Abstract

The development of modernization has brought significant changes to people's lives and impacted cultural traditions. Many regional traditions have experienced shifts in implementation and even disappeared due to modernization. This study aims to examine the existence of the baronde tradition and the factors that have contributed to its persistence over time. In processing the data, this study employed a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving village officials, traditional leaders, and the local community as informants. The results indicate that the baronde tradition is still practiced by the community, although with some adjustments. This tradition embodies the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and an expression of gratitude for God's blessings in agricultural activities. The continuity of the baronde tradition is influenced by the community's cultural experiences, which recognize the benefits of tradition, and also by the cultural understanding passed down through formal and informal education.

Abstract

Public awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness is one of the essential elements in the implementation of civic responsibility at the local level. In Nagari Sicincin, Padang Pariaman Regency, environmental cleanliness remains a significant issue, as evidenced by the community’s habit of disposing of waste indiscriminately in public places such as markets, roadsides, and drainage channels. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to analyze the ongoing social phenomena. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving community members, community leaders, and village officials as informants. The results of the study indicate that the lack of public awareness is influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors include indifferent attitudes, laziness, and the perception that cleanliness is solely the responsibility of the government. Meanwhile, external factors include inadequate infrastructure, limited cleanliness programs, and weak socialization and law enforcement. The consequences of this situation are environmental degradation, increased health risks, and disruptions to community social activities. Therefore, collaborative efforts are needed through environmental education, the provision of adequate facilities, and the strengthening of civic responsibility values to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the cultural diversity in Indonesia, which requires an attitude of tolerance through context-appropriate multicultural education that encompasses all learners, particularly in schools with pupils from diverse backgrounds, including those with special educational needs. The aim of this study is to examine how cultural competence can be developed to foster an attitude of tolerance at Yari International School. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through interviews with Pancasila education teachers and school management, direct observation, and existing documents. Data analysis utilised an interactive model comprising several stages reduction, presentation, and drawing of conclusions, and was validated through triangulation of sources and methods. The research findings indicate that the enhancement of cultural competence is achieved by conducting context-appropriate learning, dividing students into culturally diverse groups, holding discussions and addressing issues of diversity, as well as organising extracurricular activities aimed at strengthening character and expressing art and culture. This practice helps to raise awareness of cultural identity, foster empathy towards others, improve intercultural communication skills, and promote non-discriminatory attitudes in everyday interactions. However, there are some challenges, such as initial prejudices and differences in communication styles among students. Nevertheless, with a good communication approach and sufficient support from teachers, these obstacles can be effectively overcome.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of traditional leaders in the 2024 Pesisir Selatan Regent Election and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of these roles in Nagari Kambang Timur. This study uses a qualitative approach. Research informants were determined through a purposive sampling technique involving niniak mamak, cadiak pintar, bundo kanduang, community leaders, and other relevant parties. The collected data were analyzed using a descriptive approach using the theories of Historical Institutionalism, Functional Institutionalism, Local Strongman, and legitimacy. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews and documentation studies. Data validity was tested through source triangulation, diligent observation, and member checking. The results of the study indicate that traditional leaders play a real role as 1) agents of political socialization, 2) mobilizers, and 3) facilitators in the implementation of the Pilkada. These roles are realized through the delivery of political information, strengthening public participation awareness, facilitating communication between candidates and the community, as well as efforts to maintain social stability and prevent conflict during the election stages. Supporting factors for the implementation of the role of traditional leaders include 1) strong social and cultural legitimacy, 2) closeness of traditional leaders to the community, 3) high levels of community trust, 4) extensive social networks of traditional leaders, and 5) government support. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include 1) political pragmatism, 2) lack of neutrality of traditional leaders, and 3) modernization and shifting values.

Abstract

The Mandi Kaek tradition is a cultural heritage of the Jambi Malay community that contains spiritual and social values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the tradition as well as the meanings of spirituality and social aspects contained within it for the people of Teluk Kuali Village, Tebo Regency. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that the Mandi Kaek tradition is still consistently practiced on the seventh day after birth, maintaining the core ritual structure, although there have been adaptations in location and variations in scale based on the family's economic conditions. The meaning of spirituality is reflected in the recitation of prayers and verses as an expression of gratitude, an effort for the baby's spiritual protection, and the inner experience of the parents. The social meaning is evident in the tradition's function as an official announcement of a new community member, a space for interaction and strengthening social ties, and the affirmation of the principle of reciprocity in community life. The Mandi Kaek tradition serves as a social glue that strengthens the cohesion and collective identity of the Jambi Malay community amidst changing times.

Abstract

The low student learning achievement in Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn), particularly the Pancasila Democracy System and Dynamics content, is the basis of this study. Traditional teaching methodologies and the lack of interactive components are contributing causes. The purpose of this study is to identify variations in student learning outcomes between the flipped classroom model group and the conventional method group. The experimental class and the control class were used as samples in this study, which used a quantitative design in the form of a quasi-experiment. Pretests and posttests were used for data collection, and paired and independent sample t-tests were used for data analysis. A significance value of 0.001 (<0.05) from the paired sample t-test indicates that learning success increased in both classes. In addition, the experimental class showed a greater increase in mean scores than the control class, indicating a significant difference between the two classes with a significance value of 0.091 (<0.10). Therefore, it can be concluded that the flipped classroom approach is more successful in improving student learning outcomes, which makes it a creative option for increasing student engagement and learning quality.

Abstract

Pancasila Education plays a strategic role as a vehicle for political education in shaping democratic attitudes and enhancing student participation within the school environment. This study aims to analyze how Pancasila Education contributes to fostering democratic attitudes and student participation in school organizations, specifically the Student Council (OSIS) at SMAN 1 Batusangkar. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and a preliminary survey of students active in the organization. The results of the study indicate that although students have understood the concept of democracy theoretically, its implementation in organizational activities remains suboptimal. This is evident from the dominance of the core executive members in decision-making, students’ participation that tends to be passive, and members’ involvement that is still limited to the implementation stage of activities. This situation indicates that democratic values have not yet been fully internalized in organizational practices. Therefore, more contextual learning innovations and evaluations that focus not only on cognitive aspects but also on affective and psychomotor aspects are needed so that Pancasila Education can function more effectively as political education.
