Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose: This research aims to explore how financial management practices and accounting strategies implemented by Gayo Coffee MSMEs in Aceh, Indonesia, contribute to the sustainability of tourism-based local economies. Gayo Coffee, globally recognized for its distinctive flavor and organic cultivation methods, has become a central pillar in Aceh’s economic and tourism development. Research Methods: This study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach utilizing secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Bank Indonesia (BI), the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), and academic publications. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and triangulation to ensure validity and reliability. Results and Discussion: Findings reveal that most MSMEs practice traditional but adaptive financial management through manual bookkeeping and cooperative-based funding. However, digital transformation has improved financial transparency through QRIS and e-wallet use. Despite progress, accounting literacy and standardization remain limited. Implication: The study emphasizes the importance of enhancing financial education, digital literacy, and accounting standardization to strengthen the role of MSMEs in sustainable tourism development. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the housekeeping department in maintaining the image and guest satisfaction at Hotel Tunjungan Surabaya, East Java. Using the SERVQUAL theory (Valarie A et al., 1988), corporate image theory (Dowling, 2001), and customer satisfaction theory (Oliver et al., 1997), this research employs a qualitative approach with data collected through interviews with the housekeeping manager, staff, and several hotel guests. The results show that housekeeping services have a positive impact on shaping the hotel’s image and guest satisfaction, although several challenges remain, such as limited workforce and varying guest expectations regarding cleanliness standards. Fast, friendly, and consistent service reflects good work quality, with guest satisfaction indicated by positive perceptions of room cleanliness and comfort. This success demonstrates that housekeeping plays an essential role in strengthening the hotel’s image as a clean, comfortable, and professional place to stay, although further improvements are needed in staff training and interdepartmental coordination. The conclusion of this study is that housekeeping contributes significantly to building a positive hotel image and enhancing guest satisfaction through quality service that prioritizes customer needs. Therefore, it is recommended that Hotel Tunjungan management continue to improve the competence of housekeeping staff, strengthen work systems, and maintain consistent cleanliness standards to ensure the hotel’s positive image is sustained in the long term.

Abstract

This study explores the optimization of social engagement strategies through a community-based English education program Beraban English Club implemented by Nuanu Social Fund in Beraban Village, Tabanan, Bali. Utilizing a qualitative-descriptive research approach, data were collected through participatory observation, pre-test and final-test evaluation, in-depth interviews, and activity documentation involving 7 active youth participants from Karang Taruna GAPERA and key stakeholders from Nuanu Social Fund. Drawing on experiential learning theory (Kolb, 1984), the study examined how participatory and community-based learning approaches could enhance emotional involvement, peer collaboration, and contextual learning experiences. The results demonstrate that while social engagement levels remained moderate due to external factors related to local customs and responsibilities, the program achieved significant improvements in English proficiency (from 61% to 82%, representing a 34% increase) and strengthened community connections. The study identifies critical factors influencing engagement success, including participant recruitment methods, scheduling considerations relative to local cultural calendars, and the importance of personalized motivational strategies. These findings contribute to understanding how educational social events can effectively combine language skill development with sustainable community social impact. This research offers both theoretical implications for community learning models and practical recommendations for future initiatives by Nuanu Social Fund and similar social organizations seeking to enhance youth empowerment through culturally-sensitive, participatory education programs.

Abstract

This study examines the promotional strategies of Tongging Tourism Village through social media as an effort to support sustainable tourism development. This study uses a participatory action approach methodology by directly conducting field studies and comprehensively reviewing the promotional strategies of Tongging Tourism Village through social media in the context of sustainable tourism development to explore the marketing position and promotional practices implemented by village managers, particularly through Instagram and digital platforms. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The participatory action approach was chosen because it is able to produce a comprehensive understanding that can be directly seen and felt by the author about the objects, phenomena, and social contexts studied, where the authors describe their findings systematically through narrative presentations. The findings reveal that the promotional activities align with two main strategies in the Ansoff Matrix, namely market penetration through the reactivation of the @desawisatatongging Instagram account, consistent reels publication, and collaboration with local tourism managers and market development, realized through the creation of an integrated village website, English-subtitled content, and information boards equipped with QR codes. These strategies resulted in a significant increase in digital visibility, indicated by the rise in average reel views from 1,702 to 3,902, with one reel reaching 9,558 views. The integration of the Marketing Mix (4P) further strengthened promotional effectiveness by enhancing information accessibility, price transparency, and destination image. Overall, the study concludes that social media-based promotion effectively supports sustainable tourism by improving information digitization, empowering local stakeholders, and expanding market reach. Recommendations are provided for tourism managers, local governments, and future research to enhance digital marketing and long-term sustainable tourism development.

