Abstract

The political image of female politicians and artists on the political stage is still a hot and interesting topic of discussion in society. Many people still believe that celebrity politicians, especially women, only rely on popularity to win and be elected as members of the House of Representatives. It is not only limited to that, the participation of female artist politicians could be based on government policy regarding a 30% quota, or it could also be due to political education and the influence of technology that has encouraged female artists to be present in the political field. However, negative images and assumptions still prevail due to the construction of artists being chosen just because they are popular to gain votes. Therefore, this research aims to see how the media frames news so that it can construct the audience's thoughts about the political image of female politicians and artists. This research uses a qualitative method using Robert M. Entman's framing analysis approach, where the analysis uses four elements which have become the basis for analysis to dissect how Kompas.com and Tempo. co media frame news. The results of this research show that the political image of female celebrity politicians as members of the House of Representatives still lacks trust from the public. This cannot be separated from the fact that the highlighted news does not cover much about their performance as members of the People's Representative Council, but more about their style and style. their lives as artists. Therefore, the suggestions and recommendations recommended are that, apart from politicians, artists must continue to show consistent performance as members of the people's representatives, they must also be supported by media reports which must highlight their performance, professionalism and abilities as politicians. In this way, the image of artist politicians in society can change to be more trusting and supportive of the role of artists in government. Furthermore, the researcher hopes that this scientific work can provide scientific development and contribute to efforts to build a good political climate.

Abstract

The Sexual Violence Crime Bill (RUU TPKS) was ratified by Indonesia's Parliament (DPR RI) on April 12, 2022, generating significant public interest that peaked between April 10-16, 2022. Online media outlets capitalized on this momentum. This study examines news framing by three media outlets using framing theory and ekspression concepts through qualitative framing analysis. Results show that during April 10-16, 2022, Suaramerdeka.com published 3 articles on RUU TPKS, while Kompas.com published 35 and CNNIndonesia.com published 18. Kompas.com's extensive coverage reflects its business-oriented approach, engaging in commodification practices for political-economic interests. Nevertheless, Kompas.com maintained balanced reporting with sufficient moral content to educate the public about protection for sexual crime victims, unlike CNNIndonesia.com and Suaramerdeka.com, whose coverage lacked moral framing.

Abstract

Impulsive buying behavior is increasingly becoming a trend after the existence of marketplaces that make it easier for consumers to buy an item. Currently, active e-commerce users in Indonesia continue to grow with increasingly massive digital activities. Fashion is an item that is more purchased by women in online shopping. The persuasion of advertisements featuring products that claim to perfect women's appearance is a hot-selling commodity. The depiction of the entanglement of consumerism is shown in the Pay Later series. This series tells the story of Tika, the main character, who becomes the object of consumerism. By using the critical discourse analysis method of Sara Mills, which focuses on feminism and in line with this research, which is based on the theory of postmodern feminism, the results show the subject-object position that this series provides an overview of women as objects of consumerism where looking beautiful with beautiful goods is a requirement for women to look more attractive. The use of pay later, which provides flexibility in terms of payment, is attractive to the main character without being accompanied by adequate financial literacy skills. This is what makes the main character get entangled in paying later debt. The high interest rate and relatively short deadline are the problems that are then faced. For the sake of appearing charming, the main character is haunted by debt collectors in his daily life.

Abstract

Many Indonesian Diaspora are studying as international students at various universities worldwide. Cross-cultural communication plays a vital role in actualizing Indonesian students, especially in interacting with local residents. This study aims to determine the pattern of cross-cultural interaction and understand the six cultural dimensions in the Asian continent through the perspective of the Indonesian Diaspora, namely Indonesian students abroad. This research examines the construction of meaning that occurs using research instruments in the form of in-depth interviews and documentation studies in the perspective of Hofstede's Cultural Dimension Theory. This research is based on the cross-cultural communication paradigm, namely dialectics as an integration between functionalist and critical paradigms with a descriptive qualitative research approach. The study results indicate a discrepancy between Hofstede's functional data and the social reality experienced by diaspora students. Several cultural dimensions, such as power distance, individualism vs collectivism, and indulgence vs restraint, experience reinterpretation in everyday social practices. Communities with low individualism scores tend to be closed to foreigners, while collectivist societies show openness and responsiveness to newcomers. These findings confirm that cultural dimensions are contextual and dynamic and are greatly influenced by the negotiation of meaning in intercultural social interactions. Thus, this study enriches the understanding of cultural flexibility and the importance of a micro approach in reading cross-cultural communication in international education.

Abstract

This study examines the political communication implemented by the incumbent Regent of Banggai in an effort to increase electability in the 2024 Banggai Regional Election. Amidst increasing voter rationality and the complexity of local political dynamics, political communication has become a crucial instrument for building image, expanding support, and strengthening leadership legitimacy. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design and applies Harold D. Lasswell's communication model of Who says what in which channel to whom with what effect? to analyze the communication carried out. The main informants in this study consisted of eight figures, including the incumbent, his winning team, and coalition party leaders. The results show that the incumbent acts as the main communicator with a political narrative that emphasizes development success, increased regional budget (APBD), religious character, and social closeness. The communication channels used include formal channels (mass media, billboards, and government forums), informal channels (field visits, face-to-face), and digital channels (Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook), which are tailored to voter segmentation, such as religious voters, millennials, rational voters, and swing voters. The communication effects showed a significant increase in electability, public engagement, and the formation of a positive image of the incumbent as a religious, responsive, and visionary leader. By integrating a media convergence approach, values-based messaging, and structured audience segmentation, the incumbent's political communication strategy proved effective in maintaining and expanding public support. This research contributes to the development of political communication studies, particularly in the local context and regional head elections.
