Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the blue economy in supporting the sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in coastal areas. Referring to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators, this study explores the role of the blue economy in improving social welfare, economic growth, and environmental conservation. This study uses a qualitative method with data collection through in-depth interviews with MSME actors in coastal areas. The data is processed using Nvivo.  The analysis shows that the implementation of the blue economy supports various aspects of the SDGs, such as poverty alleviation, job creation, environmental conservation, and improving food security. Business actors around coastal areas are well aware that the sustainability of their business depends on coastal natural conditions so that awareness to preserve the environment is very high. However, challenges related to capital, technology access, and policy support remain major obstacles. Recommendations include strengthening strategic partnerships, training in environmentally friendly technologies, and developing sustainable business models. The results of the study also show the need for closer collaboration between local governments and universities in providing coaching and mentoring. The results of this study provide important insights for policy making and development of blue economy-based MSMEs to support the sustainability of coastal areas.

Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of knowledge, motivation, and skills of health workers on the reporting of patient safety incidents at the West Kotawaringin Regency Health Center. This study uses an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 116 health workers who were randomly selected in six health centers in West Kotawaringin Regency. The independent variables in this study were knowledge, motivation, and skills, while the dependent variable was patient safety incident reporting. Data were collected using questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using binary logistic regression. The results showed that knowledge (p=0.001), motivation (p=0.002), and skills (p=0.000) significantly affected patient safety incident reporting. Simultaneously, these three variables contributed 56% to patient safety incident reporting. Good knowledge increases understanding of the importance of reporting, high motivation encourages reporting consistency, and adequate skills ensure reporting is done correctly and efficiently. The conclusion of this study confirms the importance of improving the knowledge, motivation, and skills of health workers in supporting patient safety incident reporting systems. As a recommendation, Puskesmas are advised to organize continuous training that includes aspects of knowledge, motivation, and skills, as well as providing incentives to increase the motivation of health workers. The implementation of this strategy is expected to improve the quality of incident reporting and improve patient safety.

Abstract

This community service program investigated the application snowball throwing as an instrument to augment English vocabulary acquisition among fifth-grade learners at SD Kristen 1 Dobo, situated in the Aru Islands. Teaching of English has some challenges, especially in primary school. The students do not speak English as their mother language; therefore, it is quite difficult for them to acquire English fluently particularly in rural areas. The program encompassed 29 participants and extended over three sessions, during which students engaged in cooperative gameplay that integrated written vocabulary, physical activity, and verbal expression. This approach facilitated students' comprehension and retention of vocabulary, provided them with lists of words, and instructed them on the accurate pronunciation of these terms through the use of engaging visuals and thematic content, while also modifying the classroom environment to enhance the learning process. The findings revealed a notable enhancement in vocabulary acquisition, heightened student motivation, and favorable teacher feedback. These results underscore the efficacy of embodied, game-based learning in fostering language development within an Indonesian primary educational context.

Abstract

Tambung village in the Sangihe Islands, Indonesia, has potential for beach tourism but is hindered by unstable internet connectivity and the lack of a digital promotion system, which hampers e-government implementation and tourism development. This community empowerment activity aims to optimize the internet network through the installation of a 4G GSM repeater and develop an e-government-based tourism promotion website. The implementation method includes problem identification using the USG (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth) scoring system, where the unstable internet network is the top priority (score 15). The solution implemented consisted of installing a repeater for 500-meter coverage and creating an integrated website that features tourist information, visual galleries, public service e-forms, and social media integration. Evaluation using a partner satisfaction questionnaire showed significant improvements in internet availability (+2.7), access to tourist information (+2.3), promotional effectiveness (+2.5), and public service quality (+2.0). Tourist visits increased by 40% in the three months post-implementation. This activity successfully built the foundation of digital services and effective tourism promotion, supporting digital village governance and sustainable tourism destination development. Integration with national platforms and mobile application development are recommended as the next steps.

Abstract

This community service program at Pondok Pesantren Al-Mutmainnah aims to enhance conventional financial literacy and inclusion among santri (Islamic boarding school students) to equip them with the skills to manage personal finances wisely and independently. The method involved interactive material delivery using multimedia presentations, infographics, and educational videos, followed by discussion and Q&A sessions to reinforce understanding. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires, showing a significant improvement with an average post-test score increase of 30 points compared to the pre-test. The discussion highlights that a participatory approach combined with visual media effectively improves santri’s knowledge, although challenges remain in understanding complex concepts such as investment and credit risk. The limited duration of the program also posed constraints on in-depth material coverage. Therefore, extended programs with longer duration and regular mentoring are necessary to ensure optimal internalization of financial attitudes and behaviors. Strengthening financial literacy is expected to contribute sustainably to the economic empowerment of the pesantren and the surrounding community.

Abstract

Early marriage has significant impacts on the reproductive health system, especially in adolescent females. The immaturity of reproductive organs and physical development increases the risk of adverse outcomes. Adolescents' reproductive organ immaturity and incomplete physical development increase risks of premature birth, infant disability, Low Birth Weight, infection, and anemia during pregnancy, which can potentially cause abortion, higher mortality, and hemorrhage risks due to underdeveloped uterine muscles. The purpose of this community service program aimed to educate junior high school students about the negative impact of early marriage on adolescent reproductive health The program employed socialization sessions, interactive discussions and evaluation. Evaluation was used to assess the level of knowledge through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Among 36 respondents, the pre-test results showed that the level of knowledge about the negative impact of early marriage on adolescent reproductive health was: 19 people (53%) in the poor category, 10 people (28%) in the moderate category, and 7 people (19%) in the good category. In the post-test results, 4 people (11%) were in the poor category, 3 people (8%) in the moderate category, and 29 people (81%) in the good category. The comparative results demonstrate an improvement in knowledge and understanding among junior high school students regarding the presented material. This activity was successfully conducted through effective collaboration.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the pedagogical and creative competencies of English teachers at SMA PGRI 1 Denpasar through a workshop titled “Designing English Textbook Covers Based on a Semiotic Analysis Approach.” The program was divided into three phases: pre-activity, implementation, and post-activity. Initial needs assessment identified teachers’ familiarity with semiotics and visual design. The workshop provided both theoretical insights into visual semiotics and practical training using Canva to create textbook covers that reflect semiotic principles. Post-activity evaluation included post-tests, feedback forms, and continued mentoring via WhatsApp groups. The results showed significant improvement in participants’ ability to integrate symbols and signs meaningfully into cover designs, enhancing their instructional media skills. This program underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between linguists and educators in fostering media literacy and creative teaching. It serves as a model for similar initiatives in other schools and contributes to academic discourse on the application of semiotics in educational contexts.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the management capacity of the Persyada Nurul Haromain Foundation Surabaya through a series of socialization activities, group discussions, and technical assistance. The main problems faced by the partner include the suboptimal organizational structure, administrative management, and lack of a standardized curriculum across its pesantren branches. The implementation method used a participatory approach by involving the foundation’s board, Ahlu Syuro, and branch leaders. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and pre- and post-socialization questionnaires. The results show a significant increase in participants’ understanding of key elements in pesantren management, task distribution, and the importance of preparing a Pesantren Revenue and Expenditure Budget Plan (RAPBP). Interactive group discussions produced a draft of a clearer organizational structure and new administrative SOPs that are more transparent and accountable. This program is expected to become an initial model for the implementation of Pesantren-Based Management (MBPP) that is adaptive, professional, and firmly upholds the value of lillahi ta’ala. Further assistance and implementation research are recommended to ensure the sustainability of pesantren governance improvements in the future.
