Islam Realitas: Journal of Islamic and Social Studies is an international journal published by the State Islamic Institute of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Abstract

Digital transformation has shaped Gen Z's behavior in accessing information. Behind this pattern, they face serious challenges, including the rise of disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation, as well as the degradation of values due to harmful digital culture. This article aims to propose a paradigm of digital literacy based on moderate Islam for Generation Z, integrating critical awareness of information, digital ethics grounded in spiritual values, and the use of technology as a means of religious and character transformation in the digital age. This study employed a qualitative approach, incorporating literature review and analysis of digital literacy survey data. The findings reveal that Gen Z remains vulnerable to being trapped in echo chambers and filter bubbles due to low awareness of verification, confirmation, and comparison of information. Gen Z increasingly relies on social media as their primary source of academic information without adequate filtering mechanisms. This poses a risk to their well-being, necessitating strategies to strengthen digital literacy character as a defense against the negative impacts of digital transformation. This research proposes moderate Islam-based digital literacy as a new paradigm for Gen Z’s digital literacy, which includes Islamic Epistemic Vigilance, Critical awareness in filtering information to counter hoaxes, fake news, and hate speech. Islamic Ethical Digital, the internalization of internet ethics aligned with spiritual values that foster civilized digital behavior. Spiritual-Tech Integration, the use of digital technology as a means of spiritual transformation that is adaptive to the times. These findings emphasize that moderate Islam-based digital literacy strategy to empower Gen Z as agents of change

Abstract

This article aimed to describe Said Agil Siradj's communication strategy at the anniversary of Fatayat NU in 2019. Radicalism and terrorism have become a real threat to world peace and human values. In Indonesia, it has been categorised as an extraordinary crime, particularly since the Bali bombings in 2002. The act of anticipation has been issued by forming anti-terrorism regulation to prevent and crackdown of its action. Nevertheless, this effort is not sufficient to eradicate terrorism action. Collaboration with religious institutions is needed to deal with the questions of the religious doctrines. Therefore, the participation of religious leaders from the Islamic organisations such as Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) is essential.. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach of critical discourse analysis, focusing on the illocutionary acts of speech acts theory. The data of the research was transcribed from the video of SAS’s speech on YouTube channel. The result shows that the speaker used types of illocutionary acts; representatives, directives, commisives, expressives, and declarations. These expressions are used to command, persuade, and warn the listeners. Meanwhile, the Islamic terms were used as a discursive practice to maintain a good relationship between a leader and the followers. Tulisan ini menjelaskan tentang bagaiamana Said Agil Siradj (SAS) mempengaruhi pendengarnya pada acara ulang tahun Fatayat NU ke-73 tahun 2019. Radikalisme dan terorisme telah menjadi ancaman bagi perdamaian dan nilai-nilai kemanusian. Di Indonesia, tindak terorisme telah menjadi bentuk kejahatan yang luar biasa sejak kejadian bom Bali 2002. Bentuk antisipasi telah dilakukan yakni dengan menerbitkan undang-undang anti-terorisme untuk menangkal dan mengatasi aksi terorisme. Penegakan hukum dan kebijakan regulasi telah dikeluarkan dalam rangka menangkalnya. Namun demikian, tindakan ini belum cukup memadai dalam pemberantasan terorisme. Kolaborasi dengan Lembaga-lembaga keagamaan diperlukan guna menjawab terkait doktrin-doktirn keagamaan. Oleh karena itu partisipasi para pemimpin agama dan organisasi keislaman seperti NU adalah penting. Namun demikian pelibatan organisasi keagamaan dalam kontek ini telah memicu munculnya perdebatan terutama Ketika organisasi tersebut mendominasi peran dalam ranah public.  Studi ini didesain berdasarkan deskripsi kualitatif pada pendekatan analisis wacana kritis yang berfokus pada tindak illokusi berdasarkan teori tindak tutur. Data penelitian ini diambil dari transkripsi Video SAS yang diambil dari YouTube. Selanjutnya data dianalisis menggunakan teori tindal ilokusi dan analsis wacana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembicara menggunakan tipe-tipe tindak tutur pada bentuk representasi, direktif, komisif, ekspresi dan deklarasi. Ekpresi-ekpresi tersebut digunakan untuk memerintah, membujuk dan melarang para pendengarnya.Adapun istilah-istilah keislaman digunakan sebagai praktik diskursif guna membangun hubungan social antara pemimpin dan pengikutnya.

