Abstract

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are infections transmitted through sexual contact and can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. STIs can affect anyone and may result in serious health consequences, particularly concerning the reproductive system. Adolescents are in a developmental phase characterized by high curiosity about sexual behavior, placing them at greater risk for unsafe sexual practices. Data shows that 59% of women and 74% of men have engaged in premarital sex. This study aims to examine STI prevention efforts among adolescents with multiple sexual partners in Samarinda City. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The study involved seven informants: one key informant, four main informants, and two supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. Research shows that adolescents have good knowledge about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and their types, but their attitude toward prevention remains low. Most informants did not use contraceptives during sexual intercourse. Lifestyle and external factors, such as peer influence and the use of online dating apps, also contribute to multi-partner sexual behavior. Adolescents' sexual activities range from physical intimacy, such as kissing, to engaging in sexual intercourse with more than one partner. Some informants consider this behavior to be common in modern relationships. Preventive measures taken by adolescents include using contraceptives during intercourse and maintaining genital hygiene. While adolescents demonstrate sufficient knowledge about STIs, their attitudes and preventive practices need significant improvement

Abstract

Pertussis is a respiratory infection that can be prevented through immunization and a clean and healthy lifestyle. However, pertussis cases are still found due to low public awareness in prevention. This study aims to identify factors that influence pertussis prevention behaviors among mothers in Reuloh and Dham Ceukok villages, Aceh Besar Regency. The study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample was taken by simple random sampling from mothers who have children aged ≤6 years, with data collected through questionnaires in January 2025 and analyzed using logistic regression in the STATA program. The results of univariate analysis showed that most respondents had good pertussis prevention behavior (52.2%), good personal hygiene (54.1%), and complete child immunization status (60.8%). Multivariate analysis showed that personal hygiene (OR = 3.772; p = 0.015) and child immunization status (OR = 0.321; p = 0.002) had a significant effect on pertussis prevention behavior. It was concluded that maternal personal hygiene and child immunization status are important factors in pertussis prevention. Education and improved access to immunization services need to be strengthened, especially in remote areas.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic condition characterized by persistently high blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin production, resistance to insulin action, or a combination of both factors. Emotional support from individuals closely connected to patients plays a vital role in strengthening psychological resilience. Open communication with family allows patients to receive support in managing nutrition, reminders for medication adherence, and moral encouragement during times of fatigue or emotional distress. This study employed a cross-sectional design involving 55 respondents selected through simple random sampling, ensuring equal opportunity for participation. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test to assess the relationship between variables. The results showed a statistically significant association between family support and medication adherence (p < 0.000; α = 0.05). These findings underscore the importance of family involvement in improving treatment compliance among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It is hoped that patients will be more open to accepting family support and fostering effective communication. Family involvement should include emotional reinforcement, consistent reminders to take medications, and the sharing of relevant information about dietary restrictions or lifestyle adjustments. Strengthening this supportive relationship can enhance motivation, improve adherence to pharmacological regimens, and ultimately contribute to better disease management outcomes.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a significant public health issue in Southeast Asia, with its transmission closely linked to climatic factors such as temperature, rainfall, and humidity. Climate change has intensified these factors, leading to increased mosquito breeding, faster virus replication, and broader geographic spread. This systematic review aims to examine the impact of climate change on DHF incidence in Southeast Asia. Using Sytematic Review methods with PRISMA guidelines flow, articles published from 2016 to 2025 were identified from PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and SageJournal databases. Fourteen relevant studies meeting inclusion criteria were analyzed in this research. The findings indicate that temperatures, increased rainfall, and high humidity significantly contribute to higher DHF transmission by supporting mosquito survival and virus development. Seasonal outbreaks are often observed during rainy seasons, and extreme climate events such as El Niño and La Niña further influence case surges. Based on Systematic Review from various arcticles, climate change significantly affects Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever patterns in the Southeast Asia. Climatic factors such as temperature, rainfall, humidity, and extreme climate phenomena like El Niño and La Niña have been shown to accelerate the life cycle of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, increase the virus transmission capacity, and expand the geographic distribution of dengue-endemic areas. Climate change, both seasonal and long-term, has the potential to exacerbate the burden of dengue fever in this region, particularly in tropical and subtropical areas that are vulnerable to climate impacts.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The tuberculosis (TB) detection methods used are the GeneXpert method and the Ziehl-Neelsen method. GeneXpert identifies the rpoB hotspot gene bacteria in Mycobacterium tuberculosis by analyzing deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), while the TB detection method with Ziehl-Neelsen staining is a microscopic examination used to detect acid-fast bacilli (AFB), namely Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. The purpose of this study was to determine the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value of the nucleic acid amplification test (GeneXpert) using sputum samples in patients with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis and compare it with microscopic examination (Ziehl-Neelsen staining) of Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB). The method used is simple random sampling which explains the comparison between the variables of the GeneXpert and Ziehl-Neelsen examination results in pulmonary tuberculosis patients using a cross-sectional approach, namely where data is obtained from the pulmonary TB population at Hospital X Yogyakarta from 2021-2024 according to the variables studied. Based on the TCM results which are greater than the BTA results, these results indicate a significant difference between the GeneXpert method and the Ziehl-Neelsen method in terms of examination results. The results obtained from the examination using the TCM/GeneXpert and Ziehl-Neelsen methods show a higher detection rate of GeneXpert than Ziehl-Neelsen in identifying TB cases.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a leading metabolic risk factor contributing to morbidity and mortality, particularly in Indonesia’s urban populations. This study examined the effect of lipid profile and blood glucose on hypertension incidence among non-communicable disease (NCD) clinic patients at Pasar Minggu District Health Center, South Jakarta. A cross-sectional design was applied, utilizing secondary data from electronic medical records (e-puskesmas) in 2023. The study involved 1,168 patients. Results showed that 88.7% had hypertension, with 65.3% exhibiting high LDL levels, while most had non-risk levels of total cholesterol (57%), HDL (52.7%), triglycerides (67.1%), creatinine (90.5%), and HbA1c (74.6%). Multivariate analysis revealed significant associations between total cholesterol (OR=0.619; 95% CI=0.393–0.974) and HbA1c (OR=0.180; 95% CI=0.128–0.252) with hypertension incidence, after controlling for LDL. Elevated total cholesterol and HbA1c were linked to a reduced hypertension risk in this population. The findings suggest that integrating lipid and glucose control into hypertension prevention strategies, alongside multisectoral collaboration, may enhance early detection and management of NCDs in primary care settings.

