Abstract

Hipertensi dan hiperkolesterolemia merupakan penyakit dengan prevalensi tinggi di Indonesia.  Kedua penyakit ini dilaporkan memberikan dampak negatif bagi kehidupan penderitanya. Kesadaran akan pola hidup yang kurang baik menjadi salah satu faktor yang menyebabkan angka kejadian hipertensi dan hiperkolesterolemia  yang tinggi. Oleh karena itu, pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat mengenai upaya preventif terhadap hipertensi dan hiperkolesterolemia melalui penyuluhan farmasi serta penerapan gaya hidup sehat dengan memanfaatkan empon-empon di Kelurahan Makroman, Samarinda. Metode pengabdian masyarakat dilaksanakan melalui serangkaian kegiatan, termasuk penyuluhan farmasi dan workshop pembuatan empon-empon. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat keberhasilan kegiatan adalah menggunakan kuesioner yang diberikan kepada 41 peserta dari Kelurahan Makroman, Samarinda, Kalimantan Timur. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa terjadinya peningkatan dalam pengetahuan secara signifikan (p > 0.001) masyarakat tentang cara sederhana mencegah hipertensi dan hiperkolesterolemia. Selain itu, masyarakat telah memiliki keterampilan dalam pembuatan empon-empon sebagai alternatif pengobatan tradisional dengan cara yang benar. Kata Kunci: Empon-empon, Hiperkolesterolemia, Hipertensi, Penyuluhan. Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are diseases with a high prevalence in Indonesia, causing negative impacts on the lives of those affected. Lack of awareness regarding unhealthy lifestyles is identified as one of the factors contributing to the high incidence of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, this community service initiative aims to enhance public awareness of preventive measures against hypertension and hypercholesterolemia through pharmaceutical education and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, utilizing traditional herbal remedies (empon-empon) in Kelurahan Makroman, Samarinda. The community service methodology encompasses a series of activities, including pharmaceutical education and empon-empon making workshops. The instrument used to measure the success of these activities involves a questionnaire distributed to 41 participants from Kelurahan Makroman, Samarinda, East Kalimantan. The results of the initiative indicate a significant improvement ( p > 0.001) in the community's knowledge regarding simple ways to prevent hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. Furthermore, the community has acquired skills in the proper preparation of empon-empon as a traditional alternative treatment.

Abstract

 Chayote is a vines type of plant, and usually people known it as a healthy food and its fruit can be cooked as a vegetable soup. Research aim was to find out the activity from rind and fruit flesh extract of chayote (Sechium edule Sw.) as an antioxidant and find out IC50 from rind and fruit flesh extract of chayote S. edule Sw. After peel the rind of chayote fruit, then chayote rind extracted with soxhletation method and chayote fruit flesh with maceration method. Antioxidant activity evaluated by using DPPH method with spectrophotometry, and IC50 count using regresi linier analysis. This research used methanol extract of chayote rind and methanol extract of chayote fruit flesh. Research results showed that chayote rind extract and chayote fruit flesh have some activity as an antioxidant. IC50 for each sample is 422,38 ppm for methanol extract of chayote rind and 1322,62 ppm for methanol extract of chayote fruit flesh.

Abstract

One of the plants used by the people of East Kalimantan, especially the people of West Kutai, as a medicinal plant is Kitolod (Hippobroma longiflora L.). The plant parts used are the leaves and flowers. The secondary metabolites contained in Kitolod leaves are alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids and polyphenols. The aim of this research is to identify secondary metabolite groups and test the cytotoxicity of Kitolod leaf extracts and fractions. Secondary metabolites are identified qualitatively using various chemical reagents and metabolites characterized by the presence or absence of color changes or the presence of sediment or foam. Cytotoxicity testing was carried out using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The data research was analyzed using the Reed and Muench method to determine the Lethality Concentration 50% value. The results of research on the metabolite content of ethanol extract, fractions: n-hexane, ethyl acetate and n-butanol contain alkaloid, flavonoids and phenolic/polyphenols compounds. The bioactivity test results for the ethanol extract had an LC50 value of 592.93 ppm, the n-hexane fractions of 582.77 ppm, the ethyl acetate fraction of 531.37 ppm, and the n-butanol fraction of 119.48 ppm. These results indicate that the n-butanol fraction of Kitolod leaves has stronger cytotoxic activity than other extracts. .