Abstract

Zakat has the excellent potential to overcome social welfare problems. Baitul Mal Aceh (BMA) is a body that can maximize the benefits of zakat funds for the welfare of the poor in Aceh province; therefore, it is necessary to strive for better management of zakat to obtain better results. This study aims to determine the management of zakat in BMA in terms of a good governance approach. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with data obtained through interviews, observation, and document study. The research results show that the zakat management in Aceh is quite good. Management should be based on the principles of good governance, such as openness and transparency; societal participation; accountability; and effectiveness and efficiency. Hopefully, BMA can continue to maintain and even improve its performance in managing zakat, so that it can improve the welfare of zakat recipients in Aceh.

Abstract

This article examines the criticism of the political model of humanity, namely a critique of the political activities carried out by Twitter NU Garis Lucu against intolerant groups and the government that ignores human values. This twitter displays a style of criticizing and introducing new models of political values on social media, namely through witty sentences and humor across religions, ethnicities, and cultures. This model of politics becomes very important at a time when social sedia is filled with negative and provocative comments and narratives that endanger human values. As a result of this narrative, people are trapped in a rigid understanding, cannot accept differences, and easily judge other Muslims to be wrong when the latters opinions do not align with ones own. This attitude in turn leads to an understanding of identity politics based on religion, one that rejects the teaching and symbols of the state, which are in turn considered contrary to the teachings of the sharia. This research is a descriptive and a qualitative analysis of the many reactions against the NU Garis Lucu twitter handle. The first part relates to the Twitter critique of NU Garis Lucu towards intolerant groups[NP1] . The second relates to the critique that the NU Garis Lucu received with regards to its stance against government and politicians. The results of the study show that the humanitarian politics developed by Twitter NU Garis Lucu by criticizing textual Islamic groups that have the potential to divide the harmony of Islamic society and the birth path of radicalism groups that aspire to uphold Islamic law kaffah. His criticism are manifested in dialogical, witty sentences, with an approach to Islamic teachings that are friendly, tolerant, and accept diversity in religious understanding. He also criticized government policies that were detrimental to the community and politicians who often raised identity politics and ignored its substance in fighting for the interests of the community. Artikel ini mengkaji kritik model politik kemanusiaan yaitu suatu kritik terhadap kegiatan politik yang dilakukan oleh Twitter NU Garis Lucu terhadap kelompok-kelompok anti-toleransi dan pemerintah yang mengabaikan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan. Twitter ini menampilkan gaya cara mengkritik dan memperkenalkan nilai-nilai politik model baru di Media Sosial, yaitu melalui kalimat-kalimat jenaka dan humor lintas agama, suku, etnis dan budaya. Politik model seperti ini menjadi sangat penting pada saat media sosial dipenuhi komentar dan narasi-narasi negatif dan provokatif yang membahayakan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan. Akibat dari narasi tersebut, masyarakat terjebak pada pemahaman yang kaku, tidak bisa menerima perbedaan, dan mudah memvonis orang Islam lain salah ketika tidak sesuai dengan pemahamanya, yang merembet pada pemahaman politik identitas yang berdasarkan agama yaitu suatu paham yang menolak ajaran dan simbol-simbol negara yang dianggap bertentangan dengan ajaran syariat. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif untuk untuk mengungkapkan hasil temuan. Pertama berkaitan dengan kritik twitter nu garis lucu kepada kaum intoleran. Kedua berkaitan dengan kritik Twitter NU Garis Lucu terhadap pemerintahan dan politisi. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa politik kemanusiaan yang dikembangkan oleh Twitter NU Garis Lucu dengan melakukan kritikan atas kelompok Islam tekstual yang mempunyai potensi memecah belah kerukunan masyarakat Islam dan jalan lahirnya kelompok radikalisme yang bercita-cita menegakan syariat Islam secara kaffah. Kritikan-kritikanya diwujudkan dengan kalimat bersifat dialogis, jenaka, dengan pendekatan ajaran Islam yang ramah, toleran, dan menerima keberagaman dalam pemahaman agama. Ia juga mengkritik terhadap kebijakan pemerintah yang merugikan masyarakat dan para politikus yang sering mengangkat politik identitas dan mengabaikan subtansinya dalam memperjuangkan kepentingan masyarakat.