Abstract

This study examines how human resource (HR) competency and financial literacy function as foundational pillars in the success of Blimbingsari Tourism Village, a community-based Christian religious ecotourism destination in Bali. Existing research on community-based tourism (CBT) highlights the importance of local participation, governance, and social capital, yet limited attention has been given to how HR competency and financial literacy interact within religious tourism contexts. To address this gap, this study employs a qualitative case study approach, involving in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis with tourism managers, church representatives, financial administrators, and local community members. The findings reveal that HR competency in Blimbingsari is shaped not only by technical skills but also by Christian values, informal learning, and intergenerational mentorship, producing a distinctive competency model rooted in moral integrity, discipline, and service-oriented leadership. Financial literacy is similarly influenced by long-standing church traditions of transparency and stewardship, enabling community members to practice accountable budgeting, record-keeping, and financial reporting despite limited formal education. The integration of HR competency and financial literacy forms a mutually reinforcing system that strengthens community trust, improves tourism service quality, and supports sustainable destination development. However, several challenges persist, including youth migration, uneven digital literacy, fluctuating tourism revenue, and overlapping governance roles between church and village authorities. Overall, this study contributes to the literature on CBT by demonstrating that in religious ecotourism settings, managerial capability and financial competence are embedded within cultural and spiritual frameworks. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to strengthen community-based tourism governance through culturally grounded capacity-building initiatives.

Abstract

The increasingly competitive hospitality industry encourages each hotel to build strong differentiation, including through the formation of a brand image relevant to sustainable values. Greenotel Cilegon as a three-star hotel carries an environmentally friendly (go green) concept in the middle of the industrial area of Cilegon City, thus requiring an effective Public Relations communication strategy to strengthen this image. This study aims to analyze the Public Relations communication strategy in shaping the image of an environmentally friendly hotel at Greenotel Cilegon. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data was obtained through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation, then analyzed through the process of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Information Integration Theory is used as a foundation in understanding the process of forming public perception. The results show that Greenotel Cilegon's Public Relations communication strategy is carried out through consistent social media content management, publication of environmentally oriented activities, utilization of travel e-commerce platforms, and the creation of hotel space experiences that highlight sustainable values through recycled material designs. This strategy is proven to strengthen brand associations related to the uniqueness of the go green concept, natural aesthetic values, and commitment to the environment, thus supporting the formation of a positive image in the public mind. This study confirms that the success of an eco-friendly hotel image is determined by the consistency of communication messages and the alignment between symbolic communication and the real experiences received by visitors

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the extent of the readiness of Morotai Island's cultural tourism destinations, especially at the Museum Trikora and Army Dock Beach tourist attractions, in applying the principles of sustainable tourism. These two objects were chosen because the management and facilities at the location have not been optimally developed, despite having high historical value. Research Methods: This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, where data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Result and discussion: The findings show that both Museum Trikora and Army Dock Beach are not fully prepared to implement sustainable tourism principles. Museum Trikora has damaged facilities and restricted activities, while Army Dock Beach lacks official management and adequate facilities. Community involvement and coordination among agencies are limited. Implication: From the results of observations in the field and by approaching five main aspects, namely management, infrastructure and facilities, community involvement, environmental and cultural preservation, as well as promotion and accessibility, it was found that the level of understanding and involvement of the community and managers towards the principles of sustainable tourism is still relatively low. This research concludes that improving management, active community involvement, and strengthening supporting facilities are important steps to realize a more sustainable cultural tourism destination.

Abstract

Culinary tourism has become an increasingly important component of tourism development, particularly as a core tourism product that shapes tourists’ experiences and behavioral intentions in coastal destinations. In Indonesia, coastal culinary experiences based on seafood play a strategic role in shaping tourists’ perceptions and consumption patterns. This study focuses on culinary tourism and examines its influence on tourists’ visit intention at Kukup Beach, Gunungkidul Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative associative research design was employed using a survey method. Data were collected from 35 tourists through structured questionnaires measured on a five-point Likert scale. Descriptive statistical analysis, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression were applied to analyze the data. The results show a positive and statistically significant relationship between culinary tourism and tourists’ visit intention (r = 0.579; p < 0.05). Culinary tourism explains 33.56% of the variance in visit intention, indicating that food quality, variety, hygiene, service quality, and price fairness are important determinants of tourists’ intention to revisit and recommend the destination. This study contributes empirical evidence to culinary tourism research in coastal destinations and provides practical implications for destination managers in integrating local culinary products into sustainable tourism development strategies.
