Abstract

This study addresses the problem of declining internalization of Pancasila values among students, particularly in the context of character education. The objective is to explore how Scout extracurricular activities at SMP Terpadu Al-Farabi, Tanjung Anom, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, serve as a medium to strengthen these values. The research specifically aims to examine how the principles of Pancasila—belief in God, humanity, unity, democracy, and social justice—are applied through Scouting activities and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting their implementation. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The participants included the school principal, two Scout mentors, and ten eighth-grade students actively participating in the Scout program. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, involving data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that Scout extracurricular activities significantly shape student character by embedding Pancasila values into daily practice. These are evident in students' discipline, teamwork, leadership, patriotism, and responsibility. However, the implementation faces obstacles, including limited facilities and inconsistent mentoring. Despite these challenges, the study finds that scouting remains a highly effective platform for civic education when properly supported and aligned with character-building goals.

Abstract

Inclusive education in vocational schools faces significant challenges, particularly in how teachers manage learning for students with special needs. This study aims to explore and describe: (1) teachers' ability in planning learning for students with special needs, (2) the implementation of learning in inclusive classrooms, (3) assessment practices applied to students with special needs, and (4) the extent to which teachers can adapt learning materials and evaluations to meet diverse needs. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects included the school principal, guidance counsellors, homeroom teachers, students with special needs, and regular students. The findings reveal that while teachers show initiative and commitment to inclusive practices, they face major obstacles due to the lack of differentiated curricula, formal assessment tools, and specific training on handling students with special needs. Positive practices include regular parent-teacher communication, informal assessments, and peer-group integration strategies. However, systemic policies or institutional resources do not support these efforts. These findings indicate the urgent need for structured training programs, adaptive instructional materials, and policy-level support to optimise inclusive education practices in vocational schools.

Abstract

This study examines the local wisdom values embedded in the architecture of Malay stilt houses as a literacy medium for environmental education. Malay stilt houses reflect cultural identity and embody sustainability principles relevant to current environmental challenges. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, utilising in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The study was conducted in AUR Village, Medan Maimun District, Medan City, with informants of traditional leaders, local educators, and residents of stilt houses who directly know these structures' cultural and environmental significance. The findings indicate that Malay stilt houses promote values such as adaptation to natural conditions, energy efficiency, vegetation preservation, and environmentally friendly building materials. These houses hold strong potential as a medium for environmental literacy, as they integrate cultural heritage, ecological awareness, and sustainable living practices. By incorporating the study of Malay stilt houses into educational activities, the younger generation can develop a sense of pride in local culture and a deeper understanding of and responsibility for environmental conservation.

Abstract

This study was conducted to address the lack of creative thinking skills in writing fictional narrative texts among fourth-grade students at SDN Jurang Mangu Timur 03 in Banten, Indonesia. The issue was evident in their low performance across the indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. To overcome this challenge, the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model was implemented. The research adopted a Classroom Action Research design with three cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection phases. A total of 29 fourth-grade students participated in the study. The results showed a gradual and significant improvement in students’ creative thinking abilities: only 10% of students scored ≥70 in the pre-cycle, which increased to 45% in Cycle 1, 62% in Cycle 2, and 86% in Cycle 3. These findings indicate that the PjBL model effectively enhanced students' creative thinking skills throughout the intervention cycles.

Abstract

The proliferation of hoaxes among adolescents has emerged as a critical challenge in the digital era, driven by the high intensity of social media use and limited digital literacy skills. This study examines the effectiveness of group guidance using the ABCDE technique—derived from Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)—in reducing hoax-spreading behaviour among junior high school students. A pretest–posttest one-group design involved a purposive sample of eight eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Panyabungan. Data were collected using a validated hoax behaviour questionnaire and analysed through descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Pretest results showed that all participants were categorised as having “high” or “very high” hoax behaviour. After four structured group guidance sessions using the ABCDE model (Activating Event, Belief, Consequence, Disputation, Effect), all students showed a significant behavioural shift to the “low” category. Statistical results confirmed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = -2.527, p = 0.012). These findings indicate that the ABCDE technique effectively restructures students’ irrational beliefs and emotional responses, promoting critical thinking, responsible digital behaviour, and ethical media engagement. The study underscores the relevance of incorporating structured psychological interventions such as the ABCDE technique into school counselling programs to foster digital character and strengthen media literacy among adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services using the reframing technique in reducing toxic disinhibition behaviour among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Panyabungan. This behaviour involves aggressive and inappropriate expressions in digital interactions, often triggered by perceived anonymity and low social control. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. A total of six students (n=6) identified with toxic disinhibition behaviour participated in the intervention. Data were collected using a 30-item questionnaire, validated with a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability score of 0.734. The intervention consisted of two group guidance sessions, each lasting 40 minutes. The results showed a reduction in the average score from 99.67 to 84.33. The Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of 0.028 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference before and after the intervention. The results suggest that the reframing technique effectively helps students reflect on their thinking patterns and build better self-control in digital contexts. This study recommends incorporating reframing into school counselling as a strategic approach to address deviant behaviour in the digital age. The findings also support using cognitive behavioural strategies in adolescent counselling interventions.

