Abstract

Early childhood education (PAUD) as the basis for children's higher education and preparing a generation of learners who have a healthy competitive spirit is very important. This can be done through science learning. This research analyzes the difficulties of PAUD teachers in teaching science to early childhood. The method used was qualitative descriptive with a sample of 20 PAUD teachers in Mangga Village, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City. The data obtained was analyzed using the informant review technique or feedback from informants by Milles and Hubberman. To ensure the validity of the data collected, triangulation techniques were also used. The results of the research show that PAUD teachers have difficulties in teaching science, understanding science concepts which are still rigid by following reference books, limited tools, materials and time, as well as applying science concepts which do not yet refer to the early childhood environment. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the competence of PAUD teachers must be improved in accordance with the aim of teaching science to early childhood.

This research aims to identify and develop effective strategies in improving musical instrument learning for young children in PAUD. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach using observation, interview and documentation study techniques. The research subjects were teachers and students in several PAUDs in certain areas. The research results show that effective strategies involve increasing teacher competence through intensive training, providing varied and interesting musical instruments, as well as interactive and fun learning approaches. The discussion underscored the importance of collaboration between teachers, parents and the school in creating a conducive learning environment for children. The conclusion of this research is that implementing a comprehensive and sustainable strategy can significantly improve the quality of musical instrument learning in early childhood at PAUD, which in turn can support children's holistic cognitive, motoric and emotional development.

Abstract

Education is a bridge to educate the generation or the nation's children. The world of education has a very important role in the progress of this country. Through this world of education, the young generation or the nation's children are able to master knowledge from several domains, namely the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains which contain moral education. However, the development of moral education for the current generation of the nation in the era of globalization is quite concerning, such as the act of cheating carried out by elementary school students today. Cheating is one of the dishonest behaviors that often occurs in the school environment, especially at the Elementary School (SD) level. This behavior not only disrupts the learning process, but also has the potential to damage the moral integrity of students from an early age. Therefore, teachers have an important role in overcoming and preventing cheating behavior among students. The problem of cheating is a serious problem because it will continue to be carried over into the world of work so that Self-Efficacy is needed, namely self-confidence in the learning process in the classroom.

Abstract

This is study aims to identify the influence of emotional intelligence on the development of soft skills in generation Z students. The study was conducted with quantitative approach use a correlational survey method, involving 30 students of the Faculty of Economics, State University of Medan as respondents. Data were collected through a Likert-based questionnaire that measures emotional intelligence based on five main dimensions (self-awareness, self-control, motivation, empathy, and social skills) and soft skills (communication, cooperation, leadership, and problem solving). Data analysis was carried out using simple regression tests, ANOVA, and coefficient of determination. The results showed that emotional intelligence did not have a significant effect on improving soft skills, indicated by the F-count (0.000), R-square (0.000), and T-count (0.007) values which were smaller than the T-table. These findings indicate that the development of students' soft skills requires a multidimensional approach that does not only rely on emotional intelligence. This study provides new insights for educational institutions in designing programs to develop skills for generation Z students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of learning styles on the learning outcomes of students of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics, State University of Medan. The study used a quantitative method with a causal associative approach. The sample of the study was 30 students selected purposively. Data were obtained through a questionnaire to measure learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) and documentation of the Cumulative Achievement Index (IPK) as a learning outcome. Simple linear regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between variables. The results showed that learning styles did not have a significant effect on student learning outcomes. The F test produced F count 0.390 < F table 3.93 with a significance of 0.538 > ( 0.05), and the coefficient of determination (R-square) value of 0.014 indicated that learning styles only explained 1.4% of learning outcomes, while 98.6% was influenced by other factors. This study confirms that although learning styles are important, learning outcomes are more determined by other factors that need to be explored further.

Abstract

The problem that occurs in this study is that children often spell when reading a word or text. This of course will take a long time to read and become a habit when they enter further education. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of learning to read without spelling in early childhood. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research that is describing something that happens through the observations that have been made. The subjects in this study were early childhood, parents and tutors at Rumah Pintar Alamanda. The data collection technique used was observation of children and interviews with parents and tutors as well as documentation. Based on the results of the research and analysis that has been carried out, it appears that children are better at recognizing letters, vocabulary and connecting words at the beginning of reading by using the learning method to read without spelling. This is proven when the child is able to name the letters intended by the teacher. So that the use of the method of learning to read without spelling can help children in beginning reading in early childhood. Several things were done in this study, namely: (1) Introducing letters in a different way; (2) Introducing syllables; (3) Reading various syllables; (4) Read together. All of these activities are carried out under the direction and guidance of the tutor so that children can be even better at beginning

Abstract

This study is a research work in the field of consecutive community interpreting, focusing on the knowledge mastery and competence of interpreters who provide services in religious contexts. The objective of the research is to analyze and discover the extent to which two interpreters, each participating in different religious activities, demonstrate knowledge mastery and how this aspect influences their interpreting competence. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, supported by the theory of interpreting competence as the main analytical framework. Data were obtained through questionnaires and in-depth interviews conducted with both interpreters, aiming to capture their personal experiences, preparation strategies, and problem-solving approaches during interpreting tasks. The questionnaires were processed using a Likert scale to provide measurable indicators of knowledge mastery, while the interviews offered deeper insights into the interpreters’ practical challenges and decision-making processes. The findings reveal that knowledge mastery plays a crucial role in shaping interpreting competence, particularly in specialized settings such as religious activities where cultural and contextual sensitivity is essential. The study contributes to the understanding of community interpreting by emphasizing the integration of theoretical knowledge, linguistic skills, and contextual awareness. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of interpreter training programs that incorporate not only language proficiency but also domain-specific knowledge to ensure high-quality interpreting services.

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of standard and non-standard language in culinary content on YouTube, focusing on their roles and functions in digital communication. The rapid development of digital technology has transformed communication patterns, with platforms like YouTube becoming primary spaces for interaction, especially in popular genres such as culinary content where creators often blend language styles. The hypothesis suggests that non-standard language is more dominant as it effectively builds audience engagement, while standard language ensures clarity and professionalism. A descriptive qualitative method with observation and note-taking was applied by analyzing a culinary video from Ria SW’s channel, specifically the episode titled “Medan Food Diaries: My Top 6 Picks”. Data was collected through meticulous transcription and analyzed using content analysis to classify language variations and their pragmatic functions. The findings reveal that non-standard language predominates in creating a casual and persuasive atmosphere, while standard language serves to deliver clear information. Standard language is strategically employed to convey factual details about food, such as ingredients or objective taste descriptions, to maintain credibility. In contrast, non-standard forms, including popular slang like “mantul” and other expressive phrases, are instrumental in fostering closeness and authenticity, making the content more relatable. The study concludes that both language varieties complement each other; standard language maintains the informative quality, while non-standard language enhances the entertainment value and viewer connection. These findings provide valuable implications for sociolinguistic studies and Indonesian language learning through digital media, demonstrating how language flexibly adapts to modern communication needs.