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a significant global health challenge. Conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension contribute to more than 70% of deaths worldwide. This community service activity aims to provide free health screenings to the community, particularly to the residents of Desa Bangun Rejo, with the goal of early detection of NCDs. The community service activities involved health screenings followed by direct education to the participants. The results showed that 40 participants attended and gained knowledge about their current health conditions, including blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and uric acid levels. The findings from the health screenings will serve as a reference for participants to understand the importance of regular health check-ups in mitigating future risks Penyakit tidak menular (PTM) menjadi salah satu tantangan kesehatan global yang signifikan. termasuk penyakit jantung, diabetes, dan hipertensi menyumbang lebih dari 70% kematian di seluruh dunia. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemeriksaan Kesehatan gratis kepada masyarakat khususnya masyarakat Desa Bangun Rejo yang bertujuan untuk deteksi dini PTM. Metode kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan berupa pemeriksaan Kesehatan dan dilanjutkan pemberian edukasi langsung kepada peserta. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menunjukkan peserta yang hadir sebanyak 40 orang mengetahui tentang kondisi saat ini berupa tekanan darah, kadar glukosa darah, dan asam urat. Hasil pemeriksaan yang didapatkan dijadikan sebagai rujukan untuk peserta lebih memahami pentingnya melakukan pemeriksaan kesehatan secara rutin guna menanggulangi resiko yang lebih besar untuk kedepannya

Abstract

The numerous applications of nanochitosan in a variety of sectors, including medicine, food, and agriculture, attract researchers to work toward the development of environmentally favorable, safe, and efficient synthesis methods. Currently, a biological approach is being developed to synthesize nanochitosan to address the limitations of conventional methods. The synthesis of biogenic pathways employs biological entities, including plant extracts and microorganisms, as nanoparticle-forming agents. The use of extracts is more desirable due to the simple working procedure, the absence of hazardous chemicals, the economic benefits, and the use of basic equipment. This article highlights the role of biomolecules in plant extracts, including polyphenols, terpenoids, citric acid, alkaloids, and polysaccharides, in the synthesis of nanochitosan. Nanoparticle preparation protocols and characterization using zeta potential analysis techniques, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-visible spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) are briefly described. The potential applications of green nanochitosan are also discussed, considering the results of biological activity testing and the potential mechanisms associated with these activities. According to the results of numerous studies highlighted in this review, nanochitosan synthesis utilizing plant extracts appears to be a promising alternative approach to conventional methods.

Abstract

Hyperglycemia is a condition where blood sugar increases significantly which can lead to diabetes mellitus. Sambung Nyawa (Gynura Procumbens) leaves are a plant that is empirically believed to reduce hyperglycemia and has been scientifically proven based on several studies, however there has been no research that provides information about sembung nyawa leaves in infusion form. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites in the infusion of the leaves of Gynura Procumbens and its antihyperglycemia activity in male males. This study consisted of phytochemical and antihyperglycemia screening using a tolerance method induced by glucose monohydrate at a dose of 2g/kgBW. The test group consisted of a negative control group (Na CMC 1%), a positif group (Glibenclamide), and 3 groups of sambung nyawa leaf infusion (5%, 10%, 15%). The results of the research showed that the infusion of sembung nyawa leaves contained secondary metabolites, namely tannins, phenolics, flavonoids and saponins. The effect of reducing blood sugar levels in test animals showed a significant reduction (0.00<0.05) at a 10% concentration infusion compared to the negative control and not significant to the positive control. The conclusion shows that the infusion of sambung nyawa leaves has an antihyperglycemic effect. Keywords:          Antihyperglycemic, Sambung Nyawa Leaves, Glucose Monohydrate   Abstrak Hiperglikemia merupakan kondisi peningkatan gula darah yang cukup signifikan yang akan berubah menjadi kondisi diabetes mellitus. Daun sambung nyawa (Gynura Procumbens) merupakan tumbuhan yang dipercaya secara empiris menurunkan hiperglikemia dan terbukti secara ilmiah berdasarkan beberapa penelitian dalam bentuk ekstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui kandungan metabolit sekunder pada infusa daun sambung nyawa dan aktivitas antihiperglikemia pada mencit jantan. Penelitian ini terdiri dari skrining fitokimia dan antihiperglikemia menggunakan metode toleransi yang dinduksi glukosa monohidrat dengan dosis 2g/kgBB. Kelompok uji terdiri dari kelompok kontrol negatif (Na CMC 1%), positif (Glibenklamid), dan 3 kelompok infusa daun sembung nyawa (5%, 10%, 15%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan infusa daun sambung nyawa mengandung metabolit sekunder yaitu tanin, fenolik, flavonoid dan saponin. Efek penurunan kadar gula darah pada hewan uji menunjukkan penurunan yang signifikan (0,00<0,05) pada infusa konsentrasi 10% dibandingkan dengan kontrol negatif dan tidak signifikan terhadap kontrol positif. Kesimpulan menunjukkan bahwa infusa daun sambung nyawa mempunyai efek antihiperglikemia. Kata Kunci:         Antihiperglikemia, Daun Sambung Nyawa, Glukosa Monohidrat

