Abstract

Extremism is a common problem requiring resolution by various parties. One of the causes of extremism is the paradigm of primordialism and ethnocentrism, which asserts the superiority of individuals or groups and tends to demean others. In addition, socio-religious changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic also have intensified the situation of a pluralistic Indonesian society and have even permeated through cyberspace. Therefore, this study aimed to reflect on the interpretation of the verses calling for a response to the post-Covid-19 condition of Muslim urban communities. This study also aimed at maintaining the harmony of Indonesian society, specifically urban Muslims, while reinforcing a moderate attitude after the outbreak. A qualitative method was adopted using content analysis. The result showed that the reflection of these da'wah verses led to the importance of digital da'wah as a means of building (post-pandemic) moderate urban Muslim communities by upholding the goals of Islam, namely rahmatan li al-‘alamin, and collective benefit. Six ways were identified in building a moderate, digital-based Muslim urban community. First, through media literacy and digital literacy, second, a preacher must have the courage to expose potential, third, grounding the content of moderation on social media, and fourth, forming a group of moderate-minded digital media account managers. The fifth is strengthening collaboration with influencers (people who are influential in social media) and the sixth is courteous communication.

Abstract

This research aimed to explain the local wisdom of Medan urban communities in the distribution of inheritance. In urban communities, when inheritance is divided, it sometimes creates hostility between families due to inheritance issues between the father's brothers when dealing with daughters, which often results in differences in the amount of inheritance obtained. This study was field research, while the approach used is sociology and legal anthropology. Data collection techniques used in this study were interviews and documentation. An important finding in this research is that the urban Muslim community in Medan City has its own concept, local wisdom, in solving the division of inheritance between daughters when dealing with their father’s brothers. The local wisdom of urban Muslims in the city of Medan shows that there is a special legal formula as a third way of resolving problems, which is not only considered to have met the values of justice but also following the values of the common good, namely by continuing to give a share of the dead inheritance to the father’s brother by dead daughters through the path of sadaqah (which in this case researchers call it "sadaqah wajibah") because if it is not given it will result in disharmonious familial relations between the dead family and their siblings, and of course, as with shadaqah in general, the gift of inheritance from dead to his brothers based on the values of propriety and sincerity.

Islamic boarding schools are educational institutions developed to prevent radicalism through peaceful, open, and moderate education patterns. This could be seen from the students' profile graduates as agents of peace among religious communities with the capacity of faith stability, intellectual and reasoning abilities, da’wah (proselytizing) ability, and proficiency in foreign languages. In the UII Islamic Boarding School, the curriculum material's contents were dominated by a model based on religious moderation seen in the syllabus or subject. Abstract

This study comprehensively described the customary phenomenon of Sumbangsih on Musirawas urban Muslims. It has become a custom in Musirawas if a wedding party has to be held with great fanfare and hires a single organist. The Musirawas community does not need to bother with the cost of the party because the surrounding community is assisted through the Sumbangsih custom, but this custom has several negative impacts, so further studies are still needed. The customary phenomenon of Sumbangsih will be analyzed using ushuliyah studies using ‘urf theory. This field research uses interview data collection techniques, observation, and documentation. The approach used in this study is sociological normative. While the data analysis technique was carried out in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. An important finding in this study is that custom Sumbangsih are assistance or support in the form of money given when someone is having a wedding. The system for carrying out this donation event is based on a nominal level starting from the largest to the smallest. People who donate will go up on stage when there is a direction from the presenter and will line up from those who donate the most to the smallest the donation will be recorded, and the nominal will be stated. The second finding, the Sumbangsih (donation) custom belongs to al-'urf al-fasidah because if this Sumbangsih is carried out, it causes a lot of harm or immorality, such as the many illegal singers dressed in sexy clothes looking for saweran (giving money), gambling, drunkenness, and fights. So, it is necessary to harmonize Islamic teachings in this custom Sumbangsih by removing the mudhorat or immorality that appears in this custom.

Advancements in information technology are profoundly impacting various aspects of human life, particularly within urban Muslim communities. Two main aspects were also addressed, namely the methodology and the characteristics of digital interpretation by Muhammadiyah as presented in Tarjih YouTube Channel. A descriptive analytical Qualitative approach was adopted, and the collected data were then analyzed through data condensation, reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results showed (1) the emergence of a new form of interaction with the Qur’an in the digital era, (2) the utilization of tahlily and maudhu’i methods in presenting Tafsir at-Tanwir, and (3) the active role of Tafsir at-Tanwir in shaping contemporary interpretations, specifically in the dissemination of interpretations digitally. In addition, the results showed that Muslims now have greater proximity and accessibility to Qur’anic interpretation compared to previous eras. This indicated that urban Muslims, specifically Muhammadiyah, contributed significantly to da'wah through digital media interpretation of Qur'anic verses on the Tarjih Channel.

Abstract

The urge of the Bugis community to carry out the Hajj pilgrimage is increasing, particularly in the cities of Makassar and Manado. This is because in urban areas the Hajj pilgrimage is a cultural priority for the community. The ability to carry out the Hajj pilgrimage is measured by financial determinants including asset value, savings investment, income level, and religious understanding. This research is intended to analyze the influence of asset value, savings investment, and income level on interest in Hajj by involving religiosity as a mediating variable in the Bugis community in the cities of Makassar and Manado. This research followed a quantitative approach by collecting data through questionnaires. The population in this study was the entire Bugis community who are living in Makassar and Manado, while the sample was taken according to the sample selection criteria of 607 respondents. The data analysis technique used is path analysis with the help of AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structure) software. The results of this research show that the value of assets does not have an influence on the interest in Hajj of the Bugis community in Makassar and Manado, however, the value of assets and investment savings has an influence on the interest in Hajj of the Bugis community if the religiosity variable is involved as a mediating variable, while the level of income has no influence on interest in Hajj by the Bugis community in Makassar and Manado. The novelty of this research is connecting multiple variables with the Hajj interest variable using the religiosity variable as a moderating variable by creating a new pattern by testing competitive theory. The implication of this research is the increase in the number of registrants or Hajj portion numbers because it is supported by investment savings available from banking products.