Abstract

This study aims at identifying the radicalism potential in senior high school students or equivalent levels including secondary schools and vocational schools in Riau Province. This study uses a survey design involving 230 students selected through random sampling consisting of 65 senior high school students, 100 vocational high school students, and 65 Islamic senior high school students. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings showed the radicalism potential of 20% in secondary school students, of 30.5% in vocational school students, and of 19.8% in Islamic secondary school students. Around 23.4% of the students were identified to have radicalism potential such as having fundamentalist behavior. The percentage obtained in this study is hoped to encourage the teaching of religious tolerance, universal morality, and formal education. Another implication for the people who are related to the education of youth is that they should pay more attention more to difficult social issues, especially those that are relevant to the use of social media.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi potensi radikalisme pada siswa SMA/MA di Provinsi Riau. Designm penelitian ini menggunakan survey melibatkan 230 siswa yang diambil secara random sampling yang terdiri dari 65 siswa SMA, 100 siswa SMK, dan 65 SMA Islam. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan potensi radikalisme pada siswa SMA 20%, siswa SMK 30,5%, dan siswa MAN Islam 19,8%. Sekitar 23,4% siswa diidentifikasi memiliki potensi radikalisme seperti berperilaku fundamentalis. Persentase yang didapat dalam penelitian ini kurang sehingga diharapkan dapat dilaksanakan pengajaran tentang pentingnya toleransi beragama, akhlak, dan pendidikan formal. Implikasi lain bagi masyarakat yang terkait denganperan pemuda harus lebih memperhatikan kisruh yang ada, terutama yang relevan dengan penggunaan media sosial di era milenial ini

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether or not revivalism ideology exists among academics in Islamic higher education institutes in the province of Southeast Sulawesi. It is accomplished through the use of an exegetical reception approach of their understanding of the Āyāt at-Taḥkīm (Quran chapter al-Midah [5]:44-47). Data was gathered by combining survey technique development with in-depth interviews. The collected data was analyzed using a philosophical and phenomenological hermeneutic approach to assess the academic communitys understanding of Āyāt at-Taḥkīm. According to the survey results, Āyāt at-Taḥkīm is very popular among academics higher education institutes in Southeast Sulawesi. Most of the academic community’s information comes from religious studies on social media. They acknowledge and accept these verses as the foundation for the legitimacy of kaffah enforcement of Islamic law as the foundation for Indonesia’s political system. Meanwhile, the interviews show that most informants label those who disagree with the discourse with theological labels (kāfir and thāgūt). As a result, even though these characteristics have not reached an extreme level, their comprehension is included in the revivalism ideologys characteristics. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menakar eksistensi karakteristik ideologi revivalisme di kalangan sivitas akademika, khususnya di perguruan tinggi yang berada di wilayah provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara, Indonesia. Ini dilakukan dengan menerapkan pendekatan resepsi eksegesis atas pemahaman mereka terhadap Āyāt at-Taḥkīm (Q. al-Midah [5]:44-47). Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui elaborasi antara teknik survey dan wawancara mendalam secara bersamaan. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis mengggunakan pendekatan hermeneutika filosofis dan fenomenologis guna menakar pemahaman sivitas akademika terhadap Āyāt at-Taḥkīm. Hasil survey membuktikan bahwa Āyāt at-Taḥkīm cukup populer bagi kalangan sivitas akademika di Sulawesi Tenggara. Informasi tentangnya mayoritas diakses oleh sivitas akademika dari kajian-kajian keagamaan di media sosial. Mereka mengenal dan memahami ayat-ayat itu sebagai basis legitimasi wajibnya penegakan syariat Islam secara kaffah sebagai basis sistem politik pemerintahan di Indonesia. Sedangkan hasil wawancara membuktikan bahwa mayoritas informan menggunakan label-label teologis (kafir dan thagt) terhadap orang-orang yang menolak wacana tersebut. Meskipun pemahaman mereka dapat dikategorikan mengandung karakteristik ideologi revivalisme, tetapi belum termasuk level yang ekstrem, sehingga masih berpeluang bagi mereka untuk mendapatkan pembinaan.