Abstract

Kersen (Muntingia calabura Linn.) is a plant with a large population in Indonesia. Thus, the abundance of this number can be used as a source of raw materials for medicine. Kersen has many benefits, especially in the leaves as an antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the extract yield, compound groups, and antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus. Antibacterial activity was measured using the well method and TLC Bioautography. The results showed an extract yield of 19.77%. The TLC profile identified flavonoid, alkaloid, tannin, and steroid compound groups. Kersen leaf extract showed antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus with moderate to strong antibacterial power at concentrations of 40%, 50%, and 60%. The groups of compounds suspected of playing a role in antibacterial activity are flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and steroids. This study shows that kersen leaf extract has the potential as an antibacterial agent against Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Pharmaceutical education is one of the preventive efforts to enhance community understanding of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and Gout, whose prevalence continues to rise in society. Mangkupalas Village, Samarinda Seberang, was selected as the location for community service based on the high risk of DM and Gout influenced by dietary patterns, lifestyle, and a lack of health education. The service method included delivering preventive material on DM and Gout by resource persons, followed by a discussion session. Questionnaires were distributed before and after the educational activities. The results showed an average pre-test score of 48.8 and an average post-test score of 60.0, indicating an increase in community knowledge after receiving pharmaceutical education. Additionally, residents showed enthusiasm for implementing healthy lifestyle changes. In conclusion, pharmaceutical education is effective in raising awareness and knowledge about DM and Gout among the community. This community service activity can serve as a continuous effort to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, particularly among the residents of Mangkupalas Village, Samarinda.

Abstract

Indonesian society has a long-standing practice of utilizing various types of drugs for the treatment of diseases, the management of health conditions, and as dietary supplements. However, there is a lack of awareness regarding proper utilization and disposal of these substances. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2024, there was an 8% increase in drug abuse cases compared to the previous year. DAGUSILABU: DApatkan, GUnakan, SImpan, piLAh, dan BUang (Obtain, Use, Store, Sort, and Dispose) is an initiative aimed at enhancing public comprehension of optimal medication management practices. The objective of this initiative is to impart knowledge and cultivate comprehension among the general public regarding the significance of proper medication acquisition, utilization, storage, sorting, and disposal practices to students enrolled in Islamic boarding schools, high school students, and Nurul Islam University students. pharmaceutical education. The results demonstrated a 33% increase in knowledge about DAGUSILABU after the presentation of the material, from 64% to 97%, which can be categorized as good.

Abstract

A workshop on making gummy candy based on stingless bee honey was held in Bangun Rejo Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, as an effort to empower the community through innovation in locally processed food products. The aim of this activity was to improve the skills of MSME actors and village residents in producing stingless honey gummy candy, and to elevate the added value of local honey. The methods used included a short theoretical session about the composition of stingless bee honey and the technical process of gummy candy production, a live demonstration, group practice among participants, as well as evaluation via pre-test and post-test on understanding and skills. The workshop was attended by 50 participants from various MSMEs and community groups. Results showed that after training there was an increase in participant understanding by approximately 75% compared to before the training. Furthermore, participants succeeded in making gummy candy with a chewy texture, the natural sweetness of stingless bee honey, and a distinctive aroma that was well accepted in organoleptic tests. This workshop made a tangible contribution to local product diversification, increasing production capacity, and the potential enhancement of village income through signature products based on stingless bee.