Abstract

The issue of low social skills among junior high school students can hinder interpersonal relationships and collaboration during the learning process. This study examines the effectiveness of group guidance services that integrate cooperative game techniques in improving the social skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Galang. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design of the Pretest-Posttest Control Group type. The study population consisted of 101 students, with 16 students identified as having low social skills. The sample was divided into experimental and control groups, each comprising eight students selected through purposive sampling. The intervention was conducted over six sessions. The research instrument used was a social skills scale, and the data were analysed using the t-test with the assistance of SPSS version 27. The analysis results showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The t-values were 17.616 and 8.981, with a significance level of 0.000. These findings demonstrate that group guidance services based on cooperative games effectively enhance students' social skills. This result implies that such an approach can serve as an alternative strategy for school counselling services.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenge of fostering sustainable rural development and effective local governance in Cambodia by evaluating the applicability and impact of the Saemaul Undong (SMU) leadership model, originally developed in South Korea. Specifically, it investigates how the SMU model enhances community participation and leadership effectiveness within the dynamic contexts of decentralization reforms and post-conflict reconstruction in rural Cambodia. A mixed-methods research design was employed. Data collection involved a combination of qualitative approaches (interviews, focus groups) and quantitative methods (structured questionnaires, statistical analysis) across 12 strategically selected SMU pilot villages in Kampong Speu, Tboung Khmum, and Takeo provinces, in addition to insights from the Cambodia-Korea Rural Development Center (CKRDC). Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS, incorporating descriptive statistics, regression modeling, and path analysis. Findings reveal significant positive outcomes, with a high commitment to SMU activities reflected by 98.9% of respondents expressing continued involvement. Statistical analysis demonstrates strong positive and statistically significant correlations between SMU training and key development indicators: women’s leadership (r = .896), community participation (r = .862), and income generation (r = .799). SMU principal training emerged as the most influential factor, followed by practical application and knowledge acquisition, in driving these improvements. The study highlights the model’s capacity to reinforce local governance and decentralization efforts by developing capable and participatory leadership at the community level.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of teacher professionalism and discipline on teacher performance at Rawas Ulu Muratara Vocational School. The core problem addressed is the variation in teacher effectiveness, which may be rooted in varying levels of professional competence and disciplinary behavior among educators. The objective of the research is to determine how significantly these two factors contribute to improving overall teacher performance and to identify the extent of their individual and combined effects. The study employed a quantitative research method grounded in a positivist paradigm, utilizing statistical analysis to examine data collected from a representative sample of teachers at the school. Instruments such as structured questionnaires were used to gather numerical data on teacher professionalism, discipline, and performance indicators. The collected data were analyzed using multiple regression techniques to measure the degree of influence each independent variable had on teacher performance. The results revealed that teacher professionalism has a dominant and significant effect, contributing 63.9% to teacher performance. Teacher discipline also significantly influences performance, with a contribution of 26.8%. When analyzed together, both professionalism and discipline account for 77.369% of the variation in teacher performance, indicating a strong combined effect. These findings highlight the urgent need for professional development and stricter enforcement of discipline policies to enhance educational outcomes. The study offers valuable insights for school leaders, policymakers, and education stakeholders seeking to implement effective strategies for improving teacher quality and overall institutional performance.

Abstract

This study explores the Edet Mungerje tradition, a customary wedding ceremony practiced by the Gayo ethnic community in Southeast Aceh Regency, to document its procedures and uncover the embedded values of local wisdom. Despite the rapid influence of modernization and technological advancement, this tradition remains a meaningful and practiced cultural heritage among the Gayo people. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five bridal couples and two traditional leaders. The findings reveal that while several procedural aspects of the ceremony have been simplified or adjusted to fit contemporary lifestyles, the core stages—munginte (marriage proposal), betelah (negotiation of dowry and terms), mujule mas (advice and acceptance), berguru (marital guidance), and mah kero opat ingi (post-wedding family visit)—are still preserved. These stages fulfill ceremonial purposes and transmit local values such as cooperation, deliberation, respect, moral education, and social responsibility. The novelty of this research lies in its contribution to preserving the cultural identity of an ethnic tradition that is at risk of being forgotten. This study offers a framework for cultural preservation amidst globalization. However, the study’s scope is limited to one district and may not fully reflect variations in other Gayo regions. Future comparative studies are recommended to explore inter-ethnic and inter-regional differences in wedding traditions across Aceh. Ultimately, Edet Mungerje serves as a cultural ritual and a vehicle for the intergenerational transmission of noble values.