Abstract

This research is designed to demonstrate (1) how the Indian media attempts to construct the Islamophobia issue during the Covid-19 pandemic (particularly in the earlier March-April, 2020) and (2) how the Indian news media use social media, such as Instagram and Twitter, to claim that Muslims were the disseminators of the virus to the majority of Indian population. In collecting and analyzing data, the researchers use the descriptive qualitative methodology as the scientific research procedure. There are three collected data classified in this research i.e., the primary data, the secondary data, and the supporting data. Furthermore, in analyzing the data, the researchers appled the critical discourse analysis (CDA) as the linguistics theory to study the Islamophobia discourse on the news media. Finally, the research result shows that (1) most of the Indian mainstream media not only spread Islamophobia but also justify and hegemonize Muslims as Corona virus disseminators , and (2) these news media eventually influenced hate speech memes and racial statements posted by Indian netizens/Buzzers on social media that accuse Muslim minority as the disseminator of the Corona virus. Penelitian ini dirancang untuk menunjukkan (1) bagaimana upaya media India dalam mengkonstruksi wacana Islamofobia kepada warga sipil selama pandemi Covid 19 (khususnya pada awal Maret-April 2020) dan (2) bagaimana berita media India memiliki berimplikasi pada penggunaan media sosial seperti Instagram dan Twitter, yang mengklaim minoritas Muslim sebagai penyebar virus Corona terhadap mayoritas penduduk India. Untuk mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data penelitian, peneliti menggunakan metodologi deskriptif kualitatif sebagai prosedur penelitian ilmiah. Data yang terkumpul diklasifikasikan menjadi tiga data yaitu data primer, data sekunder, dan data pendukung. Selanjutnya, dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menerapkan analisis wacana kritis (CDA) sebagai teori linguistik untuk memahami dan mempelajari wacana Islamofobia berdasarkan berita media. Akhirnya, hasil penelitian menunjukkan fakta yang sebenarnya bahwa (1) sebagian besar media utama India tidak hanya mengkonstruksi wacana Islamofobia namun juga membenarkan dan menghegemoni bahwa masyarakat muslim merupakan penyebar virus Corona (2) berita media ini pada akhirnya berimplikasi pada meme ujaran kebencian dan pernyataan rasial yang diposting oleh netizen/Buzzers India di media sosial yang menuduh minoritas Muslim sebagai penyebar virus Corona.