Abstract

The quality of healthcare services is a crucial factor in improving community well-being. The General Clinic of Bintaro Woman and Children Clinic Jagakarsa must ensure that its service quality meets national standards. To identify strategies for improving the quality of services at the clinic. This study employed a qualitative approach using observation and interviews with seven informants, consisting of three patients, two doctors, and two non-medical staff. Data were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman technique, which includes data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing.Compliance with hand hygiene before patient contact was generally good; however, there were instances of negligence after removing personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE use adhered to policy, but glove usage was inconsistent, particularly when handling pediatric patients. Patient identification was carried out through document verification, although reliance on verbal communication alone sometimes reduced accuracy. Patient satisfaction was generally positive regarding registration, procedures, and service specifications, but complaints were raised about long waiting times, high costs, and unfriendly receptionist service.Routine training, policy reinforcement, regular evaluation, and improvements in time efficiency and cost transparency are necessary to enhance service quality and patient satisfaction.

Abstract

The quality of life of breast cancer patients post-surgery is an important indicator in assessing the success of long-term management, particularly in Indonesia, which has a high prevalence of breast cancer. This systematic review aims to identify the determinant factors affecting the quality of life of post-surgery breast cancer patients in Indonesia. Literature searches were conducted through PubMed, Google Scholar, and grey literature databases using Boolean operator keywords. The search was conducted without publication year restrictions, but only articles up to July 2025 were included. Of the 1,258 articles identified, 8 studies met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed narratively. Articles were also critically assessed for quality using JBI based on their study design. All articles had an average quality of moderate-high in reporting their research. The findings of the studies indicate that the quality of life of post-surgery breast cancer patients is influenced by physical, psychological, social, and medical factors. Low physical activity, anxiety, depression, and poor body image can reduce the quality of life. Social support from family and community helps improve the patient's well-being. Additionally, breast reconstruction can enhance the quality of life, though not all patients choose to undergo this procedure. In conclusion, interventions that consider physical, psychological, social, and medical factors should be integrated into post-surgery breast cancer care in Indonesia to improve the patient's quality of life holistically.

Abstract

Feet edema in pregnant women is a danger sign for pregnant women that needs to be watched out for. Leg edema can be accompanied by complications during pregnancy. According to WHO, in 2020 75% of pregnant women in the world suffered from edema in the upper extremities which generally occurred in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Meanwhile, 80% of pregnant women in Indonesia experienced problems with edema in the legs. (Aulia, 2020) (Sari, 2023) This study aims to address the problem of leg edema in pregnant women in the third trimester and increase mothers' knowledge about danger signs of pregnant women, especially leg edema in the final trimester. The type of research conducted is descriptive research with a case study method. Data collection methods are observational and interviews. The results of continuous midwifery care provided to Mrs. S G2P10001, 31 years old, showed problems found in antenatal care in the third trimester of pregnancy, namely the mother experienced swelling in the legs for 2 days, normal blood pressure, and a negative urine protein test. The mother was given health education about danger signs of pregnancy in the third trimester, especially eclampsia which can be characterized by edema in the legs. The mother said she understood the midwife's explanation and would be more alert.
