Abstract

The Cempaka Women's Farmers Group (KWT Cempaka) in Langung Village, Meurebo District, West Aceh Regency, has used water hyacinth as raw material for making organic compost which has quite large economic and environmental potential. However, compost products still face challenges in marketing, especially regarding product identity, packaging design and branding strategies that have not been developed optimally. This community service program aims to increase the marketing capacity of water hyacinth compost products through branding and product packaging training. The methods used include education, participatory training, logo design workshops, assistance with product label design, and the introduction of attractive and informative packaging techniques. This program was implemented with KWT Cempaka members as the main participants. The results show an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of branding in product marketing, increased ability to develop brand identity, and the creation of more attractive logo and packaging designs with higher market value. Through this program, the water hyacinth compost products produced by KWT Cempaka have the opportunity for greater market acceptance and increased competitiveness, thus supporting the sustainable development of group business activities. However, at this stage KWT. Cempaka is still marketing it in simple rice jute packaging and in the future it will use more attractive packaging.

Abstract

The enormous potential of coconuts in North Lombok Regency has encouraged many parties to take an interest in the coconut industry. Unfortunately, the majority of coconut production is sold off-island in the form of whole coconuts, meaning that the economic impact on the development of North Lombok’s economy remains sub-optimal. The presence of coconut processors in Pemenang Sub-district is seen as capable of generating added value, albeit on a relatively small scale. This is due to the numerous business challenges still faced by these coconut processors. This reality has led to uncertainty amongst the artisans regarding which aspect to address first in order to overcome the problems they are currently facing. For this reason, this problem-tree mapping support activity was carried out to guide the artisans in identifying the root causes of the problems. The support began with observation and interviews with key coconut processors, followed by a focus group discussion (FGD) at the coconut processing centre in Pemenang. Previously, the artisans were unable to determine which problems needed to be addressed immediately; however, through this initiative, they have begun to realise that not all problems need to be resolved—it is sufficient to tackle those that constitute the root causes. It is hoped that this mentoring process will serve as a starting point for ongoing capacity-building in the development of coconut processing in Pemenang Sub-district.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve students’ creative thinking skills through mentoring in developing digital educational games using Adobe Flash CS6 at SMA Negeri 10 Palembang. The implementation was carried out through several stages, namely socialization, workshops, hands-on practice, and coaching clinic. A total of 24 students participated in both face-to-face and online sessions. Data were collected using pre-test, post-test, and a satisfaction questionnaire, and were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed a significant increase in students’ cognitive abilities, indicated by the improvement of the average score from 69.16 in the pre-test to 90.41 in the post-test. The N-Gain analysis demonstrated high improvement in the indicators of game concept (0.95) and design basics (1.00), while coding skills were in the moderate category (0.61). Students’ creative thinking skills also increased, particularly in fluency (83%), flexibility (74%), and originality (77%). In addition, the level of participant satisfaction reached 80–100% in all aspects assessed, indicating that the program was considered useful, easy to follow, and relevant to learning needs. Thus, mentoring in developing educational games with Adobe Flash CS6 is effective in enhancing digital literacy and creative thinking skills of high school students.

Abstract

This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve home environmental sanitation and personal hygiene as an effort to prevent stunting in Liliba Village, Kupang City, an area with a relatively high stunting rate. The activity was carried out at the Melati 11 Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) and targeted mothers with stunted toddlers and Posyandu cadres. The intervention was carried out through health education on home sanitation and personal hygiene, knowledge assessments using pre- and post-tests, and the repair of one family toilet unit that previously did not meet environmental health requirements. The results of the activity showed an average increase in knowledge of participating mothers by 7–8% after the education, accompanied by an increased understanding of clean and healthy living practices (PHBS). The enthusiasm of the participants in the discussion indicated a good receptivity to the material. In addition, the toilet repair has resulted in a sanitation facility that meets healthy toilet standards and is expected to serve as a model for other families. Overall, this program is effective in increasing the knowledge, awareness, and quality of sanitation of families at risk of stunting. This activity also supports the achievement of the STBM pillars, especially Stop Open Defecation (BABS), and provides a real and sustainable impact on the community.

Abstract

Malaka Village has extraordinary natural potential in both the agricultural and fisheries sectors. One of the agricultural potentials of Malacca village is producing nuts. The potential fishery is producing tuna. Apart from its extraordinary natural wealth, Malacca village has an important problem to overcome, namely the high rate of stunting. The village government has made many efforts to reduce stunting rates over the last 5 years, one of which is providing nutrition for pregnant women and children. Shredded Tongkol is an alternative protein that can be consumed by children who are diagnosed with stunting, because the nutritional content in it is complex. The objectives of this service are: (1) providing information on nutritious food for pregnant women, children and teenagers; (2) training in making more innovative shredded cob; (3) Training on packaging for shredded cob products to produce economic value which has an impact on increasing income. The methods used are socialization and training, application of technology, evaluation and assistance in future sustainability. Training on making shredded cob and packaging training has been carried out and these activities have increased the knowledge and skills of partners. It is hoped that in the future partners will be able to produce abon cob typical of Malaka Village, with the aim of increasing community income.

Abstract

West Seram Regency has a coconut plantation area of 8,326.10 hectares, with a total production of 7,390.5 tons and an average productivity of 0.89 tons per hectare. Nearly all parts of the coconut plant can be utilized, including the trunk, leaves, fruit, husk, and shell. The use of mature coconuts for copra production is one of the ways to increase the income of coastal communities, particularly in Saweli Village, located in West Seram Regency. However, copra production in Saweli Village, which is generally carried out using traditional or home-industry methods, has not yet reached optimal results in terms of production time and output quantity. One of the main challenges faced by the community is the lengthy process of removing the coconut husk and shell during copra production. The current pre-processing stage remains conventional, as coconuts are peeled manually using traditional tools. Therefore, through this Community Empowerment Program (PMS), we aim to introduce transformative learning to help develop and empower the local community, particularly in Saweli Village, Taniwel District, West Seram Regency, Maluku. This initiative focuses on supporting small-scale entrepreneurs whose production processes have not yet met market standards.
