via digital devices. Its effectiveness was evident through increased student creativity, demonstrated by indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Furthermore, students’ learning motivation also increased significantly, especially in terms of attention, material relevance, self-confidence, and learning satisfaction. Thus, Canva-based educational videos are suitable to be used as innovative Social Studies learning media that promote active engagement and optimal student development.
