Abstract

This study aims at finding out and comparing students' ability in identifying abuse(s) in argumentdeductions between science students and social science students. The design of this study is a descriptivequalitative. There were 108 students involved as the respondents (52 science students and 56 socialscience students). The instrument utilized was ten arguments taken from Guth (1969), which is aspecified test to drill argument analysis—aligning content validity for this current study. Therespondents were asked to analyze these arguments and find out the deduction abuses. Their approachin analyzing each argument was further interpreted through data analysis. There were a total of 1080analyses, but 477 analyses of which were discarded due to a biased approach. The data were analyzedusing thematic and interactive analysis. The result shows that, among science students, the mostemployed approach is faulty premise (199 analyses), followed by misleading statistics (53 analyses),hidden premise (37 analyses), equivocation (10), and circular premise (4 analyses). Meanwhile, amongsocial science students, the majority also exploited the faulty premise (137 analyses). Additionally, thehidden premise was also engaged in a great number (130 analyses), equivocation (40), followed bymisleading statistics (9 analyses), and circular premise (2 analyses). These findings circumstantiallyimply that, in learning, students with a science background are better at capturing stated details, whilestudents with a social science background are competent at spotting both stated and unstated details inarguments. It is suggested that teachers should balance the students’ reasoning approaches, regardlessof their academic backgrounds to achieve learning objectives. Keywords: logic, students’ cognition, deduction, reasoning skills, and teaching and learning.

Abstract

This paper aimed to identify: 1) the participant’s ability or disability to implement and utilize what they had learned, and 2) the participants’ financial behavioral changes and attitude changes towards managing money. Using the convenience sampling method, thirty attendees of the managing-money training project were selected to participate in Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The interview questions were based on the OECD/INFE questionnaire of adult financial literacy. From the FGDs, it was found that most participants mainly relied on agricultural business, labor work, or private micro or small businesses. The FGDs also revealed that the participants had a general understanding of the basic financial knowledge, the implementation of income and expense tracking, budgeting as well as savings. Doing a family account was reported to be a new activity among the participants’ families. Children’s behaviors on expenses and irregular income streams were also found to be the major causes of their financial pressure. Developing the ability to balance income and expenses can be one solution for them to live without debt. However, some of the participants said that they did not have financial goals and would rather live for today than plan for tomorrow. Keywords: finance, saving-behaviors, money-management

Abstract

Health crisis management is prioritized on health crisis risk reduction consisting of pre-health crisis stage, health crisis emergency response stage, and post-health crisis stage. Prevention and mitigation efforts at the pre-health crisis stage, in the context of our study, aim to develop an information system for health crisis management. Information system for health crisis, in general, is provided by the Health Agency. In this study, we discussed the system applied by the Health Agency of Aceh Tengah that still uses a manual information system for reporting during disasters. Hence, it causes a delay of the information updates despite the emergency situation. To overcome this problem, we proposed a newly developed health crisis management reporting system in disaster risk reduction. We used a Research and Development approach with Heuristic Review Analysis to assess the performance of the proposed system. The scope of the study was limited to the development of a new reporting system and system test on users. The research subjects were disaster officers and heads of 14 health centers involved in the health crisis reporting in Aceh Tengah. Improvements can be made in the future through trainings and system adjustments supported by institutional policies. Keywords: Health crisis, disasters, website, reporting system.

Abstract

The population of entrepreneurs in Indonesia has increased from 1.6% to 3.47%. The number of women who work in the field of entrepreneurship is now 2.4 times more than men although the businesses for women tend to be smaller and grow more slowly than those for men. There are some constraints causing women to be reluctant to practice entrepreneurship, such as limited information, lack of profiles to imitate, limited access to business finance, lack of experience in doing business, and a low level of confidence to start and develop a business. Low level of education and ideological barriers of women related to the household, known as the "triple burden of women", are also among the constraints. The independent variables of this research were social condition variables (X1 ) and economic conditions (X2 ) while the dependent one was the number of Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) (Y). The research population was the social and economic conditions and the number of SMEs from 27 districts of West Java. The samples were limited to only the data from 2016 – 2020 (5 years). The data analysis technique used for this research was panel data regression analysis. The results show that social and economic conditions have a positive and significant impact on the number of SMEs in 27 districts in West Java with an R 2 2 score of 99%. Abstract

Increasing population growth in urban areas is generally accompanied by increasingly narrow job opportunities, causing many urban residents to carry out activities in the informal sectors, such as  small-scale trading activities. These activities are generally carried out by most residents living on theside of the main road. More than 50% of the residents’ houses on Jalan Merdeka Street of Kambang Iwak Palembang have changed their function to a commercial building; thus, it is necessary to conduct research on the trade public space that grows in the area. This research is field research that collectedvisual data and interviews with related parties. Research showed that the emergence of commercial public space in housing is caused by the proximity of the house and the relationship between the house and road space. The trading space functions as a public space, forming attributes in the form of accessibility, visibility, sociality, and adaptability. Commercial public spaces take place in the house and yard because they have proximity, visuality, adaptation, and activity related to public spaces.
