Abstract

The Women’s Sterilization Method (MOW) is one of the most effective and efficient contraceptive methods to reduce birth rates or end pregnancies. This method offers optimal benefits with minimal side effects. Several factors may influence the choice of MOW contraception, including age, parity, education level, knowledge, attitude, husband’s support, healthcare workers’ support, and accessibility of services. This study aimed to determine the factors influencing the choice of MOW contraception among women of reproductive age at Lewoleba Public Health Center, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency. This was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. Sampling was conducted using proportional random sampling, involving 66 respondents. Data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test. The results showed a significant relationship between knowledge (p = 0.000), attitude (p = 0.000), husband’s support (p = 0.004), healthcare workers’ support (p = 0.000), and number of children (p = 0.000) and the selection of MOW. It is recommended that the Lewoleba Health Center continues to provide comprehensive and consistent education to enhance community understanding regarding long-term and permanent contraceptive methods.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical stage of development, where nutrition and health influence the quality of individuals in adulthood.. Adolescent nutritional status is influenced by various factors such as body image and fast food consumption. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between body image and the frequency of fast food consumption with nutritional status. This research employed a cross-sectional design involving 61 respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Body image was measured using the MBSRQ-AS questionnaire consisting of 33 items covering four aspects: appearance evaluation, body part satisfaction, fat anxiety, and body categorization. The frequency of fast food consumption was assessed using a FFQ, and nutritional status data were obtained through weight and height measurements using the BMI-for-age index. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test to examine the relationship between body image and the frequency of fast food consumption with nutritional status. The results showed that the majority of female adolescents had a positive body image (55.7%) and rarely consumed fast food (60.7%), with most having a good nutritional status (78.7%). The Spearman Rank test indicated a significant relationship between body image and nutritional status (p < 0.001), while there was no significant relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and nutritional status (p = 0.301). The conclusion of this study is that body image affects the nutritional status of female adolescents, whereas fast food consumption does not necessarily have a significant influence on nutritional status.

Abstract

Monkeypox (MPOX) is a zoonotic infection transmitted through direct contact between humans and animals. Although no confirmed cases have been reported in Malang Regency, Wendit Recreational Park (TRW) has a high potential for transmission due to human interaction with wild monkeys. This study aimed to determine the effect of community empowerment on preventive behavior (knowledge, attitudes, and practices) toward MPOX in the TRW area. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. A total of 60 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling and divided into intervention and control groups. Community empowerment was conducted through handwashing with soap (CTPS) demonstrations and educational flyers. Data were collected using questionnaires and CTPS observation sheets. Following the community empowerment intervention, significant improvements were observed in knowledge (p=0.000), attitudes (p=0.000), and preventive practices (p=0.000) regarding MPOX in both the intervention and control groups. These results contributed to the commitment of the TRW community to engage in MPOX prevention efforts, including the consistent application of the six-step handwashing with soap (CTPS) method. Community empowerment significantly influences MPOX prevention behavior around Wendit Recreational Park, Pakis, Malang Regency.

Abstract

Infertility due to ovulatory disorders presents a significant challenge in reproductive health, with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) being one of the leading causes. Metformin has been widely used in clinical practice to manage ovulatory dysfunction in women with PCOS, either as monotherapy or in combination with other therapeutic approaches. This narrative review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of metformin on clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) and live birth rate (LBR) through a critical appraisal of nine scientific publications published in the past ten years. Relevant literature was gathered through the PubMed database using selected keywords and screened based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Findings indicate that metformin provides beneficial effects on improving CPR, particularly when used as an adjunct therapy prior to IVF protocols or in combination with non-pharmacological approaches such as acupuncture. However, evidence related to LBR demonstrates greater variability. Overall, these findings support the role of metformin as part of an individualized, evidence-based fertility treatment strategy. This review offers important clinical implications for optimizing infertility management in women with PCOS.

Abstract

School health can be assessed through indicators of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior, particularly Handwashing with Soap and healthy snack consumption. These indicators are closely related to preventing communicable diseases such as diarrhea. According to the 2020 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI), the incidence of diarrhea in Indonesia reaches 9.8% of the total population, according to the latest estimates. In Samarinda City, diarrhea cases increased from 3,595 in 2021 to 4,981 in 2022, and rose again to 5,352 in 2023. This study adopts a quasi-experimental method with a pretest and posttest design on a single group of participants. As many as 30 fifth-grade students were selected using a simple random sampling procedure. The results showed a significant effect of health education using snakes and ladders media on improving students’ knowledge (p = 0.025) and attitudes (p = 0.000) after the intervention. The snakes and ladders game proved effective in improving students' knowledge and attitudes regarding HWWS and healthy snacks at SDN 003 Sungai Pinang, Samarinda. The results of this study can be utilized as a conceptual foundation by students, educational institutions, and study programs in the development of game-based learning media, as well as a basis for future scientific exploration.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) refers to an initiative aimed at motivating communities to take an active role as agents of change in enhancing overall health quality. However, PHBS implementation in schools remains low. This study examines the impact of health education using quartet card games on PHBS behavior among students at SDN 010 Loa Janan Ilir. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest approach. It included 74 fifth-grade students from SDN 010 Loa Janan Ilir, divided evenly into two groups—intervention and control—with 37 participants in each. Total sampling was used for participant selection. Univariate analysis revealed significant increases in knowledge (83.3%), attitudes (91.7%), and actions (58.3%) in the intervention group after the pretest and posttest, compared to increases in knowledge (8.3%), attitudes (8.3%), and actions (63.9%) in the control group. The bivariate analysis revealed statistically significant impacts on knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors within the intervention group (p-value = 0.000), indicating that quartet card games significantly influenced PHBS behavior implementation. The use of the quartet card game positively impacted the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of students regarding hygiene and health-oriented lifestyles at elementary school in Samarinda.

Abstract

Elderly individuals undergo various physical, psychological, and social changes that increase their risk of developing diseases, including hypertension. As hypertension is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke, blood pressure management is crucial. Self-care management plays a vital role in maintaining the health of the elderly, but it is influenced by self-efficacy, which is the elderly's belief in their ability to effectively care for themselves and adhere to treatment. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and self-care management in elderly individuals with hypertension in the working area of the Rangkasbitung Community Health Center. The research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design, and data analysis was performed using the Pearson Chi-Square test. Samples were selected using a purposive sampling method based on criteria predetermined by the researchers, followed by a quota sampling technique of 60 respondents who had a history of hypertension and were over 60 years old. The study results showed that 22 respondents (36.7%) had self-efficacy in the sufficient category, and 15 respondents (25%) were classified as lacking. Regarding self-care management, 40 respondents (66.7%) were in the poor category. The Pearson Chi-Square test yielded a p-value of 0.028, indicating a significant relationship between self-efficacy and self-care management in elderly individuals with hypertension.