Abstract

This study describes the social movement of the West Sumatra Islamic Shari'a Enforcement Committee (KPSI) in the strengthening of Islamic values in West Sumatra for the 2014-2019. This period follow after the activities carried out by the West Sumatra KPSI after the rejection of the Lippo Superblock construction in 2013. This uses qualitative research with descriptive analysis with interview and documentation data collection methods. This research uses Islamic social movement theory and arrived at some important findings from this research. First, the mobilization of KPSI in strengthening Islamic values is not based on feelings of disappointment or dissatisfaction but as a form of concern towards the decadence of society. Second, political opportunities led KPSI West Sumatra to conduct da'wah (Islamic propogation). Third, the framing in which KPSI West Sumatra enganged in discourse became the target of mobilization in social movements based on the Qur'an and Sunnah. Fourth, the West Sumatran KPSI alliance or network has many alliances or networks to strengthen its movement.Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan gerakan sosial Komite Penegakan Syari'at Islam (KPSI) Sumbar dalam penguatan nilai-nilai Islam di Sumbar Tahun 2014-2019. Periode ini mengikuti kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh KPSI Sumbar pasca penolakan pembangunan Superblok Lippo pada tahun 2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan analisis deskriptif dengan metode pengumpulan data wawancara dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori gerakan sosial Islam dan sampai pada beberapa temuan penting dari penelitian ini. Pertama, mobilisasi KPSI dalam penguatan nilai-nilai Islam tidak didasarkan pada perasaan kecewa atau tidak puas tetapi sebagai bentuk kepedulian terhadap dekadensi masyarakat. Kedua, peluang politik mengantarkan KPSI Sumbar melakukan dakwah. Ketiga, framing di mana KPSI Sumbar berwacana menjadi sasaran mobilisasi dalam gerakan-gerakan sosial yang berbasis Al-Qur'an dan As-Sunnah. Keempat, aliansi atau jaringan KPSI Sumbar memiliki banyak aliansi atau jaringan untuk memperkuat gerakannya.

Abstract

The Middle East is an area that has many geopolitical interests, which has resulted in the emergence of political instability in the region. This has affected the security conditions and the world's political economy. Female peacekeepers are sent by intergovernmental organizations, such as the United Nations (UN), to carry out political stabilization programs in the Middle East.  Significant effort has been made by the United Nations to carry out female soldiers’ operations as peacekeepers. This study focuses on the role of female UN soldiers in the geopolitical stabilization efforts in the Middle East. This study uses the concept of the role of inter-governmental organizations (IGO), female military, and geopolitical interests. This research  uses a qualitative-explanatory analysis that study the crucial role of female soldiers in IGO's efforts for geopolitical stabilization in the region.  This study reveals that female soldiers sent by the UN have a positive contribution to the keeping of peace in the Middle East region.

Abstract

This study offers insights into the transformation of social media platforms as an alternative to the digital public sphere for Muslim society in Aceh. The communicative action theory by Habermas is used as approach to respond to this challenge. Descriptive quantitative analyses were used to expose religious discourse about Islam amongst young Muslims in Aceh. The results show that WhatsApp has proven to be the most popular among social media platforms. WhatsApp has functioned as a new public sphere for Muslim society in Aceh and has evolved into an essential part of mediated Islamic discourse in the digital era. In this regard, WhatsApp has created a universal public sphere, available to Muslim society as dialogic communication in Aceh. This research concludes that the Muslims in Aceh are not merely users of WhatsApp. They can also be digital preachers who can build individual narratives as a part of the religious struggle to increase their piety.Kajian ini dilakukan untuk memberikan pemahaman mendalam tentang bagaimana transformasi platform media sosial sebagai alternatif ruang publik digital pada masyarakat Muslim di Aceh. Teori tindakan komunikatif Habermas digunakan sebagai pendekatan untuk menjawab tantangan ini. Analisis deskriptif kuantitatif digunakan untuk mengekspos diskursus keagamaan Islam di kalangan generasi muda Muslim di Aceh melalui lanskap media sosial baru yang lebih kontemporer. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa WhatsApp telah terbukti menjadi media yang paling populer di antara banyak platform media sosial. WhatsApp telah memberikan manfaat sebagai alternatif ruang publik baru bagi masyarakat Muslim di Aceh dan telah berkembang menjadi bagian penting dalam perkembangan diskursus keislaman di era digital. Dalam hal ini, WhatsApp telah menciptakan ruang publik yang universal, tersedia bagi Muslim sebagai satu bentuk komunikasi dialogis di Aceh. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa umat Islam di Aceh bukan hanya pengguna WhatsApp saja. Namun, mereka juga menjadi penceramah digital yang dapat membangun narasi individu yang dipilih sebagai bagian dari perjuangan dakwah untuk meningkatkan ketakwaannya
