Abstract

Self-regulated learning is the skill of organizing and directing oneself in the process of learning. Every student should possess self-regulated learning skills in order to achieve high academic performance. Various factors influence a student's self-regulated learning during their educational journey. According to social cognitive theory, these factors are the result of the reciprocal interaction between individual characteristics, behavior, and the environment. This research primarily focuses on environmental factors, namely parental support and peer support. Both parental support and peer support play a role in shaping self-regulated learning. The research aims to empirically examine the contribution of parental support and peer support to self-regulated learning. The research employs a quantitative methodology and takes the form of an ex post facto study. The study population consists of 385 students in the 11 grade from SLTA A and B in Yogyakarta. A random sample of 77 students was chosen independently. Data were collected using instruments, including a self-regulated learning scale, a parental support scale, and a peer support scale. The empirical results of the study reveal that both parental support and peer support significantly contribute to self-regulated learning, with an F value of 36.703 and p-value of 0.000 (p<0.01). When examined separately, parental support significantly and positively contributes to self-regulated learning, with a t-value of 2.032 and a p-value of 0.046 (p<0.05). Peer support also significantly and positively contributes to self-regulated learning, with a t-value of 8.325 and a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.01). Partially, parental support contributed 2.79% and friend support contributed 47.01% to self-regulated learning, and the rest was influenced by other factors.

Abstract

Academic stress refers to the pressure a person faces when dealing with academic demands. It is characterized by a variety of reactions, including physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses. The aim of this research is to empirically test the extent to which resilience contributes to academic stress among health students taking online learning at "X" University in the Bangka Belitung Islands during the New Normal period. The method used in this research is a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis. The sample for this study consisted of 143 health students at "X" University in the Bangka Belitung Islands, selected using cluster random sampling. Data was collected using a scale that measures the level of academic stress and the level of student resilience. The research results show that resilience plays a negative role in students' academic stress during online learning in the new normal period. The higher the level of resilience a student has, the lower their academic stress will be. Resilience accounts for 45.2% of the variance in academic stress, while the remaining 54.8% is influenced by other variables. These findings have important implications, showing that students need to enhance their resilience in order to reduce academic stress levels. In the context of online learning during the New Normal period, resilience can be a factor that helps students successfully cope with the academic pressure they face. Further research and holistic approaches to student well-being should also be considered to support increased resilience and reduced academic stress.

Abstract

Academic performance is a learning result that is measured by examination score. A few studies show that Academic Performance is influenced by contingent self-worth. But there is no study that examines if academic performance can be influenced by self-compassion and appearance contingent self-worth. Self-compassion directly influences someone’s ability to evaluate themselves. Appearance contingent self-worth is when someone puts their self-worth in their appearance. This study is conducted to examine the influence of self-compassion and appearance contingent self-worth toward academic performance of junior high school and senior high school students in X school located at North Jakarta. This study uses quantitative methods. Participants were 115 students aged 12 to 18 Junior High School and Senior High School students. Data was collected by questionnaire and examination score. Data collection for variables of academic performance is by math final exam score. Data collection techniques for variables of self-compassion and self-worth contingent on the perception of appearance is a questionnaire whose details are based on self-worth scale and self-compassion scale. The scale used in this study uses a rating scale that is Likert. The result of this study is that self-compassion and appearance contingent self-worth influence academic performance by 7.8%. This research found that self-compassion has positive and significant influence to academic performance. Appearance contingent self-worth has negative and significant influence to academic performance. The next research might include students' perfectionist tendencies and its influences to academic performance.

Abstract

Nowadays, there are many cases of sexual orientation deviations such as homosexuality circulating among society. Homosexuals are a minority whose existence, both from a religious and social perspective, is undesirable, so they often receive various forms of rejection in the social, educational or work environment. , the ban on the existence of homosexuals gave rise to a community called homophobia. The emergence of homophobia as a form of society's rejection of the existence of homosexuals is increasingly common in society. People who have sexual deviance problems are very vulnerable to mental health problems such as anxiety, low self-esteem, unhappiness, problems with sexual satisfaction, use of illegal drugs, depression, and even suicide attempts, in contrast to people who have heterosexual orientation who do not have mental problems related to their sexual orientation. Sexual orientation problems experienced by a person are related to personality. This research aims to determine the differences in the big five personality dimensions based on sexual orientation. Abstract

Humans are essentially created as social creatures and need each other to interact with each other. Human life coexists with other humans, so social interaction cannot be avoided. As humans, we must be sensitive and respectful of each other. One of the social interaction capitals is the ability to empathize. Empathy can be defined as when an individual can feel what others feel, and this can be explained from a neuroscience perspective. The mirror neuron is one of the small parts of the brain that has the primary function as a mirror within the individual, in other words it is the center of the process where empathy occurs. The purpose of this study is to investigate the function of mirror neurons that are closely related to human empathy processes and the damage or dysfunction that occurs in it. Through literature studies, it is known that the mirror neurons are located in some parts of brain structures; in the premotor area and the lower parietal cortex. Mirror neurons generally project events around the individuals so the emotions and such behaviors are felt by the individuals. The lack of empathy experienced by some individuals with psychopathy as well as difficulty in understanding situations or responding to social cues in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be due to the dysfunction in mirror neurons. However, mirror neurons dysfunction still requires further research to be able to understand the role of mirror neurons in various aspects of mental processes and human behavior.
